Anyone else played?
I've been running a lil' campaign as Tau on easy, which is proving a total walkover thus far. I'm just plugging enemies in their base via chokepoints, occupying the rest of the map while they're starved of resources, then blasting their HQ down with stingray gunships. Hasn't failed yet...
Brilliant game. Although the Lights of the Warp mod was always my favourite. Cause I helped out on it.
But yeah, I play Eldar, cause I like me Elves. And they're hard as all hell to play because you have to go up against Space Marines and Tau first up who are probably the two toughest races along with the Necrons.
I'd say the Tau base is also the hardest to take. You need a fast close combat unit. I used Harlequin Triads with Dark Reapers and Rangers to watch the base but I'm sure I could have pulled it off with just Banshees and Reapers in Vanilla.
My version is slightly modded, I just unlocked railgun turrets and added a Gue'vesa unit for the Tau. :)
I'm doing fairly well (as I should be on easy), but the Necrons are doing even better - they've taken Pavonis, and just flattened the Ork base. I'm considering gambling on trying to take out the Necron base since I have a province next to it, but that would be quite a risk.
You could make it easier by capturing space port and a few of the surrounding areas.... And did anyone else here have trouble defeating the Eldar? O.o
Um the Eldar base wasn't too bad in my experience. I took it in my Tau campaign and I think in my IG one too. I haven't played Dark Crusade in ages though although I have to say it was probably the high point in the series. The flying units killed Soulstorm in my opinion and I don't like DoW2 because of the play-style. It forces you to blitz really.
Back on topic though the first time I did it I found the Chaos base hard as all hell cause my armadillo kept dying. :P Oh and the Necron one starts off bloody difficult too, you need a good few honour guard units in that one cause you get bugger all time to sort out a defence otherwise.
All in all though I found the IG and Ork ones pretty easy. The Space Marine one wasn't too bad either and in my opinion neither was the Eldar one but I can imagine that play-style, honour guard units, faction being played and just experience in general would give completely different results. I suppose mods would as well. Still I dare someone to take the Tau base with Imperial Guard without tanks. That's painful. :P
Thats just suicidal, My favourite base to trash was Necrons :).Just make up an army, get a transporter, run the bomb in inside the transporter past all the enemies, set it down, run like hell. Worked for me :)
Yeah they were all pretty fun eh? :P
ORKSES IZ DA BEST 'ERE IS!
Aaah Orks were heaps of fun to kill. :P
I'd go up against three bases worth in the custom battle just for armadillos and giggles. :P
Had another go at this; finally managed the Necron base mission; once one has a reasonable number of honour guard units the base missions almost seem to end up easier than other missions because the AI is stupidly defensive. I've taken the IG and Chaos bases out now, just Marines and Eldar to go. But as long as one survives the early assaults, and as long as one takes it slowly, they don't seem too bad. My difficulty setting is easy, but I suck at RTS gaming so that should balance out and it doesn't.
And that IG titan cannon is the worst superweapon EVER. I mean, if it fired on seeing troops then recharged it could be nasty, forcing you to sacrifice a unit to cross the gulch thing. But regular as clockwork with enough time to dance an irish jig over the gap between firings? The chaos blood curse thing wasn't much better, frankly, since it didn't affect the stingrays that are pretty much the main point of my force.
Other highlight: the chaos leader going "Kill or be killed: either is a service to chaos." Which I was ecstatic about, though I'd have preferred they did more of the second option. :P
