Persia has the largest empire in history. The small, but free, city-states of Greece struggle to stay unified as they laugh in the face of annihilation. The Dahae, Scythians, Gerrheans, Celts, Illyrians, and even the Indians of the distant jungles plot to one day rule their own empires. How will history play out? You decide.

This mod is roughly based on the timeframe of the Greco-Persian wars; displaying Persia at her might, while the greek cities are seperated and weary of one-another, plus a few 'outer' factions, like Indian tribes and the Gerrhean Kingdom, to poke at Persia from all sides. This isn't aiming for total historical accuracy; with elements that were put together to make for more interesting gameplay. The Greek factions will have relatively small troop rosters at the start of the game, but as they conquer more settlements and explore new areas they will acquire the capability to recruit more units. A new campaign map, cut from the Mundus Magnus map, covers from Greece to the brooding jungles of India and from Egypt to the steppe of Scythia. The size of the map has been increased to the maximum to allow ample room in Greece for cities and to provide a more unique gaming experience.

Background Info:

Persian Invasion is a major mod that seeks to present the atmosphere of the Greco-Persian Wars for players of Rome - Total War. It began back in November of 2007 when its creator, comrade_general, decided to make a mod based on this era of history. The first instance of the mod came from the Alexander expansion, and involved simply changing several of the factions into Greek cultured and giving them all basic Greek units, while using the existing Persia and India factions from Alexander. The first BETA on the Alexander expansion was released shortly after, which only contained the option for custom battles.

Progress was slow, and eventually comrade_general enlisted the help of Private Clark and his modelling capablitites. Slowly factions and units were added, new faction banners and icons were made, and a very large (but empty) map was produced for the mod by Spurius. Progress still came slowly as other factors in the real world led to delays and loss of interest, until the mod was abandoned.

Once these situations passed the mod was again taken up by comrade_general in a complete revamp of its former self. A clean slate was started back on the Rome - Total War system where bits and pieces of the old mod were added to form a new and neat platform. The map was completed through much sweat and toil by comrade_general, and some new unit variations were created by Private Clark, who then left the mod for other pursuits.

Progress still came slowly, but at the end of April 2009 a BETA of the mod was released. This BETA state became its final form known to the public.

As of February 18, 2010 Persian Invasion has accumulated over 2,700 downloads and 36,000 visits to its ModDB page.
