rise and fall civilizations at war is AWESOME!!!! Its like... GODLIKE (i got it) Rise and fall is so awesome you don't need to restrain yourself make an army go out pwn and retreat to regain your army within minutes... (i played earlier today and i finally found out that some units don't take population caps so guess what i did? I made such a huge army that it covered half my base and that is one huge base! Then my enemies just brought archers and cattas and put them in front of my gate as i only used melee soldiers they were all killed before they got out... Sometimes tight places are not good, however that depends on what kinda tight place it is  :ball:  :knight:  :ball: Anyways you guys gotta try it, its beyond comparison it is like warcraft 3 on crack AND knocked up :ninja:

I'm glad that you find it interesting... You may also like this one :

0 A.D. (pre-alpha version) (http://www.moddb.com/games/0-ad/news/0-ad-debuts-pre-alpha-version) It's a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of six ancient Western civilizations, from Iberia to Persia, each depicted at their peak of economic growth and military prowess.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks great...

anyone else noticed that team fortress 2 became free to play (freemium) today?
Title: Re: Free Games
Post by: debux on June 25, 2011, 02:57:49 AM
Pretty much :D . Although I did feel cheated to think I got it 6 months ago (even if it was a quarter of it's original price, but hey, who would have gotten TF2 knowing that it was bound to come out F2P?)

I hope a few of my buddies start playing... for me it has gotten kinda boring to be the only one that can laugh about the funny things that can happen, as only I understand how the game works, usually my friends stared at me for a while when I tried to explain them my funny happenings in TF2 (I don't even try anymore)

Talking of teams, should we do an Exilian Games again at some point? Might be fun to do sometime soon when people aren't too busy over summer...
Title: Re: Free Games
Post by: hazzacanary on June 25, 2011, 05:22:12 PM
definitely - start a poll to select what games we'll actually be playing. How many should we include?

There's always hope :P I think we should all use some kind of IM system, and I hate having to log on to MSN. Besides, I only have 3 fellow Exilianers on my list

IIRC, most people play between RTW, Warhammer and M&B. Feel free to expand the list

Survival Crisis Z (http://www.ska-studios.com/2007/09/07/just-a-friendly-reminder/)

Old game, but a classic. Action/rpg. Run around killing zombies, scavaging for supplies, and getting better weapons. But wait, there's more! There are three factions of survivors in the game - Rebels, Cops (or Swat or whatever), and Neutral. You can team up with any of them. Each faction has several bases around the city where you can get missions or buy/sell supplies. You can also attempt to take over leadership of a friendly base by fighting off a huge swarm of zombies or you can attempt a hostile takeover of an enemy base by fighting off a swarm of the enemy faction (much harder since they have guns). All three of the factions will fight the zombies and can turn into zombies if they take too much damage. Occasionally npcs will join you when you enter a friendly base (you don't get a choice, they just join you). They will follow you around and fight zombies, but you have to keep them healed or they will turn into zombies. If you can handle the outdated graphics, this game is a lot of fun.

And it's cool, but unfortunately I don't have enough free time to play it.

Almost forgot. I've tried World of Battles and it seems like an OK-ish game for now...

BTW. Welcome back debux ;D

Thanks mate :D Nice to see familiar faces again.

I found AirMech (https://www.carbongames.com/) a while ago... it's almost like SupCom, but free and with a few more RPG elements (it's a lot more focused on your character). I personally found it too attention-demanding, at least for me: I couldn't concentrate on giving orders to my units (on my opinion, the system is very clunky, I couldn't figure out how to give them to more than one unit) and controlling my mech at the same time, and it was too fast for me to attempt to do both a the same time (I rage quitted after one minute of real gameplay). However, other people might like it, the idea is quite original, and it looks and feels good. And besides, who doesn't like freeware? :P

Yes you can play solo, I'm doing that at the moment, but I'm getting my ass handed to me by the first boss. Minions I can kill by the hundred though.

I tried WarFrame at a friends request. It's fun, but I don't like the setting really, and I sucked at it (I can't really manage how easy it is to go from melee to shooter mechanics :P ). Playing alone doesn't seem to be as fun as it should be with friends.

I'd like to contribute of a demo of a game that is still in development (apparently), Superhot (http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/09/10/super-hot/). Basically, your movement has almost absolute command over time. It shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes to complete the game, so I really suggest you to try it out. Besides, I found the small hints of dark humour to be great (if you don't agree with me after trying, you've been warned of the possible nature of my jokes)

EDIT: yay, I still remember some basic BBCodes!

Soulbound

http://www.moddb.com/games/soulbound

Quote
Description of Soulbound

Soulbound is an action-adventure game in which you play as the Beastmaster, an intrepid explorer who dares to venture where others do not. While you have seen much of the world, you are not the greatest of warriors. By taming monsters you encounter on your travels, you can use their power and skills against their former allies.

