Apparently we're not getting Season 10 until 2017, essentially there is Too Much Sportball this year and so we don't get any Doctor Who, which seems rather unfair really :(
Anyway, we have like a year to speculate, so go go go! :P
I guess the main questions are:
a) What will the new companion be like?
b) Will Capaldi stay on to Season 11 (I really hope he does personally)
c) Who will replace Capaldi if he doesn't?
d) Any plot speculation? One imagines that Moffat will have to be forcibly dissuaded from blowing up the whole DW universe in his last season finale...

d) I suspect they'll kind of leave that - I can imagine Gallifrey coming up again since he did the whole forcibly removing the high council and they're probably pissed at him. I can imagine Moffat doing one more really big twist to finish his tenure, either a) re-establishing the Time Lords in their proper place (and thus S11 and onwards operating a little more like Classic Who for the time being) and/or b) if Capaldi leaves, combine that with creating the Valeyard.

You Brits are horribly inefficient at TV. :P We have to wait over a year for only another TEN or so episode series? And does anyone remember Sherlock or has that one been in production so long it's become a myth? :P
Star Trek used to roll out 24 one hour episode seasons every year like clockwork (not you Clockwork). There was a point in time when three different series were running simultaneously. Just saying. :)

Doctor Who used to run more on that basis before the Great Hiatus. These days the expenditure on the show is a lot compared to what the Beeb can afford, which is the main reason the seasons are so damn short, they wouldn't have the budget to do the special effects for that many episodes.
Then don't do so many effects.
I agree - I'd like to see less SFX and more episodes.
Basement dwelling nerds can do these effects in their free time, there's no reason to spend so much money on them.
once peer-to-peer rendering is a thing, I'm sure that'll happen.
I mean they can hire somebody like that at meager wage instead of large corporate visual effects crap.
Yeah I get you all I meant was that once p2p rendering is a thing, you'll be able to pretty much outsource VFX to a bittorrent like client and get premium VFX at a fraction of the cost in a fraction of the time. I wasn't being snarky or anything this is a thing that's in the works, I'm guessing next 5 years or so.
