Title: Clever cars making decisions for you

This kind of stuff freaks me out. When I get my car, I don't want to be dictated to about where to go by my own vehicle, and I bet a lot of these systems that call 999 would end up being accidental hoax calls because said car hit a lamp post.

The last bit: "Do you want to be able to have the right to drive completely irresponsibly, potentially kill people and waste resource?" he asked. "Well, it seems we do. We seem to think that is more important than killing people."

That annoys me. He's saying 'give up your own ability to make decisions for the greater good'. Sigh. A better solution would be stricter penalties for irresponsible driving and perhaps a more rigorous driving test. But of course that would cost the government (and therefore us) money.

When I get my own vehicle, I'm going to be looking for a 90s model as the latest for several reasons:

1. Less electrics means easier to fix on the side of the road if need be.
2. Cheaper to buy, and if in good condition, cheap to maintain, partly due to being able to do self mechanics.
3. I don't want a vehicle that tells me what road I can and cannot go down. I'll work that out myself with a map, thanks.

What are your thoughts on this?

I'm in favour of more environmentally friendly cars, but not ones that don't listen to the human above all. I mean, I suspect it would be much better if cars were made to far simpler designs - these days, it's becoming an increasingly specialist job even to work out what the hell's going wrong with it.
