I'm off on holiday for two weeks on Friday, I don't know if there's any internet so I will most likely be inactive for that time
Just so you know
********************
Edited Post the time period of your absence here if you want.
O, thanks for telling us, have a great trip :) . In about a week, il be on holiday for 2 weeks as well. I think il still have internet though but less time.

Quote from: "Stormcloud"i am going on holiday to portugal tomarrow the 19 of july (now that schools out!!! :D )
so i will not be on exilian for a week, just to let you know!!

Hello, I'm back :D
just so you know
DD, Penty, and Myself are saying goodbye from 2nd-10th of August! We'll be doing watersports in France w/ school (I've never sailed before either! w00t!).
Don't make a mess of the place or flood the forums with porn while I'm away, kiddies, and KEEP POSTING!
remeber not to post porn unless you e-mail it to us first before someone removes it :D
Shush! Official moderation procedure is supposed to reamina secret!

You mean you people are real and know eachother outside of the internets?!!!?!?! :zegun:
ummm yeh
You realise about a third of the members of this site come from about a 20 mile square area in South Norfolk, right?
I knew you knew each other from school, it's been impled before, didn't know you where from south Norfolk though
but the internet is make believe, like elves gremlins and eskimos
i think eskimos are real but they prefere to be called inuits
it was a joke, homer simpson said something like it once
nuh uhh, one Eskimo tribe is Inuit so calling them Inuit is like saying they're all from the same tribe, they are called Eskimos
We were taught that Eskimo was a derogatory term made up by the French, and that Inuit was the only correct term for them...
meh
have a good trip :)
yeah, have fun ;)
yeah do have a good trip
but have you never watched QI?
But the vast majority of Canadian "Eskimos" actually are Inuit (that word is a plural; the singular is Inuk); the small proportion who identify as Inuvialuit see themselves as a subset of the Inuit, so don't mind being referred to as Inuit.
In Alaska they don't mind the E-word. Most Alaskan Eskimos are Yup'ik (of whom the Alutiiq are a subset; Alutiiq was the language Stephen spoke on the show although it was misidentified as Aleutian). There are some Inuit, and also the Unangan or Aleuts. That last group are strictly speaking not Eskimos - they prefer the term "the Eskimo/Aleut people".
The indigenous people of Greenland are Inuit, although they prefer the term Kalaallit. They don't object too much to "Greenlanders", but like their Canadian cousins they don't like the E-word.
So while they are all Eskimos, they dont like being called it. They are defiantly not all Inuit

Doesn't really compare.
Missing Glastonbury Festival for you lovely people. ;)
(actually, no. I'm missing it to complete college work)
But from early July, I'll be off working in festivals around the country. Now if only my tent zip would work properly, I may not drown.
Quote from: "Marcus"Now if only my tent zip would work properly, I may not drown.
It's always a good thing to not drown. Especially while in a tent.
I know, the bloated corpse you leave behind isn't a pleasant morning sight for your neighbours.
*poke* "Mommy!! Mommy!!!! "What is it?" "This man is all.. squishy!!" *Poke poke poke*
I'm going on vacation ! I'll be back in a week

Adios!
I'm going to be in France until sunday guys :D
Back, though I'm away from about 5ish until late Sunday on a short Lincolnshire trip.
For a bit over a week I'm away in Wales. If anyone could take a poke round TWH, TWC, the Org, TW, MBX, MFB, and Modrealms to check over their EG preparations (or lack of such) from time to time that would be very much appreciated.
Ok, I'll try. :)
Back, please bear with me as I catch up.

You're in Dubrovnik, Croatia ?! Are you serious :D ?
Ya, I'm serious. Actually going to visit the city tomorrow (Sunday was so wet we didn't bother and today we went on an organised trip to Korcula). :D
Oh, Korcula is beautiful ... I've spent most of my childhood vacations there ...
I wish I could go there, but I'm on completely opposite part of the country...
Yeah, you live in/near Slavonski Brod right?
Yeah I live in Slavonski Brod... Are you going to visit Zagreb or Rijeka?
What's the occasion, double-poster-man?
I have removed the second post... And yeah, what's the occasion ?
Family holiday. :)
And no, we're sticking round Dubrovnik, Korcula's as far north as we'll be going this time.
I'm usually there around August during my summer brake...
My activity will be very limited up to Weds as I am away visiting my sister. :)
Have fun!
Haz funs!
No need for that spam person :P
What spam person? ;)
Limited access for me this week, I'll be staying with aunt & uncle in Norwich most of the time. Might be able to post occasionally via phone.
So we shouldn't guess you on the who will guess next thread, huh?

Sure you do mate. Farewell.
BTW I just thought I'd post for her,
Ladyhawk is going camping with her family for a week and will therefore not be on until next Saturday I think.
Anyway, carry on,
We can't carry on while miss Hawk is lost in the wild! :(

The power of internet Christ compels you.
To do these things.
Going away for five or more days... I haven't bought a laptop yet, so I won't be able to login...
Bye Silver.
Your absence will be taken as an admission that its a freakin' guanaco.

