I just got the release candidate for windows 7 installed on my second hard drive, and let me tell you I love it. The look and feel are "trendy" and will probably be liked by most people, while it still holds most of the enthusiast values. I installed mount&blade on it too, we shall see how well it runs on the 64-bit version of W7 tomorrow.
As you can see Windows 7 is quite stylish, and its environment makes everything feel just one click away.
I was impressed by the "Action Center" feature in the pictures below, it tells you when things happen and what you should do for your computer quite intelligently from what I have seen.
UAC (User account control) is quite friendly now and not so much the annoying useless program it is in Vista, it has been implemented for safety and can now be switched off easily.
All in all I think Microsoft scored a point with the OS, one step closer to world domination, but if world domination looks this good.. then I am allllll for it.
Oh, btw I was using Windows 7 when I wrote this and it has a nifty little program which I used to take the pictures below, even more win. So far the only thing I haven't liked is the lack of flash player 10 for W7, but that is just because it is a beta.

Yea, sounds good certainly.
It looks good ... I cannot completely use the power of my computer as long as I have XP installed... For some reason it recognizes only 3 gigs of ram, but I have got 4 :-/
silverwolf: that is actually a programming thing, it will notice more than 3, but you've got to mess with the registry
I know.... I know stormcloud ... I'm not retarded :D
Tis called "64-bit"
:D
Oh, and as for compatibility, most* programs I have run on W 7 run BETTER than on my Vista-32bit... and I have 64-bit W 7. Amazingly cool if you ask me.
Mount and blade runs great, and I think a bit faster too. But W 7 is like 10X faster than vista and I am not joking.
All in all I think I will be moving to W 7 to play most of my games on hehe.
*A few REAAAAAAAALLLY old ones didn't run perfect, but they did run and were workable/playable.
Having played around with it, I quite like it, and may move to it should XP ever become obsolete. For now, XP 64-bit and Linux Mint serves me fine.

My dell came with vista, which while not as bad as most people say it is vista is not as good as xp. So if I can upgrade to W7 for around 100 bucks I probably will. Plus rumor has it you can upgrade from vista to w7 for around 50 to 80 $.. of course that might not be true.
Installed the RC on my main machine as the fourth OS I have on there (the others are XP, Linux Mint and Ubuntu), and it seems quite nice. Haven't played around with it much yet, but I have resurrected the memories of what a pain in the arse it is having to install drivers for your hardware to get it to work properly.

Yeah. Nvidia GFX card drivers are sometimes a pain, my 8800GT had a faulty driver on it because Nvidia screwed so I had to delete all the drivers manually and then reinstall the newest one. After that my card wouldn't randomly seem like it was overheating by showing artifacts.
Oh, here is a link for drivers if anyone needs it. (hehe)

Having played around with it some more I'm liking it more and more. The new toolbar, while disorientating at first, is quite nice to use, and the way it so gracefully logs in is nice as well. I haven't had any trouble running any of my apps on there (except the software for my mp3 player, which needs WMP 11, I have WMP 12. How hard is it to make a line of code say: >= WMP 11?).
So far so good. When 7 comes out I won't be buying it though, since XP does me fine for my Windows needs. If a cheap or free copy lands in my lap I may go for it.
So, how is it?
It's nice, and plays nicely with my games so far. :)
