basically we need a map
heres a picture of the map from the book

If you would like to work on it work on python and the module system with the map.
it would be better if we only use the module_system for creating the map, i know, difficult, but better
I have to admit I have no idea how you make a map in the Module_system.
me too :cyclops:
but we can learn ;)
I'm going to put in a recriutment for a mapmaker on the front page
You need to make the map in map editor (the modulesystem can't make the base heights and terrains map). The cities need to be moved with the ModuleSystem, which is done by pressing the z key in map editor, then hover over where you want the place to go, there will be co-ordinates at the bottom left of your screen.

really?, oh than we've to do that :)
I'd love to do the map, if my MapEditor would just work.
How urgent is it? I wouldn't be averse to making a base map for you at some point, if you can wait a week or two until I have time...
would be nice :D
Would be great! PM me for details.

That's the map we need! The Alagaesia; Total war!- group are going to use it as well.
I've started a bit of work on this. Screenies sometime soon perhaps, although I'm just doing the rough outlines and major features at the moment.
You will actually be able to get into Farthen Dur via a tunnel on the map, by the way. I've been wanting to try that for ages.

Is the tunnel going to be behind a waterfall. Do you go to a scene with the entrance to Farthen Dur or do you access it straight from the map?
I'm doing it so it's not behind a waterfall and is on the main map, on the grounds that making scenes that work that way would be horrendously complex, certainly for the AI. Strategically used map icons could be important here; for most of the cities we can use cave entrance icons or something rather than the usual town icons, which would look better.
It would look awesome!
BTW Tarnag is the only dwarf city to be above the ground.

When you're inside is there gonna be networks of dwarven tunnels or completely hollowed out mountains
I have an idea but 1st is it possible to change the map in-game??
for example we have map.txt(surface) & map2.txt(underground) & there's an icon in map.txt that pop up a menu with:
"go to the undegrounds"
"go back"
if you choose to go underground, is it possible to have a script tell the game to search for the map in map2.txt instead of map.txt??? (if yes then we could also make parties2.txt & then we'll have other towns & armies underground)
ps: I think it can be done because of item_kinds1.txt which means maybe there can be item_kinds2, 3 etc ??

:o :o really, this is possible???
That would be shockingly awesome! And now that I did a bit of research, it is possible!
FU*K YERAAAAAAAAH!!! hehe sorry but I got really excited :D
so do we use this method?? if yes then when the script is done just tell me & I'll start on the icons & the scene of transition also we should tell Jubal to make two maps (surface/underground).
I nearly forgot : if it works we shouldn't tell anybody about it till the release we might just say in Taleworld's thread that we have a big surprise. ;)
ok :D :D :D so excited too
I have bad experience with .txt files, so I can't really help in this.
I don't think it'll be done in the txt files.
actually all we have to do is to find where the txt files are refferenced & then create a script that will allow us to switch between 2 files.
should be the start script...
Sounds amazing. Definitely don't mention this in the TW thread. Lets get them excited, by calling it a huge surprise.
This could be revolutionary if this works.
QuoteOk, so there's item kinds1.txt, and item kinds2.txt. Item kinds2.txt is rarely used in M&B, but at least RoK (rise of the khergits), TLD and Chronicles of Talera had it. There's a script called the "Switch tuple", which tells the game to switch between the two .txt files. I'm not sure of the construct of the switch tuple, and all I can advise you to do is ask someone who's more experienced with them.
..
That's the info I got from my sources.
If you can do this, I will be honoured to make you a second map for below ground.
I'm kinda busy at the moment.
We really need another scripter on our team!
THIS MOD WILL BE GREAT!!!
Geez, tell us something we don't know!
Baby echidnas are called puggles?