Never lost my friend, Im too good for that ^_^ Hehehehehe, I kicked arse out there. Haha, that raging creek was no match for my bushland skills. For I am Ladyhawk, I rule the bush, from both the Earth and Sky. XD
But you aren't aboriginal. Or Bear Grylls. Either way, your bush skills unfortunately pale in comparison. You still thrash everyone else. You know, normal people.... ;)
Ladyhawk95 > Les Stroud > Bear Grylls
In Dunceld till Wednesday.
Internet is slow and patchy, with a small chance of total failure.
Probably though not definitely away tomorrow until Saturday or Sunday at the latest. Very sorry for inconvenience caused to my RPG and Mafia groups.
Have a good week Jubal. And no problems. I'm not part of either any more. :(
I'm back!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgk-Gu-4MX8
Yay XD welcome back!!
Hey Jubal!
Trust CG to welcome you back with a video. :P
Oh yes, welcome, and all that. Leave it to me to post a link with nothing else. :)
I hate to do it to you guys but off I go to Melbourne to go pick up me writing award.
I'll be back on Tuesday, provided something doesn;t go horribly wrong.
While I'm down there I'll try to get on here but I'm not likely to get much of a chance. On the other hand I am being interviewed so I'm definitely going to hammer home that people whould come on here.
Cheers guys, I'll hopefully get a chance to come on again tomorrow morning but in case I don't:
FAREWELL EXILIAN! I'LL SEE THEE UPON MY TRIUMPHANT RETURN!
Ew. Melbourne. Anyways, see you soon my friend. If something goes horribly wrong, you will be in a f*** load of trouble :) haha Congrats and good luck.
Make your swagger as over the top as possible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeYf-rhMQIQ&t=2m25s
Obscure reference, but it's the best I can do besides something with Michael J. "Crocodile" Dundee. ;)
Have a good trip.
And I have returned! Rather triumphantly if I may say so myself. :P
Hello :)
Wilkommen!
I've decided to leave for a while. Why? For fun. I want to see how fast you guys will post in The Beer Cellar when you find out that I won't come back until I can't see my name there. :)
Awww, dont go!!
Okay. Well, look after yourself Khan. :)
Don't expect me to be around/reply to things much 'til Wednesday, got my Cambridge interview on Tuesday which has to take priority really.
Good luck to you sire.
Good luck Jubal. :)
You know what. Screw it. Three days and only 6 active topics. :( You guts are hopeless.
hahaha lol. How do you know it wasnt a cunning plan to get you back?
Naa. Your all just lazy. :)
Hahaha Im not la....no yeah, your right, I am XD
Sort of back-ish, but coursework will blight the rest of the week at least.
Its good to have you back. :)
Away for the weekend, back late on Sunday. :)
We will try to manage without you. :(
*waiting for Jubal's return*
*sneaks back in, quietly*
Hmm, I'm sure I heard something. :P
Going away for a week. If you Australian than I'll be back shortly on Friday and leaving again for the week end.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBZ8ulc5NTg
Hello Jubal. Goodbye Khan.
Australian is a verb now?
Yes. These things happen, you just need to get caught up after being away. :P
Away for about 48 hours, just to let y'all know.
Was wondering where you were. :'(
Nawww, okay. We will miss you!
I'll be in London until Monday night.
I want you to randomly run out into the street and shout "FREEEDOOMMMMM!" while you're there. :)
Can't, school trip.
Hey guys. I will most probably be away untill Wednesday. My family and I are going camping. Depends if there is reception :P
That sounds fun. :)
Its alright. Haha. I might actually get somee sleep now that I cant call anyone :P haha
You could learn to use smoke signals. ;)
Haha I doubt he would be able to see them. XD
Then you're clearly not using a sufficiently large fire.
Naa its not that. He will just either be on the computer, reading or watching LOTR. *Rollseyes* Hahaha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09m0B8RRiEE
I'll be gone until Tuesday
Hurry back!!!!
I'll be away from saterday to saterday.
Where you going? :) (Dont have to answer, I realise that, that sounds quite nosey)
I'm going to an isolated cottage to study and write.
I'm back.
Are you being serious, NA?
Welcome back, KHAAAAN! :)
Today began my line of 19 straight work days, so I don't know how active I'll be by the latter half of them (plus that means I'll be there instead of here the next couple weekends).
I am being serious what gave you the impression I was joking?
PG is going to be away untill friday.
I AM BACK
[/size][/b]
As this is major news, I thought that it deserved the grand entrance. (cough)
Yes, that's right, you lucky, lucky people. I have graced your presence once again. Lucky sods.
Some of you may be asking why? Why now?
Well, the simple answer to that is I'm slightly bored.
And I (strangely) missed this place and its inactive ways a tiny, little bit.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo............................
LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED!
Good to hear Goldy and it's good to have you back mate. :)

