And here it is, laydeez and jellyspoons. Warhammer Total War, in beta campaign mode.
THIS IS NOT COMPLETE. IT IS NOT NECCESSARILY STABLE.
On the other hand, big new building trees, all your favourite factions, and a lovely big map of the Warhammer World are most definitely there.
So have fun! The release is a RAR file, with readme instructions included.

I'm keen to create as many DL mirrors as possible, so if anyone else can create any that'd be awesome.
Oh you're still working on this mod ? Good job, congratulations on your new release...

yeah
B)
Just need to do some more work on the damn thing now...
A wee problem, a few errors related to the models_engine folder. :-/ The computer cant recognize the names of about 6 of them, and some of them actually have the right names. What should I do? Is there anyway to find a working version of that folder? Or did I do something wrong?
Can you give me screenshots of the exact error, the file structure of where you put WHTW, and your WHTW shortcut? I might be better able to help then.
Thanks.
I keep trying to post but it wont let me when I attach files. :'( Could I perhaps email them to you?
Sure, james[at]wavcott[dot]org[dot]uk
Did you ever get the email?
"pink snow" on the campaign map getting you down?
paste the attached file into the WHTW/data folder replacing the old one and you will be good to go
sorry for the inconvenience

I'm looking for someone who's willing to work on the names files. Anyone with significant WHFB knowledge would be preferable, or at least the motivation to do research. Any takers?
I'd be willing to help out with names. Just tell me how many you need for each race and I'll get on it for you.
I've never modded Total War before, its why I don't have any clue what you need. :D
I'll PM you details of what to do soon. :)
Cool, happy to help.
About to go and take over the Old World in the name of Aenarion. :D
EDIT: Figured I'd keep everyone posted on how I'm going with the names.
Finished all the Empire ones, North and South. And all the Kislev names except the female ones. Gonna start on the Bretonnian ones tonight. But there are a lot of names. I've cut out a few names, so there will be slightly less variety that say Vanilla but there's still a shedload.
I was thinking how hard is it to add new speeches? Because some new ones to fit with all the races, like Orcs yelling WAAAAAGH! at the start and Skaven speaking all, well, Skaven-y would be awesome. I'd be willing to do the speeches only I don't know how. Like what programs to use or anything but I do have a really good audio converter so I might be able to just record the speech and then convert it so it's usable right? So if that's something you're looking at Jubal, I'd like to help. Basically I'd like to see this become what Mark of Chaos should have been.
PS. Speaking of Mark of Chaos did you get permission to use the music?
I can't remember how to mod the sound files, but it's something I'll definitely look into. I'm working fairly hard for my January exams at the moment, but I'll take a look at it afterwards.
Excellent work on the names; there should be a fair amount of new stuff for the next release I'm hoping. :)
Thanks.
I've done all the Elves. I love Elves so they just flew by. I've also done most of the humans, only Dragon Islanders and Chaos to go. With regards to the DI, what theme were you going for? I've noticed they seem to be Oriental so something like that?
PS: Just so you know Dragon Islands are actually a High Elf colony I believe. It's a pity about the faction limit. But is that limit only on playable factions or is it everything?
Limit is on all factions of any sort.
I think there's a colony somewhere on the islands, but that's just one tower & small port or something so not too significant; otherwise the islands are just fairly wild. I'm not wholly sure about naming them; something fairly Indian I guess, or possibly West African. The DIs will be fleshed out more next time; basically as a faction they're meant to be humans but of a very wild and tribal sort and with many & varied non-human allies. I'm planning that they'll have a golem unit, and maybe even zoats if I can make some that look decent.
And yeah, I figured elves were your thing. :P
Hmmm that's a damned pity about the factions. Here's hoping that when (that's right, it better be when and not if) Rome 2 comes out, there's no limit. Then we can really go to town. :D
I was thinking Indian names too and that's a good thing cause it means I can get the names for the lords in my Warband mod too.
QuoteAnd yeah, I figured elves were your thing.
I wonder why... ;)
This is a little off topic but are the Skaven not supposed to have any weapons? And unfortunately my sister thinks they're "cute." I tried explaining that they're evil domination types but she didn't get it. I ended up just falling back on, "You saw Reepicheep in Narnia. He kicks ass."
I should probably explain that I was playing the campaign and she asked if she could give multiplayer a go. Took bloody ages to find a map that worked, but figured out that sieges work wherever. Its just a dusty godforsaken piece of dirt in the middle of the ocean with some walls and such. Just thought I'd let people know who were getting annoyed with Custom Battles. I can sort out a list of maps that work and what they look like if anyone wants?
A maps list would be great; if you post it as a new thread I'll sticky it.
