I can't believe that no one has thought of this yet.
This is a general thread in which anyone can post his/hers recent work.
So here's what I've converted today:
I've converted the upper half of Count's Champion for my greatsword unit.
Right now I'm using Reiksguard knights as command for my greatswords, but I'd like to change that...
I'm going to make one greatsword unit and one Reiksguard knight on foot unit (8 or 10 men strong for the beginning).
Now back to the topic... I've used parts from knightly orders, greatsword and old state troop sprues.
I still need to add some feathers, a sash, some minor details and legs, which I'm probably going to make from scratch.
I'll post a picture when I finish the job.
Now, what's your story ?
Spoiler
(http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6818/img1060xw.jpg)
Just put the finishing touches on this little fella. I'm happy with how he turned out but this is an old photo so he looks a bit better now.
EDIT: Just realised that this pic was taken before I put the extra armour on him. There is now a big armour plate on his left shoulder and all the tusks are finished as opposed to just base-coated there.
Hehe actually the paintjob looks pretty crap in that picture. Sorry guys, I'll have to find something else to wow you all with. :P
Great job!
The armor on that boar looks very good, mostly because of the reflections... Sometimes it's hard to get those parts look right.
I'm looking forward to see the updated picture. ;)
My progress :
I've chopped the rest of my unfortunate knight to get a pair of armored boots for my Count's champion...
I'll just have to pin the legs and the lower part of torso and fill it with plasteline clay to get the idea for basic shape.
But the bad news are that I'm actually out of grey stuff and I'll have to buy some to finish this piece. And that's going to take some time.
I'll take a few pictures when I finish the pinning.
Ok, I've finally managed to upload it.
That's just an early wip picture, just to give you a hint of what I'm doing here.
I'm quite satisfied with the results...
Legs are looking a bit weird right now, but I'll fix that once I start grey-stuffing the figure.
Sword handle looks wrong on the first picture, but that's just because of the angle.
I'm planning to try some casting at some point, will let you all know how that turns out!
does it have to be today?
as ive got a empire captain on pegasus conversion, Bat riding goblins and a william wallace conversion to name a few
No, not necessarily... Just show us what you've made.
I'll rename the topic... You're right, it's a bit misleading right now.
EDIT : William Wallace conversion? You've got my attention... ;D
Silver Wolf, that Champion there deserves to be a Captain in his own right. He looks very nice, especially when you consider that the pic there is WIP.
If I may make a suggestion, I know that you pointed out that the hilt looks a bit off centre in the first pic, but honestly I think it's probably a little too small. I mean that is one kickass Zweihander there but there is very little room for the second hand.
Still that is just one fault in an awesome looking piece, hats off to you Silver. ;)
I'm going to post my concept art for the Pardus Titan soon. I'm going to make one over the course of the year. I figure I can post my progress on here for you guys to look at. Hopefully I don't embarass myself too badly. :P

You've noticed that too, eh ? ;)
I couldn't find anything suitable so I used the hilt from 6th edition state troop sword. I'll replace it if I find something better.
EDIT : Now this is weird... It's just half a millimeter shorter than original GW greatsword. (http://www.bitzbox.co.uk/images/empire_greatswords_single_sword_large.jpg?osCsid=172csn4ejlq8j73b750g9krpj4)
The shape of the hilt probably makes it look too small, but it fits nicely with the rest of the sword.
Maybe I'll just add a few details in order to to make the shaft look longer (chains, skulls, scrolls, ribbons and similar stuff).

Titan? I admit, I don't know much about 40k, but you're probably thinking of those huge robots, right?
A guy in the club made it from scratch, out of plasticard.
He had the blueprint, though...
i say william wallace, its vaguely based on him
(http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/35801_1324299468392_1258025299_30688288_2055654_n.jpg)
not a great pic but you get the idea, has been under coated awaiting paint job
hes william wallace as in, scantily clad with a freakin' massive sword and i have written rules for on CTA, you'l have to search though as i can't even remember where the rules are :D
A mix of Valten and orc slaying Wallace? Cool. 8)
The sword looks awesome by the way! It looks a lot like some kind of Runefang.
Where did you get it if I may ask?
My progress :
I've added a pair of feathers on the champion and ruined his overall look (well in my opinion, at least).
Adding the third feather might make him look better.
I'm using plastic glue and removal of those bits could cause some serious damage on the surface of the helm.
manfredd von carstein on foot, its the sword of unholy might

The Imperial soldier is just there for a bit of size comparison. Don't worry, the model will be less bulky, more lithe and agile. And for that matter, just better, cause I'm a fair bit better at sculpting than I am at drawing.
I'm confused, I must admit. How are you going to use it? As a giant in your army, or is there some other purpose (which I'm not aware of)?
I got bored again so I took one of my assault marines, chopped him into pieces and turned him into Vanguard veteran equipped with two handed relic sword.
I've got most of the job done.
I've also made a special scenic base for him.
Which color scheme would you pick ? Iron Fists look cool...
Iron Fists are pretty cool, but I reckon White Scars. I've always liked them. I know they're the biker guys, but still. ;) Should be a bit of a challenge to paint well too, as flat white can be tricky.
As to the Pardus Titan, I wrote up a list for the Khureshi, which are tiger-men in the East. They're sorta like noble beastmen. Anyway, the Pardus Titan is one of their Rare Choices and is easily the coolest thing on the table when completed. :P
I'm gonna convert it from the Giant kit, but it involves massive amounts of sculpting.
As far as stat-line goes.

