Title: Sea Battles
Post by: jmilan77 on May 28, 2011, 05:26:43 PM
I have now decided to keep the community up together with what we are doing, im going to tell you what we are working on for our next big them.

We are working bringing sea battles to the battle map. This will bring the sea faring nations like carthage and illyria, will become important nations. This will probably be the last major break through for the rtw engine.

How were gonna do it is retexture floor so its like sea, then with a model of the boat we can have animations for oars and sails, then to implement the battle map on the campiagn. We will make it a custon battle first to make it easire too implement so when its finally implemented it will have most of the fixes already done. As i leave you here is a picture of one ship. please leave comments. if i dont reply thats because im away for a wk.

Woooooah.

I wonder how this will work out. Possible, but hopefully it won't be very buggy.

The best of luck matey!

Thanks for your comments. In theory it will only b as bugy as the battlefield. In theory terms it's not to hard, but carrying out the theory will be hard.

We shall release any updates on this subject as soon as we can as this will be quite a break through area.
Were now already progressing with a delegated ship leader and everything being highlighted

This could be pretty big; it's a pity you won't be able to keep the animated water, but hopefully it'll work fine.  :)

Now that's an interesting project ... Maybe the same thing could be done in MTW2 engine...

Good luck !

Thanks mate yes in theory the same can be applied in the med engine as it is mostly just new animations, that's were most of the work lies :)

Well its still all in development at the moment but it may be going with thinking its an elephant and then making the water as if it is a massive river were you cross

This sounds like a pro dev team, you know, dedicating members to specific chores and stuff...

Or I haven't modded enough

hmm Do we need to worry about boats going on a rampage? :)  I'm joking.  I'm sure you guys have that worked out even if the game thinks they are elephants.  I look forward to seeing some animated versions in the future.  Will there be a video made of a ship battle to show what it will be like?  It would be very interesting to see the siege engines fire from ships.  You read about this stuff in the info cards and I've always wanted to see the battles play out.  Naval power could change the game big time!

Flavius aetieus will make one at the twc and I shall release one here for all of you so you can implement into your mods :)

Nice.  Hopefully someone will want to add that in for M2TW :)

Yes we are creating a version for med 2 as well taking advantage of the updated script options, that is going on in background though as we are still concentrating on getting the cores of the mod finished yet for 0.89, we do desperately need someone to help us with descr_strat for implementing new factions, and also someone to help add new settlements as we are trying to do so many things our teams man power is getting stretched and making things take longer, but I suppose this happens to anyone when you get more experienced and understand how to mod different aspects :) anyway yes anyone that could help we would love them to join our team :)

Wait, you started working on the med2 version?

And small tip, I'd release the post on how to make sea battles after the release of 0.89, that way you can use RVTW as an example ;)

Yep that is what we are going to do ;) no we havnt yet our boat leader says he is retiring after we release the sea battles and that's the last thing he wants to do :) but we do do really need people to help us though :)

If I had time I'd help with something....modding skills way rusty anyway.  I work most of the time now and have little free.  What time I have for gaming these day I spent enjoying the work of others.

I do have one question about the M2TW version you mentioned.  Is it going to be a Roma Vice total conversion, or basically a complete overhaul for M2TW like you've done for RTW with Roma Vice?

Well we are planning a med 2 version, wht we will do is port our base mod over when ts done from rome total war, just requires making some changes to each model and that so the engine can read the files and then we shall build from that like having more than one face in the units and that kind of thing. :)

At the moment adding a complete new ancillary and trait system :)

I read that when the sea battles get finished, you will release the ships, animations and the text files so other users can put them in their mods. Is this true?

Like this idea a lot - Rome Total War really missed out by not including sea battles