You messed up your html.
Spoiler
Welcome back!!!
I sent you in pm
I'll be away for the best part of a week from Sunday onwards, for familial reasons. Will probably be back on the airwaves around Friday.
Okay, are you free 8:30 on Saturday for a brief meeting?
Aye, I will. PM I presume?
Indeedamus.
My internet is screwy, I had none at all yesterday and so activity may be patchy until it gets fixed.
I'm going away on a small trip from this Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. I might pop on here briefly once or twice though.
Oh who am I kidding, I'll be here enough that my absence won't be noticed. :P
We're always expecting you :D
Greetings from Buffalo, New York! :) My post count may indeed slow this weekend.
Hope you are having a good time :D
Unfortunately I'm having a lousy time... how typical.
Away until late Monday, doin' some folk music stuff in Suffolk. :)
Folk music? Exploring new areas, or have I not read much here lately?
I've always been into folk music; I'm helping out at a music shop/stall at various festivals this summer. :)
Man, if there was ever anything I'd like to do as a summer job, is to work at a music shop... although I might get fired for laughing at poor purchase choices and trying to stuff in good music CD's into their shopping bags.
Oh, and sorry for the completely inadequate and unrelated stereotype I'll just say, but every time I hear someone from the UK talking about folk music, the first thing that comes to might are red-headed, hairy Scottish men playing on bagpipes (although I must say I like the bagpipe sounds)
It's worth noting I'll be away for the week, my internet will be patchy so posting will be sparse.
Have a good week. :)
Next few days look like hell. Back monday!
Good luck in hell!
Tell Lucy I said hi ;)
@Cg: Danke!
@KSM: I confused am by thy post? Not seeing any Lucy-people in the near future afaik...
Maybe some Lucy in hell :)
Good luck man!
Lucifer guys, Lucifer. We're on good terms :P
Yeah, I forgot his name ;D And just what do you mean by that?
Well we sometimes go for coffee but he's been rather busy recently, he's promised me one of the less firey areas in the Seventh Circle.
He sounds like a nice guy.
Daemonic overlords always do....
Satan's a pretty little girl. :P
Aww she is a beautiful little girl :) She is so sweet.
Satan gives me kisses!! :D
So, at a celidh on Saturday, an unfortunate musician decides to go and have a dance and gets stuck with me as a partner (feel sorry for them).
...and it turns out their name is Lucy (of a rather excellent band called Pilgrim's Way who you really ought to Google).
KSM's predictive skills: win. Mind: blown. :P
Take this opportunity to bask in my cool ;)
JKS, still that is rather epic, I should attempt to be funny more often :P
Did you say "hi" on KSM's mind though? :P
Say my future now KSM! ;D
@debux: Remember your keys as you'll be needing them :P
I should do a KSM horoscope based on nothing factual or even vaguely preemptive :D
Make a boozer thread for it. :P
Done :)
At Cambridge Folk Festival from tomorrow until Sunday evening. I apologise for this string of absences (mixed with lethargy in the interims I must admit), will be back on duty after that I hope.
You seem to be a very busy man Jubal ;)
DeathNade is not going to be able to post for a while... obviously. As I said in the Chat Box he won't be able to until he moves houses... or just comes and stays at mine for a night. :) Old fashion sleepover. ;D
Is there any estimated date for his "moving-in" to somewhere else? (is there any word you can use there?)
I have not idea but my estimate would have to be 2-3 months. :(
What the spiffin' holy taco?! What's going on?
Back!
Yay
And stay back! :P
As in back, behind me.
We'll protect you Jubal!
ORDER OF EXILIAN, CHARGE!
Well, i never said I'll be away for year and a half, maybe more, but I'm back now :)
Haha, welcome back.
I thought you gave up. :P
I never trully left, during my absence I was following few topics here on ex, I was just too lazy to log on and comment
Welcome back, sir. :)
Welcome back! :)
OH HAIZ
To be honest, I really don't remember you... but hopefully it's not just me
In any case, nice to have more people on board!
I really don't remember him much either but that Avatar looks slightly familiar... maybe I saw it while Necroposting. ;)
Pretty sure someone else who's disappeared has the same avatar Khan. But I might be wrong.
Anyway, welcome back good sir. ;)
Nah it was prolly me, I just changed my old forum name to match the name I use everywhere else on net (in LOL, RotMG, H&H, PWI etc.)
And thnx every1, it's nice to be back :)
I hope your stay is long and prosperous.
Thnx every1 for welcoming me back. I missed EX a lot
So, maybe you could re-introduce yourself in a new welcome thread :D
Maybe I could, let me just find that thread
EDIT: could you link me thread pls? navigating forum on my mobile phone is kind annoying
YEAH! (http://exilian.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=2.0)
Dankeschön
I'm in deep armadillo right now. I'll be back in a month.
Take care, old friend. Best of luck.
Silver!
Wolf!
Thanks Jubal.
I'll be here for World building classes, but I'll have to postpone my Wings 3D classes.
Sorted that out, no worries. :)
I am mostly away, bar urgent enquiries, until the 26th. Take care until then, all, and keep posting and having fun etc!
Am I dead? I'm dead.
Your words say you're dead, the fact you're typing indicates the reverse. :P
Um... good luck to all?
Went down to Portsmouth along the Ohio River today to see my sister play Soccer. They won 5 to 2.
Do you try out to reveal your hidden cheerleader abilities? ;D
Cows are known to be very enthusiastic ;D
I doubted if I really wanted to see that. Now I'm doubting if I'm horrified or just stunned.
Anyways, I guess the video kind of represent how enthusiastic you were during the game :P
Kind of over-represents my enthusiasm. :P
May as well notify you now, before I forget; from this monday to thursday afternoon I am off to have a relaxing holiday.
=)
Have fun than. :D
Good luck! And as Khan says, lotsa fun ;D
Going down to Portsmouth again for the day, so probably won't see much of this place until Monday afternoon. Everyone miss me or else! >:(
I MISS YOU!!!
;D I'm back! ;D
I got back 20 mins ago! :D
Welcome back :)
Welcome back dood!
I'm back.
I've moved into a new house and I finally have a working (and stable) internet connection.
Glad to have you back with us. :)
Ditto!
Thanks guys.
It's nice to be back. ;D
I'm currently on holiday; I still have internet access, however I'm going to be spending some time with my family for another week or a little more.I'll still go on Exilian a bit, but not as much as I normally do.
I'm away until roughly next Wednesday, will have bits of access but very limited.
Take care, keep posting, don't goad North Korea into invading us until I get back, etc!
Back!
Evidently your poking-stick is inadequate, SW. :P
I'm still on limited access as exams; back properly Wednesday. :)
I'm back.
Huzzah and all ;D
Leaving tomorrow at some horrific time in the morning.
Back on 13th, don't know when.
Might have WiFi.. might not.. Might be here.. might not.. Maybe I'll use this opportunity to run and never look back. I suspect that is unlikely though.
Away until next Monday, sorry all!
Me too, but I'm not sorry.
Enjoy your peasant music and dancing :P
Away until Wednesday 31st. Will probably have some patchy internets maybe.
Smile peoples :)
All the sadness. :-\
I'm back. :)
Happiness. :)
Away a full week starting tomorrow. May have some mobile access but posting will be minimal at best.
When I get back though the final stretch WHTW blitz will begin. :)
I'm not away, but for the next two weeks I'm really busy (by which I mean stressed out) with work :/ working with children is exhausting sometimes... I should be okay at weekends but sorry if I'm not posting during the week (like the week just gone).
2 weeks ago I was going on holiday for two weeks, but I'm back now :P
I'm back :)
This thread needs to be renamed to 'The "I'm leaving/back" Thread', I think it would be much better suited. :P
Going to Ireland (13th-20th), back home 21st.
Going to Towersey, 22nd-27th.
Limited internet access for both. Even more limited for the folk festival. Sorry, guys :/ I think I'm going to go crazy :P
Don't worry! Penty can do our job instead! Instead of me stealsing it all from him :)
Ciao again.
We have work?
Apparently so :P
Back now :) Did you miss me? :P
Didn't even notice you were gone. ;D
I did. :'(
It's okay CG, she's back now. :)

Well, I see all your old posts and it's like you were always here. :P

True story.
Good god, so much love from my fellows! I can't take it!
EDIT: Don't do it. I know you want to, but don't lower the tone.
I think it was only your mind that went there. I'm not even sure what you mean, although I could take a stab at the general idea.
Hi everybody! I am back!
I had some great problems with my pc (my old one died, and I finally got a new one ^_^ ),but I am back now and I am here to stay.

