Title: Techpocalypse Now (Cybersecurity chatter thread)
Post by: Jubal on October 23, 2026, 08:16:28 PM
As separate from though obviously closely related to the Slopping Forecast, cybersecurity I guess may be increasingly something we need to chat more about.

I was interested in this interview from The Atlantic (https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/2026/10/man-who-saved-internet-php-vulnerability/689123/?gift=nwn-guseqS6cY1kVeEKZAV4eM30ZQanhnWOnf22yy-c&utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share) about one of the guys fixing tons of PHP packages after this week's big security breach. Very much that XKCD comic about half the world's tech being held up by one guy in a shed somewhere.

Yes, I want to avoid writing an identical essay to the one I wrote in that thread.

I'll shorten by simply saying, anyone who thinks AI has 'peaked' or that productivity gains from its use in coding are minor, or that coding speed is irrelevant needs to take a very close look at what is happening here.

I'll just link another video for now
