Human Sci-Fi Weapons
« on: February 21, 2016, 12:58:18 AM »
When working on human miniatures the one thing that really slows down progress, mentally speaking, is the knowledge that to arm them I'm going to need to make some weapons from scratch. It's one of the reasons I have so few single character models like the Sororitas Arcanum priests - I get the general shape in place, realise I'm going to need a weapon for them, and then my motivation just evaporates. Seriously! I've got at least three on corks just waiting for further progress!

So to remedy that I've put together a sprue containing these things:

Today I've got the first cast of them:

With any luck I'll be able to do a casting run of them with some filler in order to get a darker colour that I can photograph, then it's off to the proverbial races.

Also this means I can finally get some heavy weapons into the hands of my faithful sisters, and some weapon choices for the canoness.

I like the power axe :)

Also, I know everyone loves chainsaw-swords, but why does nobody use alligator saw swords? Admittedly it trips off the tongue less well, but much safer for the wielder and still pretty awesome.

I was just imagining the same principle as a chainsaw sword but with an alligator saw setup - that is, instead of a chain-blade that rotates around continually, a pair of more regular saw blades that move rapidly back and forward along the edge of the blade. Alligator saws are slightly less efficient than a good chainsaw, and you couldn't stab with one as effectively, but the tradeoff is a good deal more safety for the wielder - if a chainsaw's blade snaps it can whip back and maim or even occasionally kill the user, a problem eliminated with an alligator saw.

I wonder whether that's more or less effective in practice..?

Well, I can vouch that the alligator is a tad slower but much safer when it comes to cutting wood. I assume people/aliens probably abide by similar principles...

I don't think enemies generally hang around to be (safely) chopped up!

That's true whatever kind of blade you're using to try and cut them up though!

So whatever is the nastiest, fastest is the best bet then  ;D

Anyway here's some cast with filler to make them a little easier to see:

They're not on the site yet. Soon.