Just joking. :D
I'm going to Paphos, in Cyprus.
UNESCO World heritage area that was inhabited by Greeks, Ptolemaics, Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Ottomans, the lot, should be exciting.
Jealous! >:(
Wow! Have an amazing trip mate :D
Sounds good. Might be gone to the frozen north by the time you get back, hopefully I shall see you before you leave.
I'm abandoning you, apologies. I'll be back sometime... Sunday maybe?
:'( :'( :'(
Sad times indeed, have fun but hurry back ;)
Take care, everyone. I'll be back soon. :)
I'm off for a couple of days too, though internets will be thing.
Well, I'm back.
Was away for yesterday and most of today. I've got my drivers license. :)
Glad I don't have to drive in your country then. :P
Congratuations :)
And now begins the final weeks of my summer holiday where I am far too far away and need to do far too much packing and washing :P
Going away 15 minutes ago and will be back Sunday evening.
Gone on Tuesday 24th, returning Thursday 3rd. Field trips are exciting.
4th ish to back university!
Excuse me while I go away and panic blindly about everything! Enjoy people, don't forget about me :)
Stay calm and enjoy the ride. :)
I shall be off for a shorter period of time. I will not be on the Internet for around...10-12 days.
I shall try to finish the "secret" mod during this period.
In North Carolina for an extended weekend, but obviously hasn't hindered my online-ness.
Back again from my latest gap of absence, academia, games collecting and Europa Universalis IV took up a lot of my time, yet I should be able to be a little more active.
As usual (or as unusual), excellent to see you sir. :)
Wewt.
Off to Scotland for two weeks tomorrow, you'll have to handle the kitchen bots yourselves for a while :P
(http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/braveheart-internet.jpg)
Sadly, where I'm going is not the best for internet access, so I guess they can :P
My Banhammer is always ready. :)
Yo what part of scotland you hitting up?
I'll be away until Thursday afternoon. :)
Can't you stay away for longer? You know, like a year or three.
Meh, I've tried that. It puts my Posts per Day down quite a bit.
About to take the plunge. Nobody is allowed to ask me to do anything between now and next Wednesday evening short of the site going down, and I will probably be around just about not at all.
Good luck, back soon!
(Nb my exams don't finish next Wednesday, but by that point I'll have 1 left and five days to immerse myself in North American history for it).
Very good luck to you Jubal, I hope they go well. :)
Thankyou! Look after the place, destroy any kitchen bots, try and keep the post count above thirty per day, and remember to feed Pentagathus. :P
But not after midnight.
I will make sure he has a balanced diet of posts to criticize. :)
Balanced diet? Do you take me for some kind of health freak?
Hope all these exam things go well for everyone.
I'm going on a field trip and I'll be away for a week.
And you probably won't be seeing much activity from me in the next month. I've moved recently and I still need to find some reasonable solution concerning my internet connection...
We'll miss you, Wolfman!
No he won't. And neither will I. Ha.
Ha.
armadillo just realised CG said we instead of he. Now I feel stoopid again. :(
We aren't doing a very good job keeping the post count up. :P
Meh, we try our best. Sometimes.
Back. Though give me a few days to recuperate, that was all a pretty bloody horrible experience.
Going away again in a few hours.
Back to surviving without the internets.
Good luck, come back soon :)
:'(

Good, don't come back soon :)
Fixed that typo for you bro.
I'm back. Sort of.
For a limited amount of time.
:)
Well, starting tomorrow afternoon I go mobile for about 12 days. If and when I turn up at any given point and at any given place will become an unknown. :)
Off to Scotland for two weeks this Saturday, and as soon as I come back I'm off down to Cambridge for a summer school, so don't be surprised if you hear [even] less from me for like 3 weeks.
Have fun! :)
I fully intend to! :D
Aye, have fun, and let me know when you'll be in Cambridge, I might bump into you by chance or design. :)
It's the week starting the 25th I believe, I'm staying at Sydney Sussex.
It seems a bit strange that to say that I will be away for a while so soon after joining; nevertheless, that's what's happening. I will be on holiday from Saturday 9th to Monday 18th inclusive, meandering around Germany and neighbouring countries by train. For some engineering quirkiness, there is a good chance that this will involve at least one, possibly two, train ferry crossings.
Also, I still need to do quite a lot of organising (route planning and hotel booking, mainly), so I probably won't be terribly active here for the next few days either.
Its fleeing already, our ambiguity has struck terror even faster than direct hostilities. It can't live with the suspense, the not knowing when we might turn on it. Yes we are a genius indeed, a most cunning adversary we are.
Erm I mean enjoy your travels. We all look forward to your return.
Merely a tactical withdrawal, I assure you. I will return soon with my hypnotic stare and my army of city-sacking orcs. Mwahahaha! >:D
Yes, thank you. I'm looking forward to my holiday, and to coming back.
Geez, Glaury, you sure do get around. :P

One tries. Angband, Anfauglith, Tumhalad, Nargothrond, Brethil - and now Germany. :)
Would Germany be Mordor? ;)
Fortunately not: Germany has good beer, schnitzel and strudel, and I doubt I'd find any of these in Mordor.
You might be surprised. :)

This sounds like the voice of experience. Tell us more, please :)
Meanwhile, I might not be so absent as expected - a couple of experiments have shown that I can read and post here using the browser on my phone. Yay for technology!
Greetings from Germany! All is going well so far, except that the wifi at last night's hotel decided to block Exilian (I got a long message in German, ending in "games"!). I contemplated ravaging the hotel with Fire (and, possibly, The Sword*), but eventually decided against, as it's very convenient and does a good breakfast.
* See "1066 And All That". Also, the hotel isn't in Thanet.
Macht Spass!
I'm not sure under what circumstances one would want to check in at a hotel in Thanet nowadays, I must admit...
I have been away, hippyfesting. Twas good. I'm back, but tired and busy.
Well, I'm back. Two planes, many trains, no automobiles whatsoever, and one ferry later, I'm at home again. Normal service (whatever that is!) should now resume.

I have done it: I stayed in a B&B in Ramsgate when returning from Belgium on an inconveniently timed ferry. I've no desire to repeat the experience!
Welcome back :)

How was the land of Germans?
It was good. It contained nice scenery, interesting towns, trains, beer, schnitzel, wurst, sauerkraut, and pastries, all of which I enjoyed. It also contained rain, which I did not enjoy.
I also visited the lands of the Danes, the Swedes and the Czechs. Much the same comments apply to these too. My train from Sweden to Germany crossed the Baltic Sea on a ferry - one of only three places in Europe where this happens now.

Dear goodness. Pentagathus just gave a sensible, helpful, on-topic piece of moderation advice which he was actually supposed to give as part of his job. I think I might need to lie down.
Also, I'll be away Friday-Monday in Shrewsbury :)
Aha finally the plan is bearing fruit, we shall drive them into despair and confusion until they all run away to shrewsbury!

Enjoy Shrewsbury. I think you'll like it: it has an interesting (and highly defensible) natural setting in a big meander of the Severn, and lots of well-preserved medieval buildings.
Someone needs to come visit me. :(
Disappearing off to Shrewsbury for a few days - contactable by phone if necessary, back late-ish on Tuesday :)
I'M BACKISH!!!
YAY :)
Yes, you are rather brackish.
As you may have noticed, I have not been that active lately.
Well, the main reason is my very limited (and expensive) internet connection (1Gb/month).
And unfortunately, things aren't going to get any better. Well, at least not the next 2 months.
I'm going to be in Greece for nine days from Sunday onwards.
TAKE ME WITH YOOOUUU! :o
Wait, didn't we/don't we have a member that lives in Greece? Was/is it Dimos?
Add Dimos.