As for the skaven; I'd like them to have weapons, but the model doesn't have one. The General's Guard/Stormvermin will get pikes next time round probably.
Ok I'll have a maps list posted later on today.
As far as the Stormvermin go, would the weapons that the Dragon Islanders Halberdiers have be possible? Cause the Stormvermin models have a mix of halberds and glaives. And the DI halberds are pretty close to glaives. Then again pikes would probably be more useful.
It's gotta be pikes; usually weapons can only be added by a 3d modeller, and we don't have a 3d modeller. Pikes are the only exception and can be added through code; no real idea why the devs did that, except that it's to do with the hardcode for phalanx formations. This is why the saurus have pikes, they're exactly the same model as the skaven and it's the only way I can arm them.
Aaah bugger. That sucks. But if we had a 3D modeller it would be possible, right?
EDIT* Have you though about a Bug Reprt thread around here? Would probably really help with polishing the mod. :D I have another one if you're interested.
The Orc's piggies appear to be floating.
The pigs are, believe it or not, another modelling issue. :-/
And yesh, bug reports really would help. I'll get on it.
Hey I've been wondering, you know the Fourth Age mod for BI right?
Well they've got a hereditary trait that dictates what the character's bodyguard unit is. For instance, "Captain of Ithilien" gives White Company bodyguard.
I was wondering if something similar could be done here. For instance, Grand Masters could be Empire Lords that have a bodyguard of their respective Order.
The Loremaster of Hoeth could be guarded by Swordmasters, etc.
I reckon that would be a really cool feature.
I was also wondering, are immortal Lords possible? Cause its a bit of a kick in the gonads when your Tomb King dies of old age. :D
Gonads? What gonads, they're skeletons remember? :P
Traits are something I really need to look into at some point, but haven't gotten round to yet sadly.
Oh right sorry, better change that to, "Non-existent gonads." :D
And with regards to the traits, glad to have given you the incentive to get a move on. ;)
Yesh yesh... I will do, but probably after my three A Level exams this week.
Wow tough break. Good luck man. :D
Hi Jubal and all the team of WHTW. :)
I've installed the campaign mod and begun to play with Imperial Army of Altdorf.
It looks great, even i don't know the worl of WarHammer, or only a few... :$ The map is very nice and surprising for me. :)
But i have a question : the Imperial Army of Middenheim wouldn't have to be ally with Altdorf ? I ask it, because since about 20 rounds, i'm in war with them, and i have lost my faction leader 'cause they have attacked Altdorf... :P
Remark :
With custom battles, i'v seen that there is skins for dwarf officers have problems with axes : we see black rectangle. :X
I've opened the file LB_DWARF_AXEMAN.TGA.dds, but i don't undetrstand why : the alpha1 layer seems be good... ? :cyclops:
However, i can only say you : very good job. :)
It's nice to see that mods are still developed with RTW. :P
And some news units are very well made ! ;)
I will mp you under exilian as you has proposed since a lot of days with your mp under TWC.
PS :
Please excuse my poor english, it's not my native language. :flashy:
Hi! Don't worry about the English, 's fine.
At the time the mod is set, the Empire is in the middle of a schism/civil war, hence the fact you're not allied to Middenheim; if anything, your first task is to reunify the Empire and stamp them out!
Textures aren't my department, I know nothing about alpha layers etc at all I'm afraid. :ermm:
Well I've been experimenting and I'd like to offer my services as a texturer. I can't model as I only have Wings and I'm armadilloe at it. But I can do textures.
If you're interested I'll pm you some of the stuff I've done as a bit of a recomendation type thing. I'm still asking around for a modeller but no luck so far.
Off Topic but do you know where descr_animals.txt is? I'm trying to retexture the Celt Wolfhounds so they're Wolfhounds and not Rottweilers.
I think d_a is just in data, but I may be wrong.
And yeah, more texturing would be greatly helpful, I've got a list of new skins I need made somewhere. :)
Quote from: "Jubal"And yeah, more texturing would be greatly helpful, I've got a list of new skins I need made somewhere. :)
Excellent. Whenever you like, send em to me and I'll have a go.
By the way I sort of slackened off on the names. :$ I'll start up on them again soon.
Oh and I should have mentioned I wanted animals.txt for BI. You're right as far as Vanilla is concerned. But its not there for BI.
lol, I so forgot this forum :flashy:
I realised that you didn't answer my question earlier.
Is it possible for factions who should be to have immortal generals? Or at least lengthen their lives? I found a walkthrough on how to get a certain faction from a mod for Alexander to have immortal family members, but I don't know if it will work for WTW.
Here's a link if your interested. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=221984 (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=221984)
I'm pretty sure that is an Alexander-only function, though with scripts you should be able to keep respawning the same guy even if he dies, like in LOTR-TW.
Possibly with a hell of a lot of scripting, but I suspect there are very many more pressing uses of my time in terms of improving the mod so I'm not going to put it too high on my list. I'll get you the skinning list soon.
