Title: Warhammer Fantasy RPG: Dark Majesty
Post by: Phoenixguard09 on December 04, 2011, 04:48:43 AM
Ok guys, this here is the game thread for the Warhammer Fantasy RPG, Dark Majesty.

A quick run-through of how this will work:

Basic Actions: Please post here what you wish to do. Do not include in your post how others react to your actions, nor should you attribute an action to another character. If you wish to undertake an action secretly, please pm me where I will determine whether the action is successfully undertaken and will post anything that would be seen by the rest of the party. In the case of whispering, pm the statement to me and I will pass it on through pm. Do not under any circumstances pm another player in character. As the GM I have to know what is being said.

Combat: I do not want this game to become bogged down in combat so most of them will be cut down into sections. Post in this thread what your overall objectives are for the fight. For example:
"I'm going to take the Gor on the left and try to kill it. If it turns out to be too strong I'll fall back." This is a lot better than,
"I kill the Gor on the left and then scare off all the others."
Remember, Warhammer is a nasty world. Things can kill you, and they can do it easily.

If you need help with something you want to do or anything at all, please pm me.

With that being said, my good players, welcome to Dark Majesty!

Player List:
Therix: Cuautemoc, Saurus Mercenary
Jubal: Frederich Tybarino Bagelskuchs, Tilean Halfling Agitator
NightAngel: Tonto Mortal, Bretonnian Bard
Dripping D: Bjorn Jonstrom, Norscan Berserker
Declan Jones: Folstaff Folstaffson, Dwarf Traveller
Mark the Khan: Barnan Arbell, Estalian Soldier

The Celeste comes to a rest in the Bretonnian colony of Bregonne upon the east coast of Lustria just as the sun begins to set. The people of Bregonne seem to be thriving, an appearance which has been encouraged to manifest itself in the face of constant danger and fear. The roving bands of Lizardmen in the jungle, Norse raiders from Skeggi or further north, vicious Amazon tribeswomen from the Dark Heart and even rivals from the other Old Worlder colonies all make punitive attacks on a semi-regular basis. The colony may be thriving but only because the inhabitants live life to their fullest extent now rather than conserve their energy and resources for a tomorrow which may never arrive.

The many passengers aboard the Celeste disperse throughout the burgeoning colony, eager to once again sleep in a bed that isn’t being tossed across the vast ocean.

You awaken to the sounds of thunder and gunfire in the night, rain pouring down from an eerie and uncaring sky. Hurrying out into the night air you find yourself joined by other passengers from the Celeste, also drawn out into the night air.

A woman’s voice calls out from down the dark street in strident Breton, “Help me please I beg you!”

I shout to the others.

"No time to lose men, with me."

I head in the direction of the cry, drawing my rapier as I go.

I'll head in the direction of the cry, trying to keep my head down from any such gunfire that might be flying in my general direction.

EDIT: I'll draw my axe and crossbow as well.

Sidle along the edge of the street towards the cry, staying in shadows as much as possible.

Walking back homeward I hear a distant cry for help and start to run towards the sound with my crossbow ready in my right hand and Espada in my left not knowing what to expect but ready for anything.

OOC: Sorry I'm late, Internet troubles.

I will leave wherever I have been staying (probably some alley down by the docks) and pick up my weapons, before heading towards the sounds of the gunfire. I will move in the middle of the street if there is any cover, otherwise I will stick to the walls.
(If I see any of the other PCs I will try to link up with them)
As I move I will also scan the buildings around me for any signs of movement (generally sinister), while listening out for any fighting close by.

I don't think Alexander's coming back so let's move on.

As you head towards the sounds of conflict, the noise dies down until the streets are silent apart from the sound of the armed passengers moving down the street. Abruptly, Frederich and Folstaff notice a large scaled shape moving up behind them. In the darkness the shape is indistinct but you see that it is at least seven feet tall. It is heading towards you with a large weapon held in its right hand. It appears to be wary, peering into the dark windows that line the street, evidence of the inhabitants of Bregonne lying low during the assault.

Tonto and Bjorn have run on ahead and are joined by an old Estalian with a crossbow and sword. The two of them have reached the north gate of the settlement and are stumped but the newcomer points out the signs of conflict behind them, the footprints, drops of blood and a broken dagger which the other two missed in their haste to get to the gate. From the disturbed ground, the tracks disappear suddenly once they reach within three feet of the closed gate.

Going to give the guys ahead of me a sign to try to indicate I'm not their enemy, (try to make it clear as possible), then try to continue down towards where I heard the shots coming from before, moving faster but still cautiously.
If the guys decide to attack me, sheath or belt my weapons and show that I do not carry a handgun, so I was not one of the combatants.

"I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Barnan but you can just call me Smity." Stumped on where the footprints went to, if anywhere, I suggest that we look on the other side of the gate to see if we can find any sign of whoever or whatever was disturbing the peace. Also confused, I look around for any sign of the unlucky victim.

I stop walking, and lean against a wall in something which hopefully looks like an attempt at nonchalance, facing the approaching figure to see what it/he turns out to be.

"Bjorn's the name, raiding's the game. Wonder what happened here?"

How much blood is there? Are the tracks human-esqe? Is there a trail of blood, if so follow it.

Title: Re: Warhammer Fantasy RPG: Dark Majesty

The gate itself is rather large and heavy and will require more than just the three of you to open it. The watchmen who would usually be responsible for guarding the gate seem to have disappeared. However many victims there are have disappeared along side them.