The game takes place in the abandoned city of Caladan, the greatest of ancient states. What was once a city filled with light has now turned into a dark abyss. Thread carefully, for your next step could be your last!

Key Features

Put a team of the right monsters around you to survive
There are different kinds of crawling through the dark corridors of Caladan. Each kind has its own strengths and weaknesses. You have to choose your team carefully if you want to survive.

Use the skills of your monsters to hide your own weakness
In comparison to your enemies you are very weak. Everything depends on how you control your monster and how you use their personal qualities in thrilling fight scenes. Each kind of monster has its own special attack which you can use in times of need to prevent the enemies from taking your life.

Only a year late in replying but hey: I've actually taken a break from it but I'm willing to go back to it if you want to ad me on steam: CaptainBaseballBatBoy (It's an obscurity from Max Payne).

Now, what did I come here to actually post? EA giving away free games with Origin service? Nope. Though that is a thing it's certainly not new. Origin access is but it's a paid service.

Can't remember....But hey here's something...

You can actually loan people your steam library, don't know how long you've been able to do this but I've been giving access to my considerable library to friends and family, though with 5 accounts able to access my library at any one time I have to keep switching who's on the rota ;)

Good guy Gabe.

armadillo that was it: Starcraft 2 arcade and multiplayer is free. My Battlenet is Clockwork (#2338).

Ooh, looks nice! What's going on I have no idea for the picture, but I'm excited to find out :P

I don't know whether I'll be interested in the game, but your function names definitely appeal to my sense of humour: QuackAtTime, SquawkNextDelay, and the wonderful IsDespawned :) Much more fun than the stuff I have to deal with at work!

We should have a best function names competition, I think I may have some entries somewhere...

Haha yea, sometimes when I am in a bad mood I make amusing or passive aggressive function/variable names to destress. I think once I named a function that returns the next free element in a particle system object pool as: "CanIhasAsplosionz?"

You appear to be a Nazgul in an idyllic wasteland commanding tiny zombies to harvest pumpkins?

Haha interesting interpretation ;) The filename (free from OpenGameArt.org) for the main char is "Grue" so I guess that's what it actually is. And those are supposed to be fruits and not pumpkins but now I can't unsee pumpkins, damn you ;p What made you think it is a "wasteland" tho?

(But I like the dichotomy of "idyllic wasteland" hmm!)

Pumpkins are more or less fruit anyway! As to why it's a wasteland, partly the fact that it seems to be uncultivated/uninhabited and have mini zombie things roaming around it, I guess? Also possibly the fact that I've been sleep deprived all week and am not selecting words accurately any more. :P

Oh, I wasn't criticizing your word choice at all, just genuinely curious. The whole reason I am making these experimental titles is to learn how players perceive my ideas and how to communicate my goals better :) So it's good to hear your impressions and rationale behind it!

I've been playing Anno online recently.

It's very addictive and the economy runs while you're offline.
And there are tons of different features.

I can recommend it.

And here's a review:

I'm beginning Beta testing this little thingy, so if anyone is interested shoot me a PM :) It's a small thing that takes like 15-20mins, so not a big investment. Lemme know!

I've DLed a couple more games onto my tablet recently - I tend to play free android games in a way that I wouldn't often go for free stuff on PC (though most games I play on PC are also free, just I'm playing things in beta stages).

(Also this should prob be unpinned as the OP list thing is like seven years out of date?).

I agree.
This thread had more meaning back when free games weren't so common. ;)

Yes, indeed! It's such a different world now to where we were in '08.

I'm still modding RTW though :P

The absolutely phenomenal sci-fi epic Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty is free to play.

As RTS go, this one is legendary in it's vast ESports presence and it's engaging, slightly campy, low budget high production sci-fi story about a Texan beefcake looking to cure his love of an alien parasite. Without a doubt this tragic love story is one of the all time most iconic stories in gaming history and with good reason, fantastic performances from all actors and facial modelling and animation make even minority of gamers who loathe the gameplay slog through it to watch the epic unfold.

I can't recommend this enough, it's completely free so there's nothing to lose. If for some reason you hate love, stories, acting and camp tragedy then at the very least you now own the best RTS of the last 10 years.

Just started playing SC2 now its free. Gotta say, really good solid game and cant complain to completely free multiplayer acesss! Played first online game few days ago, and must say though it has a learning curb its hella fun.

I rarely play it online, only after I watch the pros, really :P

If you fancy a SC2 online game but with a lot of the macro taken out Totalbiscuit hired a dev team to make a multiplayer mod called Axiom which is all the blasting but with automated resource gathering and C&C style queued production.