Fair enough. Hopefully we'll be able to do it. I think it would be a really neat feature. ;)
Looking forward to receiving your list.
looking forward to seeing your work :D
Thanks, hope I don't disappoint you to much. BTW the Celt vs Roman AAR thread has a couple of my textures in it if your interested.
i am pretty new on this game..........i will enslave all the populus :D
they will no
:DarkstarOnly:Knee Suckers.....i dont mean you in the forum
Hey, I've been following the mod for a while but I'm interested in signing on to help in whatever way possible. I am going into a Game Design program in August and I want to get involved with a mod to help prepare myself. So, if this is still active, please let me know what you would need help with :)
Well hello there, gents. Always nice to see new faces here at teh world of Exilian, and in the Total War foums no less! Allow me to welcome you here. :D
What sort of Game Design program are you going into, Barbasol?
Well, the program itself is through the Vancouver Film School, it involves different people from different disciplines. I myself being most involved with Game Design in it's most literal form. It's vague, but the best way to describe it would be designing actual gameplay, narrative, and features. If that made sense,
Depending on what's needed in this project, I'd be happy to help where needed.
Well, the greatest need is always for model design & manipulation, but unless you have the (ludicrously expensive) 3ds MAX program the models are uneditable anyway. Beyond that the choice is really between graphics (in other words, the 2d "skins" that go on the models) and direct coding or scripting. I can happily keep you supplied with jobs in each area until the cows come home.
And yeah, the project's still very much alive so work on it is always helpful. :)
Yep textures are still being worked upon. And as far as modelling goes you should be able to use Gmax. I think that's free, isn't it?
You can't save the models using Gmax, I believe, only load them.
I see. That does suck. Oh well disregard what I said. Its a pity Wings3d can't do it. :P
I'd be happy to get into scripting. I have some experience doing stuff like that. I don't know RTW's system, but I'm sure I could learn it.
Specifically, I'd be very willing to get into the nitty gritty of the Campaign mode.
Well I don't have all that much experience in RTW modding but from what I saw its pretty much all done in .txt files. Looked pretty straightforward. But then again I barely fiddled with the Campaign so I don't really know. I'm gonna go head back to my section where I actually know what I'm talking about. ;)
Hm, I haven't done much with campaign scripts but I'm sure there's tons we can look into.
My first advice is to take a look at tutorials on Total War Center and see how campaign/trait scripting works. Used creatively it could add some really nifty stuff - and really what that stuff is, due to the scope of it, can be fairly open-ended in terms of what you find you want to do.
Some basic things that definitely want doing are working with the traits - I'd ideally like some "magic item" ancillaries and traits that make the generals into seriously kickass heroes - which is to say decent extra boosts to HP and attack among any other fun effects you can find to add in (presume these can be variable according to faction). Things like that could really make the campaign play experience much more fun.
So yeah; without you knowing what you can do there's little value in me giving you much of a wishlist, so my advice is to start learning, see where the code takes you, and come back with ideas for things it could allow us to add.
Many thanks - it's always really exciting to have fresh blood on the team (and I mean that in the "bouncy team leader" sense, not the Von Carstein sense. Just to clarify. :P ).
That could probably work pretty easily if we were to say, swap out Academy ad Ludus Magna buildings for things like magic shrines. Then the items could be given to the local generals as Retinue. :P
I played through campaign briefly but I did notice a few issues;
- Lizardmen should really be split Southlands and Lustria, otherwise the Capital Distance will put them at a serious disadvantage the entire game.
- I'll try to design some tech trees for overarching civilization families. What I came up with is grouping it to about six general families. These will share overall building culture but have specifics
Elf- Dark Elves, Wood Elves, High Elves
Chaos- Hordes of Chaos, Chaos Dwarfs, Skaven
Undead- Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts
Savage- Orcs & Goblins, Ogres, Beastmen
Lizardmen- Lizardmen, Southlands
Human- Imperial Factions, Bretonnia, Tilea, Kislev
Dwarf doesn't really fit though.
-I'll also try to work on getting starting buildings for factions to prevent rebel territories being auto-conquered.
Oh and could you send me what all units are planned to be in?
Then I can get to work on planning all this out. :)
Hey mate, you are right about the Lizards being at a severe disadvantage but there are no faction slots to split them. Not unless, Rebel are renamed to Orcs and Goblins (Cause thats what they basically are at the moment) and then the Orcs and Goblins faction can be called something else. But I'd personally prefer Estalia to another lIzardmen factions. :P
