Somebody discuss it.
Would you guys say that Egypt before the Ptolemaic Empire had a decent military?
How long before the Ptolemaic Empire? They were decent enough in their day, but I don't think nearly as organized until their days under the Ptolemies.
(I was actually referring to the current political situation there for the purpose of this thread) ;)
it seems that the President has dissolved government and is getting a new one...
I see the protests going on for a few days yet
Meh I'm nowhere near up to date with modern events. :D
I was thinking like early against Canaan and stuff but never mind. :)

That's easily done, they only use the name "Egypt" for old times' sake. ;)
....
"Is it a rebellion?" asked Louis XVI of the count who informed him of the fall of the Bastille.
"No, sire," came the reply. "It is a revolution." B)
According to a foreign relations expert journalist down here, what we see in egypt and Tunisia is the fall of the Anti-colonistic regimes that were established as nation-savers before more than 40 years ago.
It makes good sence. People who revolt are studied men and they simply want democracy. It's a turning point, similar to a biblical exodus -so as to help my good friend phoenixguard09 understand- !!!
It's like the pharaoh's about to fall *wristles* !
And now Jordanians and Yemenis appear to be following suit. This is the subject of many profitable history books, happening before our very eyes. In places like Libya though, the government hasn't been overthrown, but they have promised a $24 billion investment fund to improve housing. Are we looking at a repeat of the fall of the Soviet bloc?
Al I can say about egypt is that I learned how to spell it when I was like 13 years old
My 10 cents to this discussion
You learned to spell Egipt when you were 13? Pffft.
:P
Wait...
I have just learned how to spell egipt
After playing RTW somewhat again (with advice on low; I couldn't have a siege without listening to the guy talk about siege equipment), the following comes to mind. I think someone should have taken Mubarak to one side and quietly mentioned that "Public order is becoming low here, and without action there may be a riot."
He should then have upgraded his temple.
Haha lol.
You wont believe it. My work came in today. Guess what my subject is for Ancient History?
"He should then have upgraded his temple". FTW. :D
I went to Egypt on holiday once, some people there offered to swap my sister for two camels. I don't think I'll ever get a better offer in my life than that :(
Quote from: "Jubal""He should then have upgraded his temple". FTW. :D
Agree 100% B)
@IFMN ouch. Just ouch
@SotK lol, I was also thinking of saying something related on RTW (since comrade_general's opening statement was too open :P )
So IFMN, did you make the trade or not?
Unfortunately we did, believe it or not, my parents didn't agree with the idea :( It's a shame because I think that I'd get on with the camels more than my sister.
No, go to India. 'cos Elephants > Camels.
But that would mean that Elephants>Camels>IFMN Sister... lol I don't see the difference of going to india
I guess you did mean Elephants<Camels though :P
As always:
incendiary pigs > war dogs > everything else
B)
I really hate war dogs...
Wow this got off topic, real fast. Back to discussing pre-Ptolemaic Egypt. B)
'Tis the sheer awesomeness of RTW, even with it's terrible OPness, horrible inaccuracy historical-wise and other minor complaints, it's 6 years and we still play it and comment it.
I think I'll never find I game I'll like that much.
Back to the pre-ptolemaic period in egipt (see, I learned it, phoenixguard!), the only thing the egiptians were missing were those damned warhounds. It was the only thing I feared from pre-marian armies, due to their bugginess and stupidness
Of course tis Egipt. Silly me, making such an obvious spelling error. :D
We need to vote on the changing of this thread's title. It should really be "Egipt." This forum does have a strict policy on correct spelling.
Looks like I might need to move this to RTW discussion, since it has little to do with the real world atm. :P
At least we have established the proper spelling of Egipt. That pertains to the real world, does it not? :P
Well it looks like they've expelled the prez. Now the military is in charge, but can those Nile Spearmen and Chariot Archers do justice to the people?
This could be very important across the middle east. After Tunisia Carthage and now Egypt, might riots increase in Algeria Numidia, Iran Parthia, or other dictatorships?
It's certainly possible; the people have made it clear that they wish to manually control construction, recruitment and taxes in all settlements.
The problem was always that the governers forgot to upgrade the temples... *sigh* noobs
Mubarak must not have known that the population loyalty bonus for all Egyptian settlements for owning the Pyramids wonder actually has no effect in game.
