Title: Paper on Mkhargrdzeli/Zakarian Kingship claims
Post by: Jubal on July 27, 2024, 08:55:47 AM
A paper in which I argue that "I am the king" doesn't mean as a statement all the things people sometimes assume: that in the medieval Caucasus, "kingship" did not necessarily mean rejecting the idea of also being a king's vassal, and therefore did not mean chasing some idea of "independence" outside a system when being within a royal system could provide significant access to prestige and regional networks.

Thoughts welcome if anyone has any :)