I worked up a faction token for Chaos Dwarfs, seeing as they were missing one. I used the Rune of Hashut for their symbol, seems to be their most recognizable one.
I'm not sure what kind of work has gone into the previous factions, but I'd gladly redo them all for a sense of completeness.
-----
Hmm... a good point.
I'm wondering about this Dragon Isles faction though. I'd personally recommend axing them. Considering their entire reason for being was to add another faction to contest the south? Well, if we have a Southlands faction, there is that sense of contest in the region. It would really balance out Lizardmen, not to mention making things easier as they can be a simple reskin rather than entirely new models.
The biggest balance issue I'm seeing though, is the vast amount of Rebel territories. By having these, it is giving a huge advantage to factions that are close to them. If I were to humbly make a couple suggestions, the Chaos Wastes should A) Fewer territories that are much larger, after all, this isn't a rich region, they are wastes. or B) Move the Warriors of Chaos up there and also make some regions bigger. For example, the Chaos Wastes in this case could outproduce the Empire and Bretonnia.
Oh, and I'd also recommend a Norsca faction. That's a lot of regions in the area to leave rebel.
Anyhow, thats just from a campaign design perspective. :)
EDIT- Hmm... not sure why the pic isn't showing... Here's a link;
Chaos Dwarf (http://img193.imageshack.us/i/chaosdwarfsymbol.png/)
Yeah well I'd also say DI could go if I hadn't spent about a month doing textures for them. :-/
I'd personally say something along the lines of just combining the Empire simply because at the moment at least they are all nice to each other. That and it is a little irritating seeing the Emperor of the Northern Empire running around near the Emperor of the Southern Empire. :D
But you are right about the Southlands Lizards simply being a reskin of the normal Lizards so it would indeed be less work. But I say lets wait for Jubal. It is his mod and lets face it, it really doesn't matter what we say, the decision is of course his.
Oh and your image isn't showing up. Just thought I'd let you know although it could be my computer's fault. :D
Oh, absolutely, these are just balancing suggestions.
Added a link to the bottom of the post.
I think that pinkness on the campaign map is a texture problem. I'll look into it tomorrow.
No its ok Comrade fixed it already. First page of this thread mate. :D
EDIT* Very nice icon mate, ;)
Just tried out the Dragon isles and I gotta say, they're one of the better looking armies in the game. GJ champ. :)
Should I go about working on all the logos? Or are the ones already present just ripped or 'homemade'?
The reason for not splitting the Lizards is simple; they have only three unit types. It would make the game much less interesting having two very similar and comparatively boring factions. The Islanders have become a fairly interesting faction, anyhow.
We do need to sort the capital distance thing, I suspect for Lizardmen we could just make it so all Lizard-specific buildings give huge happiness bonuses (after all, they're the children of the Old Ones, they're hardly going to get discontent doing the will of the Slann).
As it happens, the chaos wastes cannot by any means outproduce the Empire; the game has set farming rates, and those in the Empire tend to be 4-5 times those out in the wastes, they're productively useless. Nevertheless I'm planning to give O&G +1 and Chaos +2 or 3 settlements for the next release to give them a better starting boost.
I'd love to have Estalia, Norsca, Hobgobs, another Tilean faction, etc, but the slots just don't add up really. Also the "families" of factions are hardcoded numbers-wise and I've set them up as follows:
1 (Egyptian) (Lizards)
2 (Carthaginian) (Araby & TK)
3 (Eastern) (Elves)
4 (Greek) (Dwarfs, CDs, Tilea, Vampies)
4 (Roman) (Brets, Kislev, Empire Midd & Alt)
6 (Barbarian) (Chaos, Rats, O&G, Beastmen, DIs, Ogres)
Anyhow, that's my rationale for it all.
Eurgh.... I was working up a response to this thread about and hour ago and a mouse showed up right next to my feet... So... i'm gonna hold off doing the badge for Skaven until I can fathom sleeping again.
ANYWAYS...
Gotcha, that works out just fine then. :)
I worked up a starting logo and a brief campaign synopsis lifted from the official Ogres descriptor from GW. So, what this pack contains;
Ogre symbols- replacing scythian.
And, importantly a new descr_sm_factions and campaign descriptions docs. So, forewarns in case they are out of date.
This is kind of the trial run, so if you see any problems/concerns/suggestions just let me know. :)
http://www.2shared.com/file/5poQ-5yF/OgreSymbolPack.html (http://www.2shared.com/file/5poQ-5yF/OgreSymbolPack.html)
I also switched the Scythian/Ogre colors to a sort of off-white primary and crimsony secondary. Seemed to be the best options for them.
Oh, but I can't seem to figure out the system you guys are using for the packed DDS files. I cant find the txt file referencing them so I can't reroute access. Any ideas? I'm trying to work on Campaign map banner icons atm.
If the DDS file is in the WHTW folder it's ours, if it isn't there then the game just finds the vanilla version instead.
Alright, thanks, I managed to figure out the symbol system for the most part.
Boys n' girls, here's the first batch of badges. Any concerns please let me know. :)

