Title: Universities, etc
Post by: Jubal on March 16, 2011, 10:41:23 PM
I'm trying to decide where to go to Uni, and exactly which courses to take, etc. Anyone know much about Universities that are good for history? Since I'm going to apply to Oxford or Cambridge as top choice, any thoughts on which?

I don't know much on the Brittish educational system but I say to you this: Both the universities you mentioned are really well known wordwide. Who doubts that Campridge is one of the best language universities, I mean it has many exams worldwide about English as a foreign language.

Oxford has a very good course conserning the ''classic antiquity'' . It is considered as one of the best universities for serious research on the Ancient Greek and Latin languages. I have a university teacher here who studied there. I can tell you that those both are prestigious universities and I am really sure you will suceed in entering them.

... Hope that helped you a bit, but surely I am not a knower of the issue ...

Traditionally, Oxford is seen as the best UK uni for humanities as far as I know.

Cambridge seems to be more or less even for History - it got a better research rating than Oxford last year. I'm leaning in that direction at the moment, since it's more accessible from home, I know it better, and it's nicer than Oxford (Oxford feels really city-ish, and I'm very much a country bumpkin).

Debux, are you looking at UK universities?

Well, I'm not ready for Uni yet, but the program I am in offers me possibilities for studying abroad (I live in south america). So knowing a good uni for history related stuffs is great.

Germany, I've been told, has good history-related unis as well. Language might be an issue (I know a bit :P )