I like the rules and the concept is not bad... Just one piece of advice : experiment with the poses. Giants are one of the best posers out there :D
Tearing victims in half is an excellent pose, for example. I'll do that once I lay my hands on some kind of giant.
So guys, do you have any ideas floating around?
I've got 4 wizards (currently hoarding bitz ;D), 2 warrior priests (one of them half finished), an engineer (not yet started), greatsword drummer, a unit of Reiksguard knights on foot, Blazing sun knight champion on foot (yeah, I like champion conversions) and Nurgle chaos chosen (just a few, almost done).
made a judge dredd conversion on lawmaster (bike) last month
plannning to convert some adeptus arbites for him to lead and make a judge dredd on foot
That sounds pretty cool D. I'd like to see that.
Myself I'm just gonna focus on my Khuresh until I get them finished. Good to hear you like the concept Silver. They're a pet project of mine. Hoepfully others will like them too. They've undergone pretty stringent playtesting (So much so that apart from High Elves they're my most played army) so we'll see. ;)

finished just not undercoated or on base :D
Hehe, I see some Empire bits. Greatsword sallet, general's mace...
I've pinned the rest of my conversions. Legs and torsos mostly.
And I've started a new warrior priest. The old one was not cool enough.
And last but not least, I've got this crazy idea... I was thinking about converting 40+ halberdiers. I don't like the current state troops.
That's why I ordered 2 pack of milliput.
I don't have much to show right now, except a few partially painted Chaos undivided warriors, if you're interested...
I finally got my Milliput. It's time for some serious conversions ! (http://epicbattleaxe.com/forums/images/smilies/viking_smiley_81.gif)
What exactly are you planning on doing to the Halberdiers? I have to say I'm not a fan of the new State Troopers myself so it will be interesting for me to see what you come up with.
I plan to do a lot of changes. I'm going to add puffy sleeves, neck guards, helmets and stuff. I want to make them look a bit more realistic and serious.
May I suggest you sculpt boots. Because the guy without shoes is frikken ridiculous.
The most ******* regimented body of troops in the ******* Old World and dirty ******* Bret Men@Arms have a more standardised appearance. The Men@Arms models are nice. State Troopers aren't. At least the Brets can affored shoes...
and the loss of enormous cod pieces!
My bitz from Australia finally arrived! I must say that Australian plastic bits look a bit different than the ones from England and Europe. It looks a bit darker and it's more rigid.
I'm going to make a space marine for 40k Deathwatch role-playing game. An Deathwatch marines look awesome.
Lol I really hope your talking about plastic. Cause saying the bits are darker and more rigid is... worrying. :D
And yes, Deathwatch are pretty cool.
Oh and nice new avatar Silver. Looks good.

Ah so a Vanguard right? Apparently one of the worst choices in the book. Still, they definitely look cool.
What Chapter is he gonna be from?
I made it just for fun. He's not for actual games.
I already painted him. Fire Angels scheme, I think.
I needed a musician for my Greatswords and the idea was to convert a drummer, but then I saw "The other side of the coin" diorama.
And I went for the bagpipes. I've finally found a way to use those two trumpets from the Greatswords box.
My IoB Griffon finally arrived... Now I'm going to turn it into an Empire Griffon.
Are they worth it though? The model would be stunning but generals of the empire are better on foot, unless hes not your general, which for what they cost is probable
No it's not worth of it, but I like fluffy lists and modelling challenges... :D
I've started working on my Nurgle daemon prince conversion.
I'm using a few chaos giant parts and stuff but I'm going to sculpt at least 70% of the model by myself...
I took a few pictures with a chaos warrior for comparison.
So is he worthy to call himself a Daemon prince?
I'm not sure if if he's tall enough. Right now, he's approx. 2.5x bigger than the chaos warrior.
That's probably about fifteen feet tall, which I'd say was big enough. Honestly, I think GW have started making too many things too big, a lot of the newer monsters are so big it looks silly.
I've sculpted the basic shape of his torso and shoulders and parts of legs using milliput yellow-grey.
Yellow-grey is really cheap and works really well for sculpting large parts of models, but it's not that good when it comes to smoothing surfaces and sculpting details.
I'll probably need something better for the final layer of the skin. Probably ProCreate gray stuff. It works like a charm on skin surfaces.
The only downside is that I only had a small sample of ProCreate, and that stuff is expensive.
Can't believe I haven't done this already...
Have I done this already?
Anyway, you'll have to excuse the photo quality but here's two of my more impressive paint jobs. I'll have to see if I can get Duke Dev to post a picture of his Roane Colonel I converted too. For anyone whose interested, the Roane are an Imperial Guard regiment based off the Australian Armed Forces in the Gaunt's Ghosts books.

I like your Bretonnian army general... The pose is really dynamic and he's actually standing on the base, which is great. I just can't stand those transparent plastic rods for flying units.
I might get my WoT stuff posted soonish...
Thanks Silver.
The entire shield is freehand by the way. Pain in the ass but I think it was probably worth it. Might try and find my sister's DE Corsair standard bearer. I did a big stormy seascape scene on the banner.
EDIT* Oh and yeah the rock. ;) All my Peg Knights are leaping/rearing on some sort of scenery on the base. I also absolutely loathe flying bases. They never stay whole so I figured, screw it. They even look sorta cheap if you think about it. They need to stay absolutely pristine to look any good, and I'm a bit of a messy gluer, so I think the scenery was a good replacement. Glad you approve. :D
Anyway, I'm sorry about the picture quality though guys. They actually look considerably better in real life. :(
I'd like to see your WoT stuff Jubal. Out of curiosity, what does WoT stand for?

The photos are armadilloe I'm afraid but the model pretty damned good. ;)
Just two tips : Take pictures in area where you have a lot of light and use macro settings on your camera.
The model itself looks neatly painted, but the picture is too blurry to see any highlights or details.
The camera's old and armadilloe. :P And my house is dark. Trust me, she did a far better job than the photo suggests. :)
Painting IoB rat ogres for Ash.
So much fun! Seriously, they're the best models I've painted so far...
I think I've spent 4 hours on those guys so far (including assembly, scraping off mold lines, green stuffing, priming and painting).
Hoping to put another 2-3 into them when I come back home in a few weeks. And upload some pictures.
This was the shortest holiday ever. Only one and a half day long...
I might find the time some day to upload some pictures of my own army, although it will be a little while as im not happy at all with my space (they aren't bad but theres no conversions done). Perhaps some Skaven rat ogres would be good to mess around with, if i can be bothered ill do this at some point.
I need a hand guys.
Or some ideas, to be more specific.
Now that I've collected almost everything I need for my Empire army, I've restarted my chaos warriors army project...
I'm planning to make at least 10 warriors/chosen for each chaos god.
- Since my army is going to be mono Nurgle, I already have Nurgle warriors. And they're a pretty straightforward conversion.
Original chaos warriors with a few zombie heads here and there, a skaven plague monk banner, beastmen gor shields and a green stuffed champion.
They're equipped with hand weapons and shields.
I also have a 5-men unit of chosen in the making. Great weapons.
- Khorne warriors. I've already ordered 40k khorne beserker bits. No ideas needed here.
Equipped with double one handed weapons. (a fluffy choice ;D)
- Slaanesh warriors.
Now this is the first part where I need your help...
I was thinking about using bare torsos from beastmen gors (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ts1HdLGjywM/TG2idEzFUHI/AAAAAAAAMtU/CblPhcxNu_4/s1600/Chaos_Warrior_Conversions.JPG), or perhaps even using some elegant elf/eldar bits. Ideas?
Thinking about shield + halberd combo. Whip instead of musician. Your opinions?
Needs to involve some bare skin, teeth and face shapes on armor, tentacles and an occasional boob.
EDIT : found it! http://th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2010/166/3/d/Champions_of_Slaanesh_by_MajesticChicken.jpg
- Tzeentch