They look really, really nice. :D Can't wait to see what you do for the Elves. :)
I personally like the Dragon Islanders one but we'll have to see what Jubal reckons. They are his love-child (Wait, what? :P ) after all.
Of course. I tried to find as tribal looking a dragon as possible when making that one. Also, have you guys ever thought of putting some saurus into the Dragon Isles? In my lizardmen army book it says the Dragon Isles are inhabited by feral lizardmen, maybe they could be part of the Dragon Isles army as well? Could do a Saurus Warrior regiment in the process.
Alright, just for you champ.
High Elves
Very nice! I approve. ;)
And I'm impressed by your speed too. Damned quick! :D
As to the Lizards on the Dragon Isles I already informed Jubal of the High Elf colony in there as well. But he's decided that he's going with tribal humans. Should be interesting.
BTW Jubal I read something a while ago about a human race called the Ikkadians or something like that. They live in southern Naggoroth and seem to be based off Native Americans. I'll try and find it again to show you. It might be something to think about. Possibly as part of the Rebel faction.
I really like how this one came out. Skaven, skaven everywhere so lets all have a drink.
Skaven
Very nice although I'd look at having red on a black field. Just because I'm sure that's the colours GW uses. I think. On second thoughts leave it, it looks really nice. :D
Got a plan for Kislev? May I suggest a white Bear's head in profile on a sky-blue field?
That's a good idea. I tried a red bear on a sky blue for army colors, but the pic I used just looked bad. I'll take a look around and see what I can dig up.
This one took a bit of work. But here it is;
Kislev
Hell yeah, that is kickass. That bear is awesome.
So how are you churning these out at such a phenomenal rate? :P
wow, epic ;)
Well, I actually enjoy making the base symbols, it's converting them all to the various sizes and renaming 'em that slows me down ;).

