Title: Workshop: Unit Cards
Post by: ahowl11 on January 10, 2014, 07:41:18 PM
Started UI's today. Starting to get the hang of it :)

Nice unit cards too. I applauded.

Three Units down, many many more to go!

Triarii

Nice work - the variant shield designs are a neat touch!  :)
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: ahowl11 on January 12, 2014, 09:16:08 PM
Just a reminder, I am only responsible for the UI's. :)
The Roman units were made by Ferres and Godzilla from twc

Ah, fair enough. Still nice shots :)
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: ahowl11 on January 13, 2014, 03:54:49 AM
So at the end of this I will have 436 Unit cards made..... Could really use a hand lol
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: Jubal on January 13, 2014, 03:01:42 PM
I know the feeling :/ Coursework still really dominating my life sadly (and I make UI cards mostly via ingame screenshots anyway, which is less neat/standardised than the ones you're doing).
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: comrade_general on January 13, 2014, 09:30:12 PM
Getting a good start though. :)

Just one question: how come there weren't UI's already made for these textures?
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: ahowl11 on January 13, 2014, 11:40:04 PM
There are some but some of the animations are old  and some of the quality is not that great.
If I didn't care about how things looked so much, I'd have 75% of the UI's in and would only have to make a few to finish things up.

Then again, I hate doing these.. I'll think about it and maybe we will have a release sooner than later haha
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: ahowl11 on January 14, 2014, 03:47:45 AM
Okay I have made a decision.

I will use previously made UI's where I can. A lot of stuff will be changing anyways so it would be a waste of time and effort making UI's for every unit
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: Bercor on January 19, 2014, 09:22:59 PM
So here is a preview of the first three unit cards I ever did in my life:

(https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160x210q90/547/9e04.jpg)(https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160x210q90/855/v75f.jpg)(https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160x210q90/62/y31h.jpg)

There's tiny differences in the position because I, stupidly, went back and forth to render those small pics so I had to reposition by eye (it will not happen again).

Don't be to harsh now.
Title: Re: Visuals

Nice!

Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: Jubal on January 20, 2014, 12:30:51 AM
Yeah, those are very much up to scratch.

Always remember with these things that in general you are the person most likely to see things you get wrong; average users are unlikely to notice or care.

I tried to add variation between different units.

The Britons hair is so awesome that they deserve they're own unit cards.
Title: Re: Visuals

Last one before going to bed:

This ones were actually kind of tricky because there's some missing parts in the model, namely under the arms, so I had to use an angle that covered that zone.
Title: Re: Visuals
Post by: Bercor on January 20, 2014, 02:38:30 PM
It seems I have been using vanilla textures for the unit cards and I'll have to redo them. Oh well, learning is failing.

Looks like you are getting the hang of it! The Peasant units should be easiest
When you are done with all the Barbarians, pack them, upload them and post the download link here for me, so I can put them in game :)

It could be my browser

EDIT: I believe it's imageshack that has the issues. I can't view my pics on my account there.

EDIT#2: Yup, all gone. And I guess, they are going to start charging accounts now too. I just signed up for photobucket.

Bercor, could you save all the pics on here and reupload them via photobucket?

Nice Falxmen!

These Unit Cards are not only beneficial to RTR. 90% of these textures were made by webbird. However, he never bothered to make UI's for them!
His mod Europa 270 BC could definitely use these as well. So I think once Bercor is finished with the Unit Cards that we can supply him with these to complete his units :)

I was wrong, I can find the seleucid peltast texture, but it suffers from the same problem as the levy pikemen, the javelin it's not skinned:

Okay open up the Seleucid Peltast texture.. Then look around and you'll see the texture for the javelin. Use a selector tool and select the entire javelin. Then cut it.

Then open up the Greek Peltast texture and do the same thing, but copy the javelin texture and then paste it in the empty space where the javelin texture is.

If it doesn't work then make the Unit card anyways, it's no big deal and can be fixed later

Because in vanilla RTW there are four Roman factions. Three families controlled by one senate. It's ahistorical, but the creators put them in to help simulate the civil wars. When your ifrst purchase the vanilla game, you will only be allowed to play as one of the three families. The Senate will give you missions to carry out with rewards or punishments. There are senate offices and you are allied to the other romans and allowed to see what they do. Pretty nifty but not very realistic.

It tends to overpower Rome a lot in campaign, if their insanely good troops didn't do it enough already.

Rome should be significantly nerfed. Maybe only have one Roman faction? Perhaps nerf Roman soldiers as well? Romans weren't superhuman killing machines. They were disciplined and they could throw more bodies at the enemy.

There will be one Roman faction and they won't have access to the Urbans or Praetorians and all the crazy siege weapons and cavalry.

We should make a list of every faction's historical strenghts and weaknesses and think of a way of show them in the game.

Feel free to start the thread Bercor :)

So you just need to do the rest of the Romans and then the Mercenaries right? Can they be done by the weekend?

Yeah, I'm finishing the roman infantry as we speak. I've got an oral exam at uni this friday, that's what's making me work slower (a man got'ta study), but I reckon I'll be finished by the weekend.