Every time I see the title of this thread I imagine someone shouting it in the same way the stereotypicaly uncouth bloke would shout "show us your tits love". Is there something wrong with my brain?
I have to say that I concur. :P
Umm, should I change the title?
Give me some suggestions.
No, keep it, it's amusing. :P

I'd make quite a bit of the fur browner and darker, there's not that much contrast at the moment on the torso, neck and legs. Otherwise, they look really good.
As I said, they're WIP. ;)
The only thing which is more or less finished for now are the metal parts.
I've only started highlighting their flesh.
The fur is still going to wait a bit. I was thinking about black/gray and dark brown fur.
Who the portugal changed this thread title? One is not amused, or pleased in anyway.
I did.
In the dark future/past of Warhammer there is only war.
There's absolutely no time for sexual interpretations, jokes and healthy snacks.
Just war. Long, hard and dirty war.
Now.. wait a second...
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, vengeance! I shall have my vengeance, I shall treat you like a female member of the domesticated branch of your taxonomic family.
Edit: Just in case its not clear, I meant bitch.
They're looking good there Silver, particularly the right arm of the Blade Ogre. ;)
Thanks! :D
I'm hoping to finally finish these guys some time soon.

They look fine! Skaven are really tricky. It's hard to paint those rats.
I'd give them some washes and experiment with highlights.
Just try out all possible painting techniques, improve as much as you can and find a painting style which fits your army (from your own point of view - who cares about the rest?) before you move onto the rest of army.
I got impatient and painted a huge chunk of my Empire army before trying out all the possibilities. Now I regret that.
Ok then, I'll do that. Also what kind of rat ogres were those previously posted, they looked awesome.
They're from The Island of Blood starter set.
So you can't buy them in single blister packs instead of the whole isle of blood set?
Nope, but you can find them on ebay...
There's also a pretty nice warlord in the set which goes really cheap on ebay. I bought one for less than 2$.
Ah ok. When I need some more brutes in my army I might take a look :)
He's looking pretty kickass there Silver. :D I'll have to go crack out my ones to show off.
As an aside, I've never had to put the dismounted model on the field if I have Minaithir. No one's managed to kill that dragon. ;)
Not through any skill on my part, just a charmed life which has not failed over the years. :P
I wish the same for my griffon general. :)
But they're are significantly squishier, so that's probably not going be the case.
On a side note...
Just bought the new Tzeentch sorcerer. I couldn't resist.
Made an order.
I've ordered bits I need to finish Prince Raethelas, prophet of doom (flagellant champion), Nurgle BSB and a Slaanesh champion.
My friend bought some Vampire Counts skeletons to use as D&D miniatures, and also as painting practice before we paint our armies ;D .

Ahh, good old fashioned Dwarfs. Will we ever see their like again? :'(
Yes, and these guys were dirt cheap. I got them for 2£.
And here's a witchunter. I still need to scrape of that chaos icon and sculpt a codpiece.
I've finally found a solution.
I have to take pictures outside, during the day due to the fact that all light-bulbs in my house emit crappy yellowish light.
And the best thing is that my new, "better" camera can't compensate that.
Anyway, here it goes...
My WIP Slaanesh sorcerer.
A few small areas still need to be painted, but basically, he's just waiting for the last series of highlights.
And this is the finished version.
Except the base, which will be finished once I paint the whole army.

I should probably aim for straighter and more decisive brush strokes and more contrast.
Looks pretty good to me. :)
Yes, but it could have been better. ;)
I got a bunch of new models for Hetairos today :D
I spent a few hours last night having a go at painting a pre-production Sororitas Arcanum model:
I may just have missed something major, but - Sororitas Arcanum?
I like the model a lot though, very cool :)
A multi-part range of (mostly) female warriors in powered armour I've been working on.
Also, thanks!
I really like it.
The backpack looks a bit too "clean" for my taste, but the rest is just great.
I would probably add more rivets on the joints of armour. Especially on arms and legs. Those kind of tiny details make the whole miniature pop.
And if I may notice, they seem a bit bulkier than some other space nuns floating around... :P
I certainly agree on the backpack. In future revisions I plan on making them a bit smaller and adding more details. We had some format issues that meant they didn't get the once over by Stefan before going to print. Sadly we didn't have time to resolve them so it'll have to wait until the next generation of them. With any luck that won't be too long though as the prints we ended up with aren't as crisp as I'd have liked.
More rivets on the armour? Good idea!
They're entirely modular so each component should eventually get an upgrade or alternative further down the line. There's going to be non boob plate armour too in the near future for folks who prefer that setup. I've got a set of jetpack legs on the go too.
As for bulkiness I think I can see where you're coming from, at least if you're thinking of GW's old models from the 1990s. I've not had a chance to take a proper look at the Svarog ones yet so I'm not sure how mine stack up with theirs.
A question for you - would you like to see more figure-hugging armour? I can have a go at that if it's something you'd like to see! :)
I'll agree to the backpacks being bulky and the rivits, however I'm glad to see the bulky armor as opposed to the traditional latex with metal trim. It's armor fitting for a female marine in space. :D I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future for variation. :)
I also like the bulk in the armour. Finding good female wargaming figures in armour that looks tough and bulky rather than fitted but flimsy is surprisingly difficult, which I think is a selling point of these.
Cheers, guys. I've not shown these to many people so far and it's encouraging to hear that they're not dreadful!
I'm excited to make more, annoyingly so. That is to say I want to work on more designs right now but I need to focus on making production moulds (i.e. a whole load of models in one mould rather than just one set). Right now I can crank them out at about a sprue of three per half hour. Not exactly fast!
Heavy weapon models are done but not yet printed, same on special pistols (as opposed to the standard sidearms).
Hoping to get some time tomorrow to glue all my daleks together...
A Night goblin big boss with great weapon converted from an ancient orc archer (and a ton of weird bits I had laying around):