I threw Araby through one more time to swap out the colors.

I'm wary of giving a Blue/Red color scheme to another human faction though, Brettonia has those colors already.
Working on a Luccini badge now. Should be done in a half hour. ;)

I would like to know though, Jubal, are these alright with you? I don't think you've said anything on them yet. I want to be sure you give the thumbs up before I go about formally implementing them. In recap;
Altdorf-Araby-Chaos Dwarf-Warriors of Chaos
Dragon Isles- Dwarf- High Elf- Kislev
Luccini- Ogre Kingdoms- Skaven- Tomb Kings
Note- I will redo Ogre Kingdoms texture.
Hmm I think I like the new Araby one better but I'm not sure. :-/
How about just a gold cross on a brighter red field for the South Empire then? What you've got looks great but it just doesn't feel...Empire-y.
I really like the Dwarf one but I'm sorry to do this to you. The sacred animal of Luccini is the leopard, not the lion. It looks really nice though.
Argh, it's that obvious? Lol, I tried finding a good leopard but to no avail. Thought I could get away with a black lion. I'll swap it out in my next designing session. ;)
So yeah, next time I'll try to do Bretonnia, Midenheim and Altdorf at the same time to make sure they are different enough.
Lol yeah just a bit. :P The mane gives it away. Leopards don't tend to have them you know? ;)
Sounds good mate, good luck. :D
Alright, I warmed up the red in Altdorf, made it seem more empire-y.

Middenheim
Very nice. I like them all, but what about steering away from Altdorf and just go with the banner of another Southern Empire province. (This is more something for Jubal) Talabecland for instance? Black eagle on red and yellow field. It's just that the Altdorf banner isn't really Altdorf. More like Carroburg. Or Talabheim which is the same as the Talabecland banner but with white instead of yellow. And sometimes a "real" Twin-Tailed Comet instead of the eagle.
EDIT* Or maybe just a gold trim on the cross on your Altdorf banner might do the trick. These are just suggestions by the way. Just trying to be helpful. :D
Of course, I don't get offended by suggestions. :)
I could try the black regimental eagle from Altdorf or something like that. Since it was the capital of the Empire I went with the official empire logo basically. I'd be fine with changing it, I'll just wait for Jubal to weigh in.
Mostly great so far. In general it's important that we keep banners and symbols consistent, so Brets should be a lion rampant etc. I think that's the only critique I really have to make; Altdorf could do with a bit of something else, I agree. Gold or purple possibly.
If someone can get me the banner files for each specific army, I'd be happy to use them in the faction symbols design. :)
They're all in WHTW/data/models/textures I think (and referenced in descr_banners.txt).
Okay perfect found em. :)

Ogre Kingdoms Redesign
A minor change, but the light/shadow factor on the early one look bad IMO
Recap Time- My own fault for saving as a JPEG, but you'll get the idea.

I was wondering if we could talk about the allocation of time to certain factions sometime. I don't mean any disrespect, but It just seems very strange to me that there's a lot of attention given to very minor expanded universe factions [2 Empire factions, Araby, Lucinni, Dragon Isles] and little time given to some major factions. Especially Lizardmen and Skaven. Is there any chance that these guys will get more units?
There are some really cool unit options that could be explored here; Kroxigors, Salamanders, Razordons, heck we could even get some Carnosaur Cavalry ripping it up on the battlefield! Razordons could fire a burst of arrows, Salamanders a small flaming onager shot.
Oh, and I feel like I should mention, if someone were to model Cold Ones, they could operate for Dark Elves and Lizardmen too.
You basically answered your own question there mate. Jubal hasn't got anyone to model stuff. Everything he has is either Open Source or his own work I suspect from something that was said about the Centaurs in Narnia. But I might be wrong there. Although I'm sure that all of your suggestions would be liked. And hell, if I could model I'd offer my services, but unfortunately I can't and what's more I'm skint broke so I can't even afford the (admittedly ridiculously expensive) program to do it.
You really are a Lizard man aren't you? :P
And all of those new emblems look great. I especially like the Tilean one. ;)
Through and through, man. Been playing Lizardmen for.... wow... over five-six years now... Lol.
I just find they never get enough representation in Warhammer games. :)
I've actually tried the Lizardmen symbol most. Can't seem to get a good base awesome enough for my personal taste. ;)
EDIT- Oh, so if I were to go out recruiting for some modellers, they could do some for the game? We aren't at any caps or anything?
Speaking of which.... here's Lizardmen... be honest what do you all think? I'm not sure about this one, but maybe it's because I'm so cold-bloodedly biased ;)

Lizardmen
We're certainly not at any caps on models; as Phoenix says, the unit count is determined mainly by my beg/borrow/steal count.
lol jubal
Alright, so I ran through a couple steps and I believe this is most cases of Kislev symbols here...
Could somebody pop these in and tell me if they run alright? I don't have my Rome disc and I'm out of the house for the week.

