Calling web devs, web designers, and those who love to read:
We need YOU to help on a new and exciting project!
The long story short is, I'm setting up a new Community Interest Company, aimed at improving adult literacy. I have the epic idea, but to help I need a dedicated team of volunteers with a passion for development and reading to help me kick-start things. Based in England is preferable, since we will hold meetings, but you can always Skype in. There are even fun bonuses available, such as free books and merch!
So, yeah. Rally the troops and all that!
-
I volunteer as tribute!
-
Jubal:
Excellent, excellent *rubs hands together*
Email me your skillset and I'll see how I can best put you to work ;D
-
What does it involve?
-
I was wondering the same thing. I have a lot on my plate as it is but would like to help too, if I can, but without clearer details it's tricky!
-
I guess you're both asking about the website development element?
The project itself is to do with gamification of the reading process - read more, level-up, unlock rewards, etc etc etc. Unless anyone here knows a lot about gamification I was planning to get more local help for that element (I'm just thinking it'll be easier to talk to people in person) - the 'game' is pretty much planned out anyway.
The design/development side comes into how we utilise data structures and the web in order to best deliver the content of the 'game'.
And if you just love reading, there's always alpha- and beta-testing spaces!

Boop.

Yep :) .

Is that plan available for people to see somewhere? I'd find it hard to know how much help I can be (or if I have enough time to be useful) without having some idea what we'd be aiming to create :) .

I'm working on the formal game design document at the moment (as well as business plan, cash flow forecasts, etc etc etc) so bare with me :)
-
Sure. I look forward to seeing it, this sounds interesting.
-
so bare with me :)
Saucy!

Tbh it's a bizarre phrase no matter if you spell it properly or not. "Bear with me"? Where's the bear??
-
My immediate thought is to the TV programme of that name mentioned in Doctor Who :D

I think it's "bear" as a verb, in a similar sense to "bear a load".
And while I'm here, I could probably help with this, at least with data structure design and maybe some UI design.

You're no fun.
But yes, any and all help is greatly appreciated - GDD should go live later this week, so yeah, stick about for that and see how you can help!

As promised, the skeleton of a game design document can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1azxk_AgxftFPHNQ0TroBxBRLRwrtUyLsKWzxd6h3aMA/edit?usp=sharing
As for a monetization plan... I'm open to suggestions.
-
Still open to suggestions, people!
-
Seems interesting, but I don't know exactly how much help I'd be... I also don't have any ideas how to monetise something like this sadly :( .
-
I keep meaning to look at this and failing, sorry. Will apply self to it sometime soon!
-
I'm building the thing! Using Ruby on Rails. Updates will come as and when they happen.
If you still want in on development/testing/etc, please feel free to comment :)