There's still some minor green-stuffing left to be done, but other than that it's mostly finished.
I do love a bit of night goblining. Devious little gits!

I have my scalpel in Cambridge; need to order some new modelling putty though, my old stuff is like six years old now :P
If you'd like I can bring you an inch or two of green stuff tomorrow? I was considering bringing some minis to give away anyway.
I mean, I think I'm going to have to do an order of such things from someone anyway soon, but if you have a bit going spare I'm happy to to take it off your hands/remunerate you for it if needs be. :)
Finally did some painting.
This is still WIP, there's still a lot work left and I need to get some yellow paint to actually finish it. :P

And finally, some changes I made to my night goblin BSB:

Cheers people!
The pet squig is cute :)
My girlfriend said the same.
She persuaded me to paint the extra boss for her as a gift (which I was planning to sell before that). :P
I have another pet squig, from fanatic sprue. Mounted on a base and painted and placed in a unit of 50 night goblins to make them less monotonous.
I'll remember to take the picture next time. ;D
I think a diorama of a squig pet shop would be amazing to make sometime :P
I can imagine it on a 60x40 base.
A base full of rocks, a tree and a cage or two in the back of the base.
Squigs jumping around, one squig hopper and two goblins running after them, completely unaware of the big squig behind them.
Classic orc humor. :P
Here's the second one, this time for my girlfriend:
I also fixed mine a bit, adding a few highlights. The matte varnish I used really soaked up some of the fine details, so I had to redo them.
Good squigglings, sir!
Here's what I've been up to:
I've always wanted one and now I have one:
It's a pterodactyl!
It's also a hot wire cutter. The design keeps the wire taut even when it expands due to heat. It also folds fairly flat for storage.
The power supply was the biggest hurdle but I managed to get a suitable amount of juice out of an ancient PC power supply that I had lying around.
So. Results. Yes.
Initial attempts:
(http://i.imgur.com/3eMhIoZl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/3eMhIoZ.jpg)
(http://i.imgur.com/ePLfDGTl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/ePLfDGT.jpg)
It won't display the last two pictures :(
I've always wanted to do that. ;D
I love those rocks. They remind me of the golden age of Warhammer.
Back when The White Dwarf magazine used to be filled with hobby articles and cool battle reports.
I especially like them painted orange, along with a few hills and craters. Like some sort of Mars-like desert planet or fantasy badlands.
Quote from: Jubal on August 17, 2015, 03:00:55 PM

Huh, weird...
I can see them both.
They've turned up now. Weird. IMGUR seems to be a bit erratic as an image host.
I was just getting into it when things like that still existed in 1998. Fairly soon after that I feel like it died on its arse :-\
There's one piece of terrain that really stands out to me. I really want to create something similar. This:
(http://i.imgur.com/gALC8wzl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/a/URZLI)
(Album with more pictures (http://imgur.com/a/URZLI))
I've got some estimates on the dimensions and now I have a foam cutter to make some sort of base. Maybe it'll finally happen?
Quote from: Jubal on August 17, 2015, 03:00:55 PM

They should also be links to higher resolution versions of the pictures. They're thumbnails generated by Imgur as whatever version of SMF we're using doesn't handle that sort of thing automatically.
Quote from: Jubal on August 17, 2015, 03:45:58 PMThey've turned up now. Weird. IMGUR seems to be a bit erratic as an image host.
I suspect the issue is more with your connection than their servers. They were built to handle Reddit after all (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imgur#History).
It's not my connection - it's my experience of using Imgur. Their server speeds seem fine when images do turn up - it's not a bandwidth issue or anything - but they often seem to be unreliable in just getting the damn images to load, I've no idea why.
On all machines or just your laptop? On all connections or just yours?
I ask because Imgur is the most stable image host I've ever used. The fact that so many wargamers still use the antiquated monstrosity that is Photobucket baffles me on a regular basis!
Actually Jubal, I'm using Photobucket.
And yeah, it's clunky.
I don't use any other machines really... it's entirely possible it's some software-end oddity or internet service provision issue on some level, but I'm sure it's not the connection speed and there's nothing singularly odd about my setup, so I imagine it could be something that affects a certain minority of users perhaps.
Hm - on further research, apparently the i.imgur.com domain reacts badly to some otherwise normally set up firewalls and DNS settings and suchlike. This is annoying, as all that sort of stuff in this house is under my Pa's thumb and he's too busy to get round to making tweaks like that if I want them.
SW: Yes, I can see all your pics, it's FK's that I'm having issues with!
My soon to be mounted Empire BSB.

