Has anyone ever tried it ?
This is what I've had in mind : you take a model from a template and press it into clay (both sides). That's how you get a mold for your models. Then you melt those plastic edges (http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/2411/postolje5kk.jpg) from template and pour the plastics into your clay mold... The last part would be scraping off the edges and fixing the imperfections (if there are any)... And in the end you would get a nicely shaped copy...

It can be done, it's easier with resin; I'll find a tutorial sometime.
Clay tends to give really bad flash (excess plastic that needs trimming) compared to foam moulds and resin (which are more expensive, though).
Also note that copying any commerically produced model is illegal under UK law so probably under Croat law too.

Even for personal use?

I think so, yea. Otherwise everyone would just make most of their own models anyway...

Then I'll have to make my own squad leader... Wish me luck !

Modelling models out of Green Stuff (which is a putty that can be used to make models) is quite good fun, thought ry adding bits to current models first ( I stil can't scratch-sculpt models well, but then again I have no dexterity at ALL)

I've found this... It's quite interesting and easy... http://www.warhammer-empire.com/workshop/metal.php (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/workshop/metal.php)

Looks interesting... not sure how easy it'd be to melt the metal though.

It's probably some kind of special alloy...
EDIT :
3) Metal with low melting-point. There are a number of different alloys. Some recommend a 50/50 mix of solder (40% tin) and Rose alloy. I prefer a special alloy used by dentists. It has several advantages: it is harder then alloy GW uses, has a very low melting point (90

I'm sculpting a pony atm. :D
-
I'd really like to see it when it's finished ...

I'll post pics, dw. The pony is just about done, but its (halfling) raider is still WIP.

When I finally buy some putty, I'll try to sculpt alternative helmets and horns for my Khorne warriors...