Gone for two weeks. Sorry guys. Got a wedding to attend, family to visit etc. I may just on to see how everyone's going at some point. :) Stay safe without me!
Good.
Have fun. :)
Don't.
Already am Penty. >:)
I'm leaving for the UK again in 24 hours. :)
Bring waterproofs, CG!
And a thick coat! It's freezing here!
Good luck buddy. Have fun ;)

Have a safe journey, and a wonderful time while you're over here. For London, the forecast temperatures look to be between 50F and 63F, with brisk winds, so maybe 5F windchill. Nothing compared to an Ohio winter, of course! But you will need the waterproofs if you're going outside at all - there's intermittent rain all weekend :(
And I have my own "being away" post - I will be away from Saturday morning (11 October) for a week. This time I am heading mostly south, for a tour of Sardinia. I think there's a reasonable chance of me finding WiFi, so I'll probably be dropping in here occasionally.
Nice one! Should be quite an adventure I'm sure, have fun :D
Sank you all! Have fun as well Glaurung! ^_^
Have fun guys :)
Thanks for all the kind words - I'm looking forward to it.
I have returned! ;D
Welcome back :)
How did it go?
I'm back. ;D
At least for a short amount of time.
I have also returned. :(
Welcome back, all :)
Disco disco party party?
I'm back. Sardinia was spectacularly beautiful, and it's now very high on my list of places to go back to.
Welcome back, glad you enjoyed it :)
While you were away I visited England for you. :)
Ah is that what you call it now cg? 'visiting England' ;P
;)
New euphemism? :P

Indeed I did, thank you. A little wild and windy on the West coast of Scotland at this time of year, but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.
Off to Sheffield until Monday, not sure how much access I'll have.
You know you'll be here every day. Have fun!
Back! I bought teacups!
How was Sheffield? :D
Good, thanks; Saturday was spent walking in the peak district in the snow (with a visit to a rather excellent junk shop in Castleton), and Sunday we visited York minster and Christmas market. Was all good fun :)
So your visit to sheffield comprised of not being in sheffield most of the time? Sounds good though, I could do with getting out into some hills.
Yeah, I'll be away (Like I wasn't already :P) for a few days. So bye!
Will be in ROME for the next 10 days.
Have fun! Avoid declaring Total War :P
Don't listen to Jubal, have much seriousness and declare all of the wars.
Done.
Apologies for my sudden and unintended absence, its been a very busy few weeks at work :( .
Holiday over. :'(
I'm sorry :/
...welcome back? :P
Am going to ayrshire for a festival, try not to conduct too much drunk and disorderly behaviour in my absence.
Are we allowed to be either drunk or disorderly as long as we're not both at the same time?
Yes I believe you are. But I;m back now so you can be both now anyway.
woots.
I will be away, in Ireland, from early tomorrow morning until late on Sunday. Depending on WiFi, I may be logging in occasionally.
Have fun :D
Been in the land of Poles if you hadn't noticed.
Low access until Monday evening, going south for a couple nights.
Back!
How was south?
Southern, I guess.
Public service announcement: I am away doing folk music and storytelling from tomorrow until approximately August 10. Am sorry for the absence; please keep the place functioning etc.
Have fun! Folk music and storytelling sounds like an excellent way to recharge after the last few months' vicissitudes.
Hopefully we can keep the place functioning while you're away. If you return to find us holed up in the smoking ruins, with the bodies of slain spambots piled around us, you'll know we've had some problems.
I still actually need to pack, was up late filling out my masters application yesterday D:
I might not be around much this weekend: I have finally found some tuits and decided to go and see stuff. The plan of campaign is this:
- tomorrow: Stonehenge, Old Sarum, and other stuff in Salisbury as time permits
- Sunday: Brighton - Volk's Electric Railway, maybe Brighton Pavilion or anything else that takes my fancy
On the other hand, this involves a lot of travelling, so I will be sitting on trains with a smartphone for quite a few hours. If there's Wifi or mobile connectivity, I might be posting a lot...
Tuits?
Quote from: comrade_general on July 31, 2015, 09:14:43 PM
Tuits?
Ah, sorry, this is a Britishism (if you can have Americanisms, I can have Britishisms). It started from "I'll do it when I get around to it", which must at some point have been converted to "I'll do it when I get a round tuit". I remember seeing a small ceramic plate, labelled as a "round tuit", in a shop window about 30 years ago. So now "tuits" are the thing that one must have in order to get something done. I don't know whether it's only the round ones that are still effective, or whether square or triangular ones now work as well.
I might not be around much this weekend (again) - unfortunately this time it's because work will probably eat my life for a couple of days :(
I am back. Hullo folks!
It's about bloody time!
Sorry :(
I will continue to make that clip re-useable until the end of time :P
Was in a field for nearly two weeks, forgot to let y'all know. Am back, suppose life is stressful but portugal stress.
Why were you in a field for two weeks?
Why were you not in the field?
I was in a different field.
Wrong field then, shame on you.
But I was having a field day there!
Advance warning: I may not be around much for the next month or so. After not going anywhere for the first half of the year, I'm about to have three foreign trips in very quick succession:
- Sun 23 to Sat 29 August: a railway meander from Santiago de Compostela to Strasbourg, via Madrid, Barcelona, southern France and hopefully a bit of Italy
- Thu 3 - Mon 7 September: Sardinia, trying to see the bits that were omitted from the tour I went on last October
- Thu 17 - Wed 23 September: another meander, through the Balkans this time, from Kosovo via Macedonia and Thessaloniki to Athens (or that's the intention)
As you might guess, much of my free time when I'm not on holiday will be taken up organising bits of holiday - booking planes, trains and hotels.
Yes, the film title was going through my head as I wrote the words. I'm hoping that automobiles will not need to feature in any part of these trips: I don't drive, taxis are expensive, and any other unexpected interaction with a car is likely to be painful.
Have fun, keep us updated when you can, and make sure you tell us about it all when you get back :) Particularly interested to know what you think of Thessaloniki!
I really want to travel the old Egnatian Way sometime - Durres to Istanbul via Thessaloniki...
I'm away until late-ish Monday night, at Shrewsbury folk festival :)
I'm in South Carolina until Monday so posting will probably be sporadic.
Have fun!
^ Ditto that!
Christmas tomorrow, so I'm going to my parents house for a few days to catch up with them and steal some of my dads supply of Leffe Brown.
They have internet, but I'll be posting a bit less.
You habe leffe in the kangaroo colony?

No, it's not bad. Belgian beer is a somewhat obscure field of knowledge (albeit one I've rather enjoyed exploring over the last 20 years) - I wouldn't expect you to know it, any more than I'm familiar with most late Byzantine history.
Away until Monday, will be with family in Lincolnshire, probably not going to have internets.
I'm leaving for North Carolina and Washington, D.C. today. Be gone until next Friday but I'm sure I'll find time to post. :)
Have fun :)
We (SotK and I) are away from Friday morning for two weeks in Scotland - I don't know how much we will be/be able to get online.