Still waiting for some parts to arrive.
These two, to be exact:
Spoiler
(http://www.bitzbox.co.uk/images/space_wolves_pack_bare_head_8_large.jpg)
I'm going to scrape off the Blood Angel insignia from the banner. Possibly even some of those blood drops.
I don't see why companies insist on sculpting insignia onto banners, it looks weird when they're supposed to be a flat sheet of cloth!
Probably because it makes painting easier...
Sometimes it looks good too, but it is sort of weird.
I was going to take this Space marine company banner, but it was too expensive:
Why not jus make your banner from a wee bit of cloth or paper?
Did you always use the word "wee", Penty, or have you picked that up from spending too much time in Scotland? :P
Quote from: Pentagathus on August 18, 2015, 10:38:39 PM

I don't like the look of cloth and paper banners.
Plastic banners look much better in my opinion.
Plasticard is the only possible alternative for me.
A cloth one could surely look good if you stiffened the cloth? I can see why not having folds/wind effect would be bad, but I think if you treated the cloth right you could fix that. A plastic banner is probably simpler then doing that though!
Quote from: Jubal on August 19, 2015, 12:26:48 AMA cloth one could surely look good if you stiffened the cloth?
Not necessarily. Usually it ends up looking like a small scrap of fabric rather than a huge banner shrunk down.
As a greenskin player it's thankfully an easy issue to avoid!
Interesting. Why do you think that is? The size of the weave?
Something like that, yes. Perhaps a sufficiently thin micro-weave would look right but it seems a lot of effort to go to when green stuff or plastic works just as well.
As for why companies mould details onto banners that's an easy one. Free hand painting banners is pretty much an art form in and of itself. Moulded details can be painted in the same way as normal models.
I'm just the awkward type who never actually wants the moulded details because I've come up with some complex backstory that demands a new banner :P
A sharp knife and a file would be what the doctor prescribes then!
I would generally just buy a different plain banner - I'm too cack handed/impatient to make a neat job of filing off fine banner details!
The truck kit I've been creating continues to progress:
I'm looking forward to the next bit of the construction process as it's going to be pretty much exclusively detailing. Then I've got to design another two axles (as ideally I want the vehicle to be usable without the truck extension kit (http://'http://fox-box.co.uk/product/fox-box-orc-truck-extension-kit/')) and the canopy frame/roll bars.
They're not done yet but I've been enjoying working on them:

I bought a bunch of Reaper Bones miniatures for a relatively low price for my birthday.
They're pretty nice and they're made of some sort of highly bendable plastic polymer (which surprisingly works okay-ish with plastic glue, although slowly).
The only real complaints that I have are that they have a much lower sharpness of detail than the current GW plastics and that they're usually a bit taller than your average 28mm heroic scale miniature (usually one head taller, not much, but definitely noticeable if that bothers you).
These are the ones that I got:
(I'll post pictures when I paint some of them tomorrow or the day after)

A head taller is OK if you're using them as heroes or whatever I guess... and yeah, I can see they look a bit less sharp than some other equivalents, but they're generally nice looking models.
I want to get some paint from home so I can start on my DW model collection. :/
Every day's a good day when you paint. :)
Okay, this guy is mostly finished:
After taking these photos I figured out that he needs some additional contrast.
I'll make the folds in his robes darker. The armour plates look pretty bad too...
Maybe it's because of the weather and the lack of light, but it looks pretty awful on these pictures.
Aye. I'd almost be tempted to buy more paint here, but I've got tons back in Norfolk and really can't justify that. :(
I do all of my acrylic paintings with $0.50 craft paint from Wal-Mart. :)
I can't get acrylics anything like that cheaply here :/
A bunch of Reaper troll models.
They were pretty cheap, but they look good in my opinion.
Especially when you put some GW bits on them.
They are as big as BFSP troll when mounted on a base.
A bit more muscular, though.
Ooh nice
Look forward to seeing them painted :)
Here's some other stuff I'm working on:
A goblin boss. I don't like the way he turned out. Varnish ate up the highlights.

WIP night goblin shamans:
Gorlag Gobsmasha himself. I'm stuck with this guy. I just can't pick a colour scheme.
And a black orc BSB. Any suggestions what to do with this guy? He seems a bit bare.
Replace his sword with something less ridiculous?
Edit: Or is that a spikey club? Or a hedgetrimmer?
Definitely a hedgetrimmer :P
But I like the spike-sword! :P
I was thinking about giving him some sort of trophy rack. Maybe the 40k one with a squig?
I've been busy today. :D
I've built a few chukkas from scratch.
They're still work in progress, however.
I still have to finish the firing mechanism and add a few more details.
I'm quite satisfied with how they turned out.
Nice :) Orc war machines are pretty satisfying to make, not least because no matter how ramshackle they end up looking it only adds to the effect :P

I think I'll call them " Da Old Squeaky" and "Da Spiky Stabba".
I also took a few photos of my early Christmas present:

D'aww! :D
(I think it may be the effect of being brought up by an arachnologist that often how terrifying a monster is supposed to look is in inverse proportion to how cute I find it)
Is that a gw model? Most dragony dragon model I've ever seen.
It's actually an action figure called "Dragon fighter" manufactured by Schleich Toys.
http://www.schleich-s.com/en/US/toys/dragon_fighter/
I bought it at a local supermarket. It was on a major discount. ;D
It is pretty cool :)
I need to at some point basecoat all the things I have to paint, but there's never a clear dry day here at the moment and I have no suitable indoor spaces...
Painted for the advent challenge on Da Warpath forum:
Nice :)
I do wonder what that tiny skull is from. Snotling maybe?
It looks like a tiny bit smaller human head to me. It just looks tiny next to the goblins huge head. :P
Yeah, I guess my brain was thinking small goblin => small head => even smaller head on stick.
I need to buy painting equipment again...
A WIP shot of my giant cave squig conversion.
There's still a lot of sculpting left to be done...
Is that a triceratops/rhino head? I'm not even sure what that beast is, but I'm not sure it still counts as a squig... :P

Yes, it's a lizardmen stegadon head. :P
I've seen a few similar conversions, and I liked the result. It will look a lot more squiggy once it's properly painted. ;D
It reminds me more of the World of Twilight Grishak models:
Well, it does look very similar, I won't lie. ;D
I've painted an additional model for Da Warpath's Advent Challenge.

A very tiring model to paint, if I may add.
There's just too many tiny details which don't pop out as they should, no matter how you paint them.
Also, painting skulls and ropes gave me a headache. :P
I like his hat.

