What do YOU want to see in a sci-fi skirmish game and world of alien bizarreness? Chuck out suggestions and ideas here and the best ones may well find their way out among the stars.  :)
The duke, the wanderer, the philosopher, the mariner, the warrior, the strategist, the storyteller, the wizard, the wayfarer...

I think we need to make sure we don't focus too much on one issue. Most of the ones I've played either push you towards military or economic strategies, I like there to be a good bit of choice. Maybe some differences between species would be good as well?

This is possibly a little far-fetched, but random encounters could be fun, something to change the dynamic a little bit to keep players on their toes.

There will be a strategic mix; each faction will have varying income bonuses and objectives to push them towards certain playstyles. As an overview;

- Homeworlders will focus on mining and combat with other players
- Lexihad will focus on searching and subjugating planets
- Verwynn will focus on subjugation primarily but also trade and mining secondarily.
- Free League will focus on planet alignment and control of systems
- Hanstellartic League will be quite a pure trading faction with secondary science goals
- The Tangalak will be primarily science focussed with trade and mining as secondary.
- Adventurers will get a wide range of options on this front

Random encounters I'm thinking about, they will appear in some form I expect.  :)
