A list of good links and companies. This is for communities, companies, and modelling/painting stuff: for inspiration, how to run RPGs, blogposts, world building, etc, try the other thread (https://exilian.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6524.0).
MAJOR PUBLISHERS, COMPANIES, ETC
Games Workshop; Warhammer Section (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/landing.jsp?catId=cat1290033&rootCatGameStyle=wh)
Obvious one, this is the online store and article repository for Warhammer.
Mantic Games (https://www.manticgames.com/)
Another largish game miniature maker and publisher, notable for their Kings of War wargame.
INDIE MINIATURES
Heresy Minatures (http://www.heresyminiatures.com/)
An excellent UK-based minatures store, some good figs (Van Halfling is a classic) and insanely cheap greenstuff, looking at their prices you will NEVER buy it from GW again.
Hassle Free Minatures (https://hfminis.co.uk/)
Another good minis site if you want some variation form the GW regular stuff.
Irregular Miniatures (http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/)
Really huge variety of historical miniatures in particular, including from lots of ancient and medieval armies from Europe & the Middle East in particular.
Punga Miniatures (https://pungaminiatures.com/)
Some brilliant GW alternative minis, especially for fantasy football style games or if you are a fan of rat-folk.
Ramshackle Games (https://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/64-fox-box)
A good site for SF style minis, including the Fox Box Orks/Gobbos range, biker dwarves, etc.
Black Tree Design (https://eoeorbisuk.com/)
Notable for doing all the minis for the old Doctor Who Miniatures Game, so certainly the best place to find classic whovian stuff much of which is good for other sci-fi gaming. Also a good historical line.
RULES SUPPLEMENTS, COMMUNITIES, ETC
The Hammer and Anvil (http://talismancy.com/hammer/portal.php)
The Hammer and Anvil is an awesome site for fan-made rules and units, their 'sealed works' are easily the most compehensive and well-tested fan rules on the 'net, andhe gus on the fourm have masses of experence. Definiely worth a visit.
Miniature Wargaming (https://miniaturewargaming.com/)
This site has links to a vast array of free rules supplements for historical and other forms of wargaming: it's probably the best database online for free tabletop wargaming rules.
MODELLING, CONVERTING AND PAINTING
The Forum of Doom (http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php)
One of the best places on the 'net for minatures and converting
Things to Make and Do; Sculpting/Modelling (http://www.things-to-make-and-do.co.uk/sculpting-and-modelling/sculpting-and-modelling.html)
This site doesn't have much on it, but the face sculpting tut is one of the best anywhere...
http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/ (http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/)
25mm is what we use in warhammer. These models are cheap and I prefer the look of them to most of GW's stuff these days. Some of them look a bit dodgy but their painting team isn't exactly on the same level as the 'eavy metal team.
Good find - and the prices are quite nice too. Not sure about the lack of pictures of most models there though...
Yeah, I'm not sure if that's becuase they don't want to clutter the site with pics or becuase they don't have pictures. Or becuse the models are armadillo.
I might order a load of Dwarfs to convert, since they're pretty cheap. Even if the models are crap they'll be fine as back rank filler.
I wasn't too keen on the crossbows but the other dwarfs looked pretty decent. I'm going to use their historical models for my Norse warband, the early german archers look pretty decent.
Yea... their sculpting doesn't look to be up to Heresy or Hasslefree standard, but the models are cheap and non-GW. I'll probably place an order as soon as I remember to get some moeny out the bank.
Hang on, ins't WHFB 28mm not 25?
Yeah but they don't have 28mm.
Not much point having a whole army a head shorter than everyone elses on the other hand...
that is a good point which is why i have purchased the Empire Militia set for my reiklanders
after looking at hasselfree human models i get the feeling the sculptor is a tad pervy
Yea, he's a damn good sculptor though.
true
and OMG someone has quoted me in their sig on TWF (http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/index.php) [the warhammer forum]
this is what they put in their sig

Is this site dead ? I've tried to access it a few times before, but I've had no results...

Anyone know of a good site for buying beast men?
Hmmm well the Warstore and um Wayland Games are both good ways to get GW stuff cheaper than in store. Unless of course you meant non-Citadel models in which case I'm sorry but I'm blank.
I suppose you could browse Ebay. There's always stuff on Ebay. :D
Yeah, Ebay can be dodgy though :P. ill try the sites you mentioned. hopefully they have Skaven as well (hybrid bulls rats would be cool :D)
Wayland games is far better than the warstore. lots more things, its all in pounds though :P. The main problem is that apparently you cant get the sets shipped to Australia :/ and when i checked the prices they actually aren't that different :P
One of the best basing tutorials I've seen lately.
Mantic's Chaos dwarves look great.
http://lastchancewar.blogspot.com/2012/02/army-showcase-chaos-dwarfs.html
And they're also a bit cheaper than GW.
I still liked the old style GW big hats :P
Even GW abandoned those though...
Alternative models for Middenland/Middenheim armies.

Three epic battle reports.

The Battle of Hel Fenn (Mannfred Von Carstein vs Empire and Dwarfs). 20,000 points per side

And an awesome 40k video report (Blood Angels vs Tyranids)
Dear gods this is old and needs an update. Thoughts on things that should be on the list very welcome!
I could jump in next week, should have some free time finally.
That'd be neat, thanks!
Just dug up a link to Irregular Miniatures which I'd forgotten existed, so added them to the list.
There's this site I used recently which have some brilliant GW alternative minis (esp. fantasy football style games or if you are a fan of skaven). I'll let you vet it & decide if it's worth adding to the list
https://pungaminiatures.com/ (https://pungaminiatures.com/)
Duly added! :)
Also added
- Mantic, who weren't on there
- Ramshackle, who now sell Fox Box (formerly of this parish) stuff
- Black Tree Design, who do the classic DW minis range (though they look like they're now half rebranded/part of some other company?)