Hey guys!
I was thinking about assembling a unit of Nurgle chosen lately...
My first option is basing Nurgle blightkings on 25mm sqare bases like this:
http://i.imgur.com/5q6Ym4e.jpg
And the second (much more static) option is converting warriors with blightking plates, new heads/helmets and weapons:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k189/ankhiel/IMG_4495_zps2f61e70d.jpg~original
Which option do you prefer?
Remind me to never trust the weather again. I tried to basecoat some models today out the back of the house. Wasn't a bloody cloud in the sky, and then one tiny little grey cloud floated in and rained on them. And I mean literally tiny: it managed raining out the back of my house and it wasn't raining out the front. Bleeh. Oh dear.
Now that's just bad luck. :P
It's England. Shouldn't you know by now? :)
I made the mistake of being temporarily optimistic, CG. I will now go back to my usual state of extreme pessimism and apologising for grumbling about queues and drinking excessive quantities of tea :P
A work in progress of my Khorne knights.

Where did Star Trek colors come from? Was there a crossover comic our something? Otherwise red and white don't seem very Star Trekky.
Yes - I'm aware that it should be red and black, but I tried dabs of both and red and white turned out to look better on the models/the detail shows up better that way so I ran with that - sorry! :(
Red and black still doesn't seem it. I'm just curious about the origins.
Well, the idea of using red as the base colour was from ToS redshirts. Googling it and looking at different eras of uniform, I think my brain was remembering something along the lines of the uniforms in this clip and aiming for a similar aesthetic (though of course the armour design is different etc):
Ah of course. I never think of the ToS era movies when I think of uniforms. D'oh! :picard_facepalm:
Aye - I should really watch more Star Trek... but yes, when I looked it up I realised that's what I'd been thinking of! There should be a bit more red/white variation and intricacy when they're done too, though who knows when that'll be!

Screw it, I'm leaving that broken reply there as proof that there's something seriously screwy with the WYSIWYG interface. It randomly converts text to a different font and sets the size to that miniscule nonsense. It also adds erroneous linebreaks. Something to do with how it processes embedded images..?

I've been Nurgle-obsessed lately. :P
So here are a few early WIP pictures of my BSB, Mordenax the Hoarder:
And the palanquin lord, Glotheith Spinefroth:
I always found that Nurgle tended to come into his own as a chaos god in smaller settings like Mordheim somehow - I guess there you can get the full creepiness of it, whereas in big battles "disease" just isn't as dramatic as crackling Tzenteech-style magic or axe-waving Khornate hordes.
Yes, I agree. ;D
The smaller setting adds that note of survival horror to the story.
A small update.
This is my Nurgle sorcerer, based on Reaper bones' friar Stone:
And this is my unit of Nurgle warriors with great weapons, based on AoW Corrupters of the Apocalypse:
There are a few small conversions to fill out the voids, but nothing spectacular.
I never really noticed how big Orghotts Daemonspew is until I built the bugger.
He's practically ogre-sized.
I don't generally like the nurgle stuff, but your sorcerer looks pretty bitchin. I think the nurgle warriors are generally too cartoonish for me (as most of GW's models are.)
Am I right in remembering that Mordheim had a Nurgle-infested travelling fair as an army list at one point?
These look fantastic Wolf, the ogre size guy especially :)
@Jub, yup Nurgle's Carnival of Chaos is a thing.
Ah, yes, that was the one :) I used to use/look at a lot of non-standard and fanmade armies (I had a wonderful City Watch warband with an unofficial list in one MH campaign we did, went fully Terry Pratchett with it) so I sometimes forget whether I'm remembering a "real" list or not.
Sounds good, I made a pirates list which I used a few times.
I recall I had a norscan list that was pretty OP because it had a beserk werewolf geezer that could pretty much cross the board in turn one and also tear everyone up.
I think I remember dying brutally from that, yeah.
Oh, and here's a picture of my Warshrine:
I have some long term aim to try making a Sontaran war vehicle. I don't know whether to go for a walker or a sort of hovering turret-tank thing though.
Both of them sound cool.
I was going to say that you should go for the turret-tank, but on second thought, sentinel-like walker would also look very cool.
I need to get more Green Stuff and more time before I can sculpt anything, we'll see what I come up with then though!
I've been working on something for a YakTribe competition and this month's theme (http://'https://yaktribe.org/community/threads/yaktribe-competition-13-it-came-from-the.4663/') seemed right up my street (http://'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCxxbDfOGL4&feature=youtu.be&t=70').
Some years ago we wrote a Halloween scenario entitled "Frankenork (http://'http://gorkamorka.co.uk/experimental/orktober-halloween-frankenork/')" that was accompanied by a brilliant illustration by Clayton Tait:
I'm not sure if I'm good enough at sculpting to do it justice yet but I think I'm probably far enough along to give it a go!
So, basic parts:
Miscast legs, miscast torso (both my own sculpts)
Using the legs as a base I've started on a new set of legs. I thought I took some intermediary shots but apparently not - these are still going to be redone in a while. The general idea is to block out the approximate proportions and try to get the scale right:
You might notice that the monster only has nine toes. Check the illustration...
Lots more reworking still to be done but the general build is coming together:
Work continues :D
Looks fantastic so far bud, and that is such a good concept as well.
Very nice :D
I've been working on something for a competition over on YakTribe (https://yaktribe.org/community/threads/yaktribe-competition-13-it-came-from-the.4663/).

That's gorgeous, well done :D
Have you considered adding suitable music to your turntable videos? I feel like the current video style plus music and possibly some nicely done titles (model name at the start/fox box logo end) would end up with something quite attention-grabbing. It may not be worth the time of course, but something to consider.
I was considering it but time was against me on that one. The deadline for the competition was today. I emphasise "today" because I don't know when today! I was uploading the video at five in the morning (BST?) and so considered tracking down some suitable music, adding some titles, etc.. but sleep beckoned.
I was asleep a little after six and it turned out I had a dental checkup at 1030. Oops. Well my teeth are apparently healthy so that's excellent!
The other caveat with this model is that I don't have permission to release it commercially. I'm going to see if I can get permission though!
Yes, sounds a rather hectic rush! May be something to think about for future regular Fox Box released though :)
Hope you get permission to release it commercially - is it that you need permission from the original artist for the concept essentially?
Quote from: Jubal on May 09, 2016, 10:31:17 PMHope you get permission to release it commercially
I hope so too! Either way though it'll be useful as a basis for some large Orc models.
Quote from: Jubal on May 09, 2016, 10:31:17 PMis it that you need permission from the original artist for the concept essentially?
No - concepts aren't protected by intellectual property law. The model is a
direct adaptation of his artwork - it's not inspired by it or anything like that. The goal in creating it was to make a derivative work.
Right, yes, sense maketh :)
I love the way he looks.
The only thing that could use some improvement is his back.
I think that the muscles need some definition, especially the upper part...
That's kinda funny - I actually added putty to cover up the definition! Originally he had virtually raw musculature on there:
(http://i.imgur.com/S9nN9crl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/S9nN9cr.jpg)
(http://i.imgur.com/7TsxabZl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/7TsxabZ.jpg)
Looks badass, like if Orks did WWE :D

