Title: What food am I REALLY craving?
Post by: Lady Grey on July 08, 2015, 04:34:11 PM
Okay, so about a year ago, I read a really interesting diagram thing about how when your crave certain foods, your body is not actually craving the food, but the nutrients, so there's apparently healthy alternatives to the foods you think you want that will also satisfy you.
I can't find this anywhere now! And I'm really craving sweet things and it's really not like me. I've always been a savoury person, it's weird :O

Any nutrition-y people know anything about this? Or go through weird sweet things craving phases?

I've heard the same thing a long time ago.

I never actually took the time to check if that's even remotely true. :P

After some reading...

No link has been proven between cravings and nutrient deficiencies.

It's probably more up to psychological factors like stress and addiction.
Sugar, carbohydrates and fat (cue: snacks and chocolate contain all three) create sort of an addiction, since they modulate the serotonin (happiness hormone) levels in brain.

Looking at food is also a part of that. Looking at food increases the levels leptin (the hunger hormone).

In the end, it's more about your brain messing with you.   :P

My brain is messing with me too much for my liking :P

I'm editing the title of this thread - I didn't realise auto correct had turned 'food' into 'good' :P