That Beast emblem is beast! Sorry I couldn't resist. :P
Well, on that route, the Wood Elves one give me some serious....elf. ;)

Vampire Counts
Alright, ladies and gentlemen.... I THINK we may be done here.... well, the overall design at least.
==================
Altdorf - Araby - Beastmen - Bretonnia
Hordes of Chaos - Chaos Dwarfs - Dark Elves - Dragon Isles
Dwarfs- High Elves - \Kislev - Lizardmen
Lucinni - Middenheim - Ogre Kingdoms - Orcs & Goblins
Skaven - Tomb Kings - Wood Elves - Vampire Counts
While I really like the Asrai one, I think the inverted Yenlui rune that is on the spine of the Wood Elf book may fit better. It's balance, harmony and what have you in Eltharin. But the tree still looks really nice. ;)
Oh and the VC one looks great. Nice and scary. :D
If you could provide a link to some examples, I may just swap it out. :)
There's a few symbols I want to redo before I start plugging it into game specific formats;
Chaos Dwarfs is too boring IMO
Middenheim needs a touchup or two
Tomb Kings looks odd

Tomb King Redo

Middenheim Redo
I'd say a lion rampant or rather than a fleur-de-llys or for the Brettonians as well.
(N.b. in case anyone's unfamiliar with the term, I'm using "or" to mean "gold" in the heraldic sense, I haven't given up my grasp of English grammar entirely)
No problems Jubal, I got it. ;) But I must say, I disagree with you. A gold lion would look good, true but the Fleur-de-Lys is THE quintessential Bretonnian icon. The lion on the other hand is pretty generic. But of course its your mod, so whatever floats your boat mate. :D
To Barbasol: I actually think that the originals were better there. The new Tomb King one lost its contrast without the black skull and of course the awesome glowing eyes, while the Middenheim one, well, I dunno, I think I just prefer the old one. :)
As far as the Dawi-Zhar go, I actually quite like the one you have now. I hadn't seen the Rune of Hashut before, it was before my time I think, so that was pretty cool.
Cheers,
Mhm, the Fleur-de-lis is their official logo both on army books and boxes as well as in Lore. But I can change it if you are absolutely certain...?
I'm fine with sticking with the two unedited* ones, I do think I should change Chaos Dwarf tho lol. Turns out it's sideways. XD
*EDIT- unedited, rather than edited... just noticed that
Alright, the true Rune of Hashut Chaos Dwarf symbol;
That looks good Barbasol, I don't really see what it has to do with bulls though. I mean that is what Hashut is all about right?
Not really sure. All I know of him is he's their main god so whatever.
How are Chaos dwarfs gonna be done anyway? Dwarf reskins?
Yeah Hashut is the Chaos God of Fire and Bulls are his sacred animal. Supposedly 11 is his sacred number but I don't know much about that. It's postulated that he was a particularly powerful Greater Daemon of Khorne (ie. Bloodthirster) and was imprisoned underground by the God after Khorne got jealous. Ages after, when Dwarven miners were delving after they had been cut off from their kin in the south, and well, west I suppose, they accidentally released him, although they soon realised that through him, they could gain more power than ever before. Through the way that Gods work in the Warhammer world,, Hashut therefore gained enough power to become, more or less, a God, simply through belief.
What this doesn't explain is why Chaos Dwarves have Sorcerors, as Khorne and by extension, his Daemons are diamterically opposed to magic. But anyway, that is supposedly his backstory. There is actually quite a lot of backstory about him on the internet, so its pretty easy to find fan-made stuff about him.
As far as how they're being made, they generally have Dwarf models I believe, but they definitely have their own textures. It's part of what I'm doing. But I'm not doing them bright red and with big hats like the old stuff. I'm basing them more or less from the Hellcannon crew, so dark chain and scale, burgundy cloth and bronze helms.
That's good. I always thought those guys looked cool. They basically had dreadlocks for beards. :)
Well, I'm almost ready to get converting all the main symbols for their in-game purposes. Once I get back to my apartment I should be able to have everything done before too long. Then I can move on to some other jobs.
Most of the CD units are their Hobgoblin slaves anyway, the number of Dawi Zharr isn't great.
There are many theories as to Hashut; I prefer the idea that he IS a primary God (not someone else's demon), but was locked up in a bitchfight with Khorne. He's really a Lawful Evil deity, using Chaos in its corrupting power but ultimately attempting to create an orderered world where all are slaves beneath his chosen people. That's my interpretation anyway, simply because I think it fits better with evil Dwarfs.
Yeah I prefer that theory as well. The only reason I said all that stuff up there, was because that was GW's official stance on the matter following a book that was written 20 years ago. Or somewehre around there.
Oh and of course the Hobgoblins are brownish-green skinned, almost khaki, and wear red, ragged robes. That's as far as the mod goes I mean. I did one unit. I think.
Argh... stayed up hours trying to get this to work... dunno why it doesn't. The logos get cutoff and look weird... anyone can help?