I actually prefer the old version. :P
Good to know!
There will be other torsos and perhaps I'll leave them as raw muscles :)
The next thing using this sculpt will be a warboss scale model inspired by Immortan Joe 8)
My Nurgle sorcerer on daemonic mount:
There's still a lot of work left on it, but so far it turned out to be just the way I imagined it. ;D
Nice work! :)
My Nurgle palanquin:
Spoiler

The angle is a bit weird, but the Nurgling pile is pretty tall (around 3cm, so a bit taller than an inch).
I just need to fill the seams with greenstuff, sculpt a few things here an there and add a few final nurglings.
Ideas and criticism are always welcome. ;)
How are you going to do the back of the seat paint-wise? It looks very un-busy compared to the base level of the model I guess, and unlike the front of the seat you haven't got the actual lord to stand out against it.
I've made some wood grain on the that plasticard panel (both in front and in the back), but it's hard to see it in the pictures since they're a bit too bright.
But I could use some ideas...
But I don't want to add too much details either, since simplicity was always a Nurgle-y thing in my opinion.
I guess you could use the paint job to make it look more stained/mouldy/licheny?
I've actually remembered that I have an unassembled box of chaos knights and that they have this icon:
So I've replaced the icons... This one is much bigger and covers most of the free space on that panel.
Just a small update.
I've managed to get 20 Bloodreavers (Khorne marauders) and 5 Blood warriors (Khorne warrriors) for 12 pounds.
A glorious day. ;D
Did you need to donate blood for the blood God to get such a sweet deal?
Not yet.
That's what I'm worried about...
The Gods of Chaos work in mysterious ways. :P
I've ordered some new Green Stuff so may have something to post here soon :)
Go Jubal! ;D
Do you have any specific project in mind? Or are you going to go and sculpt like you're a block of butter melting on a hot August day? :P
I don't know - I have an ambition to try sculpting a vehicle for my Sontaran squad, and I'd like to try a couple more 12th century figures from my period of study. We'll see :)
I vote for the 12th century figures, would be cool to what you study in miniature people format.
It's taken several years but at long last I have 30 Shoota Boyz (click for higher resolution images):
(http://i.imgur.com/naKVE3zl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/naKVE3z.jpg)
Head coverings and accessories are the theme as you've no doubt guessed. Yes that is a pink tiara at the back and there's also a rather obscure reference in there too (http://youtu.be/4OlHW5bhPJY?t=264).
Whilst taking the photos I took the opportunity to snag a few promo images for my products too:

As I really need to get some good photos on the front page of my site soon. The way I have it setup at the moment is a bit of a shambles!
Now I've started on an Ork Nob to lead the unit. Top hat, I'm thinking. Perhaps a waistcoat too.
They look great, good stuff!
Well, I have now been introduced to Charlie Chalk and feel slightly less sure of my sanity than I did a few minutes ago.
(Also, friendly reminder that the youtube tag doesn't need ' or " marks, just put the URL in directly as is :) )

I love Charlie Chalk. I still have a VHS tape from when I was a child. This may explain many things...

I pasted the message from another forum. Each system has to introduce a bit of variety for reasons best known to the gods. Anyway, it was a URL tag ;D