It's loo late, I am already deeply insulted
SotK and I will be in Austin, Texas from 23rd April to 1st May :)
Woo USA! Might as well be UK though as far as being close enough for a visit. :)
Ooh, whatcha doing over there? :)
SotK is going there for a work summit for a week, I'm tagging along (and being a +1 for evening events) because I've wanted to go to Austin for a while :)

It is for SotK :) I went to NYC 4 years ago with my parents :)
Nice to have some Exilians visiting my country for a change. :)
I ought to get round to that sometime. Will have to see how I'm doing financially next academic year/what my work situation ends up being.
I should probably post an update here.
First, apologies that I haven't been posting much for several weeks - volunteer activities for the LibDems have eaten most of my free time. It's all too easy to say Yes to another batch of leaflet deliveries...
Second, I am going to be away for quite a lot of the next two weeks:
- Fri 29 April - Tue 3 May: travelling in Germany
- Wed 4 & Thu 5 May: back in the UK, but largely doing LibDem stuff for the local elections on the Thursday
- Fri 6 - Tue 10 May: travelling in Spain
I might not be terribly active even after I get back: once the local election campaign is over, the local LibDems will be working hard as part of the "Remain" campaign for the UK's EU referendum.
Good luck with it all!
And here I go on another holiday:
Thu 26 May: fly to Cologne
Fri 27 May: train to Nuremberg
Sat 28 & Sun 29 May: enthusiast train trips around Nuremberg
Mon 30 May: train to Vienna
Tue 31 May: train to Zagreb (Croatia) via Budapest (long way round, just because I can!)
Wed 1 June: Zagreb area
Thu 2 June: train to Osijek
Fri 3 June: fly home
Do you think you could smuggle me into your luggage for your next trip?
Maybe. We might need to put you in "hibernate" mode for the duration, and we'd probably need to detach your limbs for more efficient packing. Your limbs do detach (and re-attach, of course), don't they?
I've lost my construction manual I'm afraid, but still there's one way to find out.
What could go wrong, after all? :)
I'm likely to be low-access until Monday evening, doing a trip round East Anglia.
Staffers: If anyone else has time to put a couple things out on the twitter to cover for me, that would be awesome. I need to schedule a whole bunch more tweets but not had time.
East Anglia best Anglia.
Are there other Anglias?
Not now, and not for a long time. However, there seems to have been a brief period when there was a "Middle Anglia"; and I think that the area that might logically have been "West Anglia" actually turned into the Anglo-Saxon kingdom called Mercia. But I'm not sure - Dark Ages Anglo-Saxon history is complicated...
I'm back in Birmingham, not that I really want to be :/
Burning ham.
Yeah and East Anglia is the only Anglia still around cos it's the best Anglia
Helo!
Long time no see ;)
Hello! :D
How are things, old friend?
My god what an embarrassment, my very first word in a couple of years and i misspelled it..... -.-
We even have 2 l:s in our swedish version of it, hallå..
Well, beyond my non existing sense of spelling, i can't complain :)
And you old friend?
Hi Zibbit! :)
I'm doing alright - in the middle of a masters' degree now, no idea what I'm doing after that!
Grand masters degree?
Apologies: I haven't been around much for a while, and I'm likely to be around even less for the next week or ten days. Once again I am busy walking around Cambridge, pushing leaflets through letterboxes for the Liberal Democrats. This time, of course, it's part of the Remain campaign for the UK's EU referendum.
That's horrible, G. :(
The referendum is indeed horrible, in a large number of ways, and I'd much rather be spending my time on something better. But as it is happening, and I believe very strongly that it's important for the UK to stay in the EU, I'm doing what I can to achieve that result.
I will be away from the 4th of July to the 11th in the wilderness of northern Sweden. So expect nothing from me in advance
Don't get Stockholm syndrome!
I'm only in stockholm for 2 hours then off to the arctic circle. I hope i don't catch love for my captures in Sweden by then!
Gmd: have fun! How far north will you be - pine forest or tundra?
As for me, I am generally likely to be around about as much as I have been since February, i.e. somewhat less than I'd like to be. I am well aware of my responsibilities here as Sakellarios, and, should you choose to ratify my election, as Basileus, and I am certainly not running away, but real-world political activity looks very likely to be a substantial part of my leisure time from now on.
Crete is weird and amazing!
Their bbqs are portugaling fantastic, bbq octopus is one of the best things I've ever had. Thier beers are armadillo though. Fix and Alfa both terrible, best they serve regularly is heinekan... And that's an average beer at the very best.
Stray cats and dogs are everywhere.I thought it'd be bad but half the time its adorable.
They can't drive for armadillo. Literally yhr worst driving I've ever witnessed. Also there are no traffic laws apparently or c op s.
Weather has been a solid 9000 degrees. Great if you're into thy.
Maps rarely correspond with where the roads are. Mountains are beautiful, just fantastic, awe inspiring mofos. Every 20 metres os a taverna with the most friendly and wrlcomig hosts. The people here are so accompfating to tourists. The locals are very good at speaking English. Super friendly, super forgiving. Leading Greek is portugaling jhard, locals love it if you try even though their English is near perfect and they don't take the piss unlike Spain or France (personal experience only tbf).
You need a car to get around. The mountain passes are phenomenal, driving through them you het a real feel for the scale and the geography of Crete. Busses only gp from town to town which is bori in g. The big toens are like any in east Europe but with more graffiti. Tons of graffiti here. Also toilet paper goes in the bin... Not disastrous but weird and uncomfortable.
Ig someone could correct this that'd be amazing. My typing is so slow on the phone.
Tp in the bin?????
Yep.
Back.
Welcome back, hope it as a good trip :)
Once more unto the continent, once more...
Yes, I'm about to go off on holiday (again!). More train travel - this time an out-and-back trip to Vienna, by train all the way. I leave tomorrow morning, and get back on Tuesday (30th) evening.

Translation is an art in itself :P
Fun was indeed had in Vienna - though it seems like a very long time ago now :(
For my final trip of the year, I am, at very short notice, going to Barcelona for a long weekend: I fly out tomorrow and back on Sunday. So I'm spending today sorting stuff out! Consequently I'm unlikely to be online much until Monday.
Enjoy the trip G. ;)
The planet Barcelona? Have fun.
It might well feel like a different planet - it will certainly have more sunshine!
We could do with that here, grim weather still reigns (and indeed rains) in Brum :(
Snow and below freezing temps here.
Oh yeah I'm in Italy atm. It's pretty cool, turns out Rome has a load of old Roman stuff. Think I might one back here someday, should probably bring a camera next time so I can become an instagram celebrity.

I did have fun. Definitely intend to see more of Italy someday, think I'll keep learning ye olde Italian too.