Dunno... comrade_general is prolly the man to ask...
They look ok to me, maybe a little off-center. Are you sure your alpha channel's are matching up?
Hey guys,
Sorry I don't have long but Jubal, have you thought about asking the Fourth Age team for their stuff. Specifically the Dwarven models. Cause they've got Hammerers and such that would fit into a Warhammer setting pretty well.
Just a suggestion and I get the feeling that they may not particularly want to share.
I've been reluctant to nick too much FATW stuff primarily because I want this to look like WHFB not LOTR...
True enough but remember it can always be retextured... ;)
great that this has gotten new steam :D
Well if you mean by new steam, not commented on for almost a month, then yes. :P
Anyway I've dropped off texturing, however now I own both Medieval 2 and Rome, so I can claim time off on "familiarising myself" with Medieval 2.
Hopefully I'll be finished soon. Wish me luck.
Good luck.
Thanks Mark. Jubal, I have finished texturing. I think. I'll send em to you whene I can get enough time to upload them to mediafire or something like that.
BTW has anyone seen Barbasol? He seems to have just disappeared. :(
Great, you can email them to me rather than uploading if that's be easier.
And yeah, Barba seems to have gotten lost. :/
My emails are a bit weird, I'm not sure if you'd get them, so uploading would be easier. Just time consuming. :(
Cheers mate,
Its a pity about Barbasol, he was very good with those symbols.
moar work!!!! :P
Uhm, im quite new at this and wanted to install your mod. But I Can't get it to work i got the rome total war gold and bought it through steam so the path should be something like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\RTW_MP\rome total war gold"
But I'm certainly not good at this and apparently screwed up somewhere on the way. could someone plz help me?
Have you got a desktop shortcut for RTW? If so, the line will be the same as for that... I don't know how steam works well unfortunately. Can you go to your RTW folder in Windows Explorer, then post a screenshot of it? That might help me work out what's going on. :)
Ive been trying ti figure out what was wrong i get the error message "failed to find steam" i also get that error emssage then i try to start RTW from that folder it only seems to work then i start it up in steam itself.
So the error liew with steam and not the mod Ill try to look through forums but if anyone here know what could be the issue plz help me out I suck at searaching forums hehe.
I GOT IT!!! :), ill write what i found out if other people get the same problem. open steam and in the rome total war tab u right click and choose properties then choose set launch options under general and insert : "-show_err -nm -mod:WHTW" without the quotations. and then start the game and choose babarian invasion.
Really looking forward to playing this mod thx for wanting to do so much work for the community mates.
Well done on getting it working, hope you enjoy it. :)
we need a new download link
I'm planning a major release in mid-Feb anyway, but I'll try and get a new link up sometime soonish.
Sounds good Jubal. Any hints on what we can look forward to mate?

Seems my link doesn't do any good either since megaupload got its ass seized by the FBI. :P
And everything else it owned, too. :P
Definitely need some new download links for this... could be solved by releasing a newer version... :)
yep
Release pretty imminent!