I wanted to make him vaguely make sense so he has an ammo pal thingy (https://www.ammopal.com/) on his belt and a strap for his shotgun to allow for one-handed operation :)
He has an almost film noir look to him, excellent :D
Cheers!
I'm pleased with my recent attempts to clear a few things from my plate. I really want to get some Gorkamorka going so the pressure is on to finish some outstanding projects!
Anyway, here's the Shoota Boyz with details on each one:
(http://i.imgur.com/jlBHP7al.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/jlBHP7a.jpg)
From left to right:
1. Ork with Big Shoota - originally based on a conversion from the third edition 40K Ork codex I decided to combine two Adam Baldwin characters and ended up with this lad.
2. A new shoota - to me at least. The third ed. plastic Ork boyz didn't have that design!
3. Bayonets were another new thing the newer version of the Ork Boyz sprue introduced.
4. Another custom hat - an army helmet with the classic 'Nam Ace of Spades tucked into it. Bit of conversion work on the shoota too.
5. A new head but an old arm. Back in the day Stikk Bommas were a separate unit and had metal arms that were compatible with the standard plastic sprue. Dat'z one of 'em! The shoota is a combination of a slugga, shoota, and the extra magazine on the new Ork Boy sprue.
(http://i.imgur.com/pZaScbhl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/pZaScbh.jpg)
6. Past me named this guy "Da Kraftsman" but I cannot for the life of me remember why. His weapon is a standard shoota extended with a plastic tube and wrapped with dental tape. The reticule is from the Lootas sprue. The taped mags are the spare mags from the sprue. The chain is just greenstuff.
7. This guy isn't the prettiest but he's 100% my own work. The shotgun, the head, the legs, the arms, yep. Pretty proud of that. A Fox Box basic Orc head, Brute torso, shotgun, and basic Orc legs.
8. Another of my shotguns although the rest, including the arms, I think, is stock. The head is from the Ork Warbiker sprue.
9. Another mag swap and some sort of mess of a helmet!
10. It's a kilt. An old sculpt I did for when I lived in Scotland and the missus came to visit. He was an experiment in painting with washes. It didn't really work out but I'm keeping him, damnit.
(http://i.imgur.com/mQSMqtyl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/mQSMqty.jpg)
11. A G.R.O.S.S. inspired paper hat, some jaws on the shoulders, a Warhammer Fantasy torso, and a couple of drums joined to form a Beta-C mag. The rest of the shoota is custom.
12. A Kromlech Orc head and a Ramshackle Games cast of my shotguns (not my arms).
13. My head sculpts today aren't the best but they've come a long way. This is one of my very old head sculpts that I never released. The arm is from the Battlewagon sprue, the torso is from the Mek in the Lootas box I think. The shoota is a combination of two sluggas, some tubing, and another drum mag.
14. Another full sculpt! My version of the single-barrel shotgun and a jester's cap. I love wearing those things.
15. A Loota head that I rather like, Ramshackle Games' version of my shotgun (the arm sculpted by the marvellous Curtis Fell), another of those metal stikkbomb arms, a Gorkamorka plastic Ork Boyz stikkbomb, and a spare shotgun shell from another project (full brass).
(http://i.imgur.com/eWOuAKXl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/eWOuAKX.jpg)
16. This head was in my bitz box with lots of parts carved off. Not sure what happened to it but I did a bit of basic rebuilding and added the "Manik" glyph (meaning "Insane"). The shoota is one of my Fox Box Create-a-Shoota ones.
17. Full Fox Box parts plus a fairly badly sculpted dunce's cap. The shoota is another Create-a-Shoota jobby.
18. Slugga, plastic tubing, dental tape, and a spare mag from the Ork Boyz sprue. The torso is a brilliant one from the Ork Warbikers kit, and the head is from Puppets War.
19. I've always been rather fond of The Sniper's Bloke's Bucket Hat from Team Fortress 2. The rest is stock Fox Box stuff.
20. One of the currently unreleased Create-a-Shoota v.2 builds (although the barrel is out there). The head is stock but with a cut-down Ork Boyz iron gob and a flat cap.
(http://i.imgur.com/92dT4hll.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/92dT4hl.jpg)
21. Trader Jones from Charlie Chalk. Yep. That's his hat. The shoota is one of my Fox Box Create-a-Shoota and the legs are my Basic Orc legs.
22. Another unreleased Fox Box Create-a-Shoota v.2 builds. The head is a basic one with a Bart Simpson-inspired red cap. Yeah, that doesn't come up that much anymore but trust me, it was a thing.
23. Another one of my really old Orc Shotguns. Calvin waited forever for that propellor beanie and it didn't even fly.
24. More new Create-a-Shoota bitz and a bucket that turned out reasonably well. The lettering is dreadful but I'm quite pleased with the Col. Sanders.
25. Why not mix things up and go with a pair of my Orc Revolvers. I really need to get those in production again. He, like no. 3 is another 100% my own work jobbie.
(http://i.imgur.com/Nry8ePal.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/Nry8ePa.jpg)
26. Mostly stock but a Ramshackle Games cast of my Stryker-style Orc shotgun. The wraps on the arms are dental tape.
27. New bitz! New bitz! I really love these new Create-a-Shoota bitz. The head is from the biker sprue with a hair squig topknot (probably nicked from the head on Ork no. 9).
28. GW Power Klaw, Gorkamorka Nob back banner, Fox Box legs and Brute torso. The head is also a Fox Box one but I decided to have a go at rebuilding it for fun. It kind of turned out like a Rogue Trader era sculpt and for once I think that's actually a good thing. The waistcoat and hat were obviously added by me, as was the strap. The shotgun is a cut-down Ramshackle Games version of my double-barrel shotgun (predecessor to Ork no. 19's shotgun). Reloading that one-handed could be tricky so I added an Ammo Pal-style shell dispenser and shoulder strap for the shotgun.
29. Aaaall me here. Including the hot pink tiara. I discovered that my hot pink paint had dried up the other day and found that GW don't sell anything anywhere close. Odd. I didn't buy it from them initially but I assumed they'd have something appropriate for Chaos players. Apparently not. Oh and the shoota is another Fox Box Create-a-Shoota in case you hadn't guessed.
30. One of the earliest builds in the squad. The shoota's receiver and magazine are just greenstuff and his arms have dental tape on 'em. The head is a modified stock GW Ork head. I'm really not fond of the original as it has those goofy teeth that never looked good to me. It's a chamber pot on his head, by the way, not a teacup! I can't say I've ever painted pink flowers on anything else before...
I've had a short creative outburst these last few days before the exams (as always).
So I made a Nurgle herald, but the pictures aren't that good:

There isn't much to be seen but I kind of like them.
Both guys needed some serious sculpting and I think that it turned out okay-ish, considering that I didn't take my time and rushed the job.
I hate nurgle stuff but the sorcerer looks cool.
The Nurgle sorceror looks particularly good, very horseman of the apocalypse in style :)
I now have some Green Stuff! It's in the freezer until I have time to use it...
Got tired of my old Nurgle BSB, so I made a new one yesterday.
And here he is (still WIP though):
(http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y499/0_SilverWolf_0/Warhammer/Nurgle_BSB_WIP%202_zpsspg3rkp5.jpg)(http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y499/0_SilverWolf_0/Warhammer/Nurgle_BSB_WIP%201_zpsehozvzfk.jpg)
I've ordered a few new washes and a few technical paints.
I'm very excited about Nihilakh oxide which gives bronze a very nice aged look and the Thyphus corrosion, which is sort of chalky wash that looks like corrosion, especially when drybrushed wih orange paint afterwards.
Hello!
Time for my decenial contribution to the forum 😁
Recently starting with AoS (like literally yesterday)
Have accually never played or painted any form of tabletop minatures before.
Starting with Stormcast Eternals cause golden armor looks cool duuh!
Sooo.. this is my first paintjob ever, should i throw it in the bin or is it a ok start?
This is mainly for testing, shading and drybrushing and all stuff in between is completley new to me so dont be to harsh, but still honest! 😅

Aa, sorry it took me a few days to look at this! It's nice to see you! :)
I'm no expert but I think it looks pretty great :) I was never at all a good miniature painter so shading and drybrushing was beyond me to begin with, but I'd say you're clearly better than I ever was purely on the grounds that there aren't any obvious paint flecks on bits of the model that shouldn't have them!.
