Title: The Additional Unit Pack
Post by: Andalus on August 09, 2008, 12:31:52 PM
I bring greeting from the heavens, my brethren.
I also brought my little friend...

That's right, the Additional Unit Pack Version 1.1 is now available for download.

This mod for RTW 1.5 adds 23 new units to the game, using mostly original textures and models. It aims to fill gaps in unit rosters, giving factions access to units they did not have before. It uses mod:switch so it will not affect your original game files.
The excellent unit cards were made by Private Clark.

1.1 is only being released as a patch which fixes bugs, adds a few new skins, and tweaks a few units. If you have not downloaded version 1.0, you must do this first.

Note that this is version 1.1. Another version with plenty more new units may be up soon.

I am open to any feedback, on faults, balancing, suggestions, even spelling mistakes. Just do not come blabbering to me about historical accuracy. As a historian myself, I am aware of how apocryphal most of these units are. AUP presents a 'what if' situation.

What if the Parthians had developed an elite core of heavy infantry?
What if the Britons had utilised cavalry to a greater extent?
What if the Greeks had used horse archers as a counter to those they faced?

But enough of my rambling, you can download this at Filefront with the following link:

Or take a look at these screenshots:

Though I say so myself, the new skin for Poeni Legionaries is wonderful...

There was a slight problem with the 1.1 upload, so I have now put up 1.1b, which should work fine.

A little white lie, there, CN2. RTW saves are not quite compatible, because of changes I made to general's units. I may include an option to use the original generals in the next version.

But saves from AUP 1.0 are fine.

It may do later. You may come into trouble with some Roman Generals. I'm not sure.

EDIT: The above is me talking rubbish. Ignore it.

Sorry for restarting such as old thread, but I've been looking for this map pack on other sites and can't be able to find it or other ones like it. The link doesn't work anymore, and if anyone has the files or a link to another download it I would really appreciate it.

(I did just make this account to ask this question)

I think I saw that the OP is still active, so maybe he may notice this little post and possibly post a link :D

Again, sorry for reviving such an old thread, I just would love to try this and I can't really find any other unit packs out there.

Wait, do you want a map pack, or this unit pack?

In any case, here's Andalus' Additional Unit Pack, v1.1 (https://rapidshare.com/#!download|391p12|4147096597|AUP_1_1_b.zip|10960|0|0). Enjoy!

And feel free to stay... there's nothing that impedes you from not staying here ;)

Is the AUP in any way compatible with the Steam version of Rome? My attempts with it and the shortcut haven't gone so well and im dying to play with these units  :(

It should be compatible. What problems are you having?

Having issues setting up the shortcut maybe that's just my fault. Not sure which paths to use for the shortcut etc because it will end up telling me its invalid or doesn't exist

Have you ever set up any other command-line mods with steam or is this the first time you've tried?

Try this guide, if it doesn't work come back and we'll try and work something else out.  :)

Steam is rather... complicated... to play mods with, to be honest. It should work if you right click on your "RTW gold" icon, select "Properties" and then "Set Launch Options" where you can type in the following (exclude the apostrophes): " -mod:AUP". It should work with that.

I'm thinking that the guide that Jubal posted is rather outdated... the Steam interface has changed a lot throughout the years. But good to see that it worked ;D !

Deebs, d'you think you could write an up to date guide to it?

Sure, although it doesn't require that much of an effort ;D I might as well make a post summarizing all the extras one can put in the Target path (like "-nm" and the such)