I do hear Venice is cool.
I'm off to Orkney and then the far north of the mainland for the next ten days or so. No internets for me, try to keep the marcuses at bay in my absence.

Boars or pigs, apparently: that's what the Celtic 'ork' or 'arc' element means. The Vikings heard the name and decided it referred to seals instead (their word 'orkn') and added 'eyjar' (islands) for good measure. Centuries of English usage have worn off the final syllable.
There weren't many pigs or boars that I saw, lots of sheep though. We were up for the folk festival, was some good folking. The last night of it was particularly glorious, the whole town of stromness seemed to be absolutely on it. Did some hikes in the land of orcs as well, Hoy was pretty beautiful and the weather was perfect.
North coast and west coast were also amazing, some hard hikes with nothing going to plan made for quite the adventure.
Scotland's cool kids, check it out some time.
Ooh who was playing at the festival? :)
People.
Disappointed, was hoping for an orchestra of folk musician Orcadian gnomes.
Going camping tomorrow. Will be gone for a week.

Take care, have fun! :)
Am back. Was cold. :p

I'm technically "away" at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds all week, but I've given my talk already so I'm essentially on holiday and may be on Exilian at least as much as usual!
More awayness: I will be on holiday from Sunday 30 July to Sunday 6 August, in Switzerland and Austria. Quite a bit of this will probably be spent going up or through Alps by train.
I'll be busy much of the next 2-3 days as I'm moving country, but should be back to normal after that & with plans in motion to do exciting Exilian stuff! :)
And further awayness: Sunday 20th - Monday 28th, travelling around Norway. I can't say I'm pining for the fjords, but it has been 28 years since I was last there...
Well, look on the bright side; at least the fjords are in Norway rather than Africa, which would be rather hot at this time of year!
Moving apartment today: I don't think internet will be set up when I get there, so given Austrian attitudes to Sunday working I'd expect to have minimal access until Monday. I will try to get Updates from the Forge done & up as usual, but other than that posting activity may be rather minimal over the weekend (and the twitter feed might be rather quiet).
Good luck - I hope all goes well.
Thanks, it's all gone OK, just been flailing around trying to get this newsletter sorted during it all. Posted now, anyhow! :)
Hi, I'm going to be away from around February 2017 until March 2018. Thanks!
Ooh, time travel!!! How intriguing!!! :O
Forthcoming awayness: today to Monday 27th inclusive. In fact I'm already 'away', as I'm typing this at Gatwick Airport. It's going to be a ramble through the erstwhile Holy Roman Empire by train: Vienna tonight, then Innsbruck, Verona, Switzerland, Frankfurt am Main, and finally Antwerp.
Make sure you give Jubal plenty of heads up. ;)
Nah, have fun, G. Come by the other side sometime.
thank you for telling us enjoy your vacation dont worry there will be internet
I'm in the UK! I'll be very busy politicking for the next five days so sorry in advance for not being here much. Normal service will resume soon :)

Can confirm presence of Internet :)
Indeed, much Internet :)
I too am doing things political for the next four days, by no coincidence at all at the same event as Jubal.
I'm doing zero politics things the next 4 days and there should be internet so I'll be somewhat around if anyone cares. I will also be drunk. :)
Oddly enough, the political event seems to involve a lot of sitting in pubs and drinking beer :)
Don't defile the beer. :'(

Defiled beer doesn't sound very palatable - why would I do that?
By mixing it with politics. ;)
I don't mean to point out the obvious, but isn't politics the reason a lot of people get drunk nowadays?
It's not a reason for me. Ever.
Good... Getting drunk for no reason whatsoever is more fun anyway... ;D
Absolutely. :)
I would like to let you all know I will be going on vacation next week. I'll be back a week Monday.
I am worried about if there will be internet, though.

Have a great time!
What's your destination?
Destination UNKNOWN D:
That there Cyprus for a bit of diving and driving
Ooh, Cyprus is lovely :) Which part of it? I went to the Paphos area a few years back.
Nice! I've visited Paphos when I was younger and remember it being an interesting place.
I'll be based not far from there in Limassol . There will be a fair bit of car based roamage too :)
I'm just stepping into my plane to go back to Vienna - hopefully it'll be an OK flight, it's a bit delayed so I'm nervous about catching my train at the other end...
If you don't catch it it shouldn't be hard to find - they always leave tracks.
Badumtish.
Got it with five rounds minutes to spare :)
And more awayness for me: ten days travelling around Europe (by train, inevitably!). Tomorrow I fly out to Sofia, in Bulgaria (a new country for me), and on Sunday embark on a circular tour of the southern Balkans by special train, via southern Serbia, Macedonia, northern Greece (including Thessaloniki), and back through southern Bulgaria to Sofia. This is spread over a week. Then it's on to Germany, for a day or so, around Hannover, and finally back home on Monday 8 October.
Access to Exilian is likely to be intermittent, especially in Serbia and Macedonia where I may not have mobile data roaming. However, based on previous experience, I expect that there will be internet.
I feel like this is going to need to go in the Hitch-hiker's Guide soon...
Indeed, especially if CG has anything to do with it.
In other news, I have now reached Sofia. There is internet :) There are also mountains, or at least very large hills, close to the city, and lots of buildings from perhaps the mid-nineteenth century onwards. I suspect there is an older city centre somewhere nearby.
As an added linguistic excitement, I don't speak any Bulgarian (though it's similar to other Slavic languages) and it's all written in Cyrillic, which I can transliterate with some effort.
Also, I've realised, I've increased my "Womble world tour" score by one, i.e. I've visited another place after which a Womble is named - Bulgaria in this case. Previous such locations have included Wellington and Adelaide. Unfortunately, there are still a lot to do: Tobermory, Orinoco, Bungo and Tomsk as obvious ones.
Further news from Sofia: the hotel I'm staying in is hosting a dental conference, and the space outside the breakfast room is the commercial exhibition. Leaving breakfast to be faced with a stall covered in dentist's tools was not an experience I had on my list for today...
That really must be a shocking sight, especially for a British man! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hm, Orinoco may be a challenge! Bungo at least you have options for - Indonesia, Japan, Angola, and curiously a suburb of Edinburgh. I wonder which one the name was done for...! Apparently there's a Tobermory on either side of the Atlantic too so there's options there.
And so to Serbia, via some rather scenic country. There is internet here too :) Alas, data roaming is horribly expensive, so I'm using hotel WiFi.
I was in Salzburg last weekend, and tomorrow I'm off to Ireland, both for Digital Humanities conferences. Galway will be an interesting new experience!
Have a guinness or two for me!
Ecch, do I have to? :P
Yes.
Hope it's a good trip!
Oh and if you find out what the "craic" is could you tell me? Nobody seems to know.
Have fun! I think there's cider in Ireland, so you might not be forced to sample 'the black stuff'. It looks as if you might be particularly lucky and get a whole day of dry, bright weather :)
No-one knows what the craic is. No-one can know what the craic is - no merely human mind can encompass its sublime mysteries. But it's always good, apparently.
I am duly in Ireland. I have not yet discovered the craic, though that's partly me being so tired I've barely left my airbnb so far!
Get some guinness delivered to your flat. :)
Salut mes amis!
I shall be away for a week in France, back next Tues.
Have fun! :)
Have fun with the Frenchmen.
Bad flare-up of health problems and typing/mouse use are currently quite painful for me, so am likely to be around less for a while until that eases up. Apologies :(
:(
I'm going to cyprus tomorrow for potentially up to 6 months. So so I'm likely to be less available, not "away" as such though. Thought I'd mention :)
Safe travels!
London until Sunday! May be limited access because I'm going to have to work hard to pretend I'm more of a real academic than I actually feel like I am for a bit.
Good luck!
Danke! Meeting now done, tired but it went well.
On the iron road again - this time a two day trip to Maastricht and Opglabbeek, my first time visiting the Low Countries. Should be interesting :)
In Georgia until July 25. Some internet but probably a bit limited.
გამარჯობა თბილისისგან!
Welcome back to the states m8.
I'm on holiday for 10 days in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, specifically southern Austria for a few days, then Vienna, southeastern Czech Republic, and western Slovakia.
Meanwhile my travels are finally over and I'm back home in tge aforementioned former Austro-Hungarian Empire, specifically its capital, where I will see Glaurung when he passes through in a few days :)
London is a great choice I think.
I'm leavin'.
Is it to London? I hear it's a great choice
Glaurung meanwhile passed through Vienna again today and is now, I believe, safely back in the UK :) He may even have flown to one of the London airports, which I'm sure was a great choice.
It's definitely not London. Bad choice. Wouldn't recommend.
Can confirm I am back in the UK, having flown to a London airport. This was indeed a great choice, since it's the airport nearest to home.
Yes. You can fly from Vienna to the UK without going via London, but the Manchester to Cambridge journey would be rather annoyingly long once you got there (plus I suspect the flight is more expensive to start with).
Ha. Annoyingly long. You know nothing of annoyingly long flights. :P :( :'(
I was talking about an annoyingly long train journey :P
My point exactly.
Also no train journey could be annoyingly long for G methinks.

