In about a week, I am going to run a zetaboards conversion script that will collect posts, threads and member info from here and plant them into our SMF forum. If this works out, we can move over to SMF with little disruption and our accounts intact. Feel free to post on here while the conversion happens, but some posts may be lost if they are made post conversion.
Even if this works out, I'll still have to check how it looks on SMF and make sure it is all working before we can pile over. If it doesn't work out, we can still hang here with no issues, if it does we can all move over.
Why SMF?
Back before Exilian, it was Mixed Mods, and I had my own forum software, and since Invisionfree/Zetaboards, I've missed the control and freedom I had with SMF. Being able to so what I want, change what I want etc. has always been a plus for me, and hopefully will be for other admins. It also means I can get rid of the bloody adverts, which give money to no one but ZB.
New Theme
Bear in mind the SMF board has no Exilian theme atm, if anyone feels sufficiently skilled enough to make one, they are free to do so and PM it to me.
So, big changes coming up, but whatever happens, the board and it's posts and members will be safe. ZB will only be removed once we are 100% sure that the SMF board is functioning properly and has all data. Although losing the mass of spam posts from '08 wouldn't be any huge loss to me. :P

OK, this is happening now, your accounts will be transferred, but passwords will be changed, you should all get a message telling you your new random password. Log in and change it to something you can remember.

Looking at the messages so far, a fair few custom fields in member info won't be transferred, so these will have to be set up again, but so far so good.

A theme should be incoming; longer processes will be getting modding forums moved across (passcoded forums seem to have messed up the converter) And I've got to find all the bloomin' Citizens and give them their rank again.

Member name colours and password protect boards added in. I love mods.
I'm going to hold off going to SMF 2.0. On the one hand, the features that we have mods for atm may be in there by default, but if they aren't there may not be a compatible mod for them.

Thought I'd point out that all the polls on topics in the plaza don't seem to have been brought over...
I'll redo them, but we should probably restart (as in have the full length of time to vote again) the voting on them.

Hmm, great stuff and everything. I don't really see a reason for using SMF 1 though... 2 looks better and is easier to use, IMO. And there shouldn't be too many mods that don't exist for 2, but for 1, that you really need.

We might move to 2 at some stage, but 1 seems to be pretty good for now. I think a move from 1 to 2 wouldn't be massively difficult, but we're concentrating for the time being on settling in and getting things sorted out between the old and new forum. Minimising disruption is, thusly, priority #1.

The other factor I need to admit is that I do have 9 exams in the next month or so, which is slowing my workrate; I'd be much more likely to consider a second change (if there is the appetite for it) in July when I've got more time to do any manual work on it that needs doing. Marcus has done pretty much all the heavy lifting on this move.
Anyway, good to see you around again and do take a poke round all the various areas of the site. :)

Does that start from now? I.e. Get over 1000 posts, some have that already? Therefore, doesn't count?

I think we've ruled it does start from now (in order to stop us trawling through every mod release we've ever done counting up points), so you'll have to hit the 2k mark before getting points for it (It's get over a 1000 post mark, so you get points for hitting 2k, 3k, 4k, etc). Get working on it. ;)

The rationale for moving to SMF 1.1 is purely because the script I used to shift the posts only works with 1.1. When 2.0 is stable (I know it pretty much is already but officially) I will transfer.

I've noticed that some posts from before the transition have been cut off before the end. It doesn't seem to be posts over a certain word limit or to have any rationale to it; seemingly just random.

My apologies to all modders whose passworded forums did not get transferred. If I had un passworded the forums beforehand, they would have been transferred (most likely) without fuss. As it stands, I might be able to get them transferred tonight with some jiggery pokery, which basically involves un passwording the forums at ZB, running the script again, then importing the data to the forum database here. I won't be able to do it before midnight GMT mind, since the broadband package where I live puts a limit on downloads during the day, and I'll have to run the entire script again. I'll only be importing the thread data though. I also don't know how it will react with existing posts, so I will have to look that up before I do anything, because I don't want all the recent posts here to be wiped because of this.

Unfortunately, I have discovered that if I import the rectified data from the old forum and upload it, it will overwrite what we have here, which I'm not prepared to do. If I had caught it on conversion day, I could have sorted it, but at this point it would be another unneeded disruption. So you'll have to shift your stuff manually. Sorry guys.

Thanks. I've kind of buried myself in modding Morrowind and started seriously working on a Hordelands Total Conversion for it. It is going to take so much work and A LOT of time, but it's going to be great. I'm going to be able to do so much more than I ever could for Mount & Blade. I'll start a thread about it soon.