So far my limit seems to be about 30 hours on a single train: Cairns to Brisbane, in Australia, or Chicago to western Arizona. I'm about willing to tolerate one night on a train, but two in succession feels like too much. A week on a single train (e.g. the Trans-Siberian railway) is almost certainly too much - I'd want to have breaks along the way.
I was technically away in Cyprus and Fiji since April, but am now back in Blighty for a good while.
Well, I'm back.
Welcome home everyone :)
And now some forthcoming awayness: Spain for six days, Friday 24th to Wednesday 29th January inclusive. Starting and ending in Madrid, with a four-day circular tour of southwestern Spain by train.
Hope you enjoy it! :)
Sounds lovely! Please disregard my suggestion of Winnipeg on the other thread. This sounds far more fun.
And so it begins: I'm now on a train to the airport. Next comes the ineffable joy of airport security, and then a Ryanair flight. In one small ray of hope, the inbound flight whose plane will probably form my flight is shown as expected on time at the moment.
EDIT: The plane left slightly late, but arrived slightly early, and I got to Madrid city centre earlier than expected for my afternoon trip to Toledo. To my disappointment, the turtle pond at Atocha station has been filled in since my last visit, due to people dumping their own unwanted pet turtles and fish in it. So now it's just a big tropical garden.
Further Edit: Toledo is wonderful, and you should all visit it.
Not that i usually announce my long absences, but i am travelling around alot from tomorrow and have no internet while i visit friends to drink/watch the superbowl. Be back sometime late next week.

I've travelled through there a couple of times, but didn't have a chance to stop and form an opinion. No, this was another Toledo, east of the Atlantic, older and probably smaller. I very much enjoyed what I had time to see in 2-3 hours; 2-3 days would be a more reasonable length of stay, or even longer if you're into El Greco and various other artists of the same period.
I'm off to Tunis for four nights. Not expecting that this will hugely reduce my activity, but we'll see.
Hooray!

Ha!
I've been fairly busy recently so apologies about not being especially active. I'm also going to be away from home pretty much until the 20th, so might not be posting much.
BUT! I haven't forgotten about the forum quiz so I'll post that up once I'm back.
Sorry, a bit late for "going to be away": I am away, having a few days' holiday in Austria. I may be meeting up with our illustrious Megadux...
I'm going now. This is the end. GOOODBYE
ps
I'm off to Zambia for a couple of weeks, hopefully will have wifi at some point but might be a tad busy. Forgot where the travellings thread was.
Post above duly moved and merged from where it was posted, in the Kitchen Gardening (https://exilian.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6152.msg151882#msg151882) thread of all places, to the under-used Going to be Away? thread where it was presumably intended to be.
Also, it really doesn't make much sense for Going To Be Away to still live in Announcements, we should maybe think about moving it to the Boozer?
Makes sense to me ^
No sense, never sense, not a drop of sense. Kitchen gardening is clearly where it belongs.
Also I'm back.
Welcome back, and congratulations again on your news from the trip :)
I'm away for the next week on the Black Sea coast, though I should still have internet access.
I'm in Konstanz and then Liechtenstein this week, though I should still be able to post a bit in the evenings.

Agreed.
In a momentous occasion of great and rare change on the forum, this topic has been duly moved after its sixteen years in the Announcements section!
Also hello from Konstanz, I saw pretty medieval books and some grebes and a nightingale today so I think it's all going OK so far. Got to get up and give a talk in the morning though so hopefully that'll also go not-catastrophically...
In news that I'm sure will shock all regular forumites, I'm about to have a six-day holiday in Germany. - flying out tomorrow, back next Wednesday. I will probably be checking the forum now and then, but not as frequently as usual.
Have fun! Where in Germany are you heading this time? :)
Niedersachsen, in the north: 2 nights in Bremen, and 3 nights in Hannover. There's an enthusiast special train trip on Saturday, and then I'll meandering around on a Deutschland-Ticket.
Ah, excellent :)
I'm meanwhile going to be away from Sunday onwards: I'll be in the UK for my sister's wedding the following weekend, and then returning to Vienna on the 12th.
I'm not physically away this weekend, but I do have a friend staying until sometime on Tuesday so I may be more limited in replies until then.
I'm going to be in Hungary until the 13th, should still have phone internet available etc.