To Bjorn's relatively untrained eye, the tracks appear to be human. There isn't much blood but the drops have been scattered liberally. There is no trail, both blood and tracks cease to exist right at the gate.

BTW just waiting for Folstaff to make his action before we can move on.

Ignoring the approaching Saurus, Folstaff makes his way towards the gate. Not noticing the small halfling slouched up against the wall of one of the houses lining the quiet street, Cuautemoc follows the dwarf.

Tonto looks around but it appears that the only way to open the gate is to physically shove it open.

Before anyone can react to the Saurus which has just arrived a voice barks out from behind you in gruff Breton. "Drop your weapons now! You have some explaining to do." Looking back you can see a middle-aged Bretonnian man wearing chain and a heraldic tabard with a longsword at his belt. Behind him stands over twenty watchmen. He see Cuautemoc and gives a gasp of surprise. "Consorting with a lizard too! This better be good."

Still hidden against the wall, attempting to look inconspicuous, Frederich stands behind the knot of men in the street, free for now.

Post by: Phoenixguard09 on December 08, 2011, 09:25:01 AM
The man's tabard is adorned with the following blazon.

A sea dragon haurient argent on an azure field.

To Tonto's eye, this indicates that the man is from the Bretonnian Dukedom of L'Anguille however upon his left jerkin pocket he bears the coat of arms of Bregonne, indicating that he is some sort of official in the colony. Behind him, the watchmen all bear the colony's coat of arms too.

"My name is Barnan, good sir. We did not commit this horrible crime. We just heard a scream and came to investigate. As you see my Espada is not bloody and my quiver is full." As I sheath my blade I look around to see if there is any escape route just in case things get a bit out of hand.

I will sheathe my weapons but refuse to drop them, and do my best to be complacent. My hands will hang near my weapon and shield, again, in case things get out of hand.
I will also place on fist across my chest and make a quick bow before returning to the aforementioned stance.

Okay, I have a few questions as to what I can see. Namely; are we in the main street? If so, are there any shops nearby, are they open, and what are they? Ditto for taverns. If we're not in the main street, where is that said street? And assuming (as I think we are) that the colony is on the shore, is the gate we're discussing a landward gate, a port gate (if it has any), or one that leads along the shore?

I'll try and assume a stance sufficiently assertive to dissuade confrontation with the watchmen, but I'll sheath Azdurak (which is my axe, for the record).

OOC: ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ! (Come and get them!)

Sheath weapon, and bow towards knightly dude
"Whatever foul events happened here certainly had nothing to do with us, the lizard however I cannot say. We were woken by gunfire and a woman's scream and rushed to the source."
Title: Re: Warhammer Fantasy RPG: Dark Majesty
Post by: Phoenixguard09 on December 09, 2011, 06:27:22 AM
The gate is situated on the main street. As it is late at night and due to the attacks all of the shops, stall, taverns etc are closed and the houses appear deserted as the people inside lie low. The street leads to the western edge of the settlement which is the west gate. The main street leads out onto three trails which lead to the outlying hamlets. Back towards the Black Crown Inn (which is close to the centre of the colony) the street leads onwards toward the docks. To the immediate north of the docks is the keep of Bregonne itself, the abode of the Lord Gormont, Marquis of Bregonne.

I'm in the process of drawing up a map of Bregonne and the outlying hamlets. Sorry for the wait.

"We know of you Barnan. An itinerant traveller you are, more trouble than you're worth really. As for the rest of you, I see no real reason to believe anything you have to say. You!" he gestures pointedly at Tonto, "Don't assume by our shared heritage that you are any kinsman of mine! Now, unless you have any legitimate explanation for why you are here at the scene of the crime and why you are consorting with a Lizard, you are all under arrest for consorting with the Dark Powers. You can come peacefully or with the help of my men's weapons. What would you prefer?" The way he says this suggests that he doesn't really want to hear your excuses.

It seems that he really doesn't care what you have to say. On the other hand, fighting your way out might cause more problems than it would solve.

There are two streets to either side that run along the outer wall of the colony but the watchmen have closed ranks around you. All of you bar Frederich are hemmed in against the gate.

Several watchmen are carrying crossbows, the majority of which are being held in a vaguely threatening manner towards the growling and savage Lizardman.

The other watchmen have a liberal mix of arming swords, maces and spears and held ready at their sides, a large heater shield held on their off-arms. The leader bears a longsword still in it's scabbard at his belt and appears to have at least two daggers on him, one thrust through his belt and the other sheathed in the top of his boot.

Yes NightAngel you may challenge him if you wish but you must remember, this is a far-flung colony, a long way from home. The chivalrous side of many of the high-ranking nobles over here may not be present.

I smile at his ignorance, unstring my crossbow and say "If I'm more trouble than it's worth than maybe you should just let me go, or better yet, let the rest go and take me instead. We are here the same reason you are. We were in the vicinity and heard a noise. If you really think we did this than look around. Is there a body? No. Interrogate us, torture us, kill use one by one. We have nothing to hide. You have no evidence that any one of us did it."
Title: Re: Warhammer Fantasy RPG: Dark Majesty
Post by: Phoenixguard09 on December 10, 2011, 04:37:14 AM
You look around but you are all well and truly surrounded. At your backs is the closed gate itself. The thing is a huge wooden affair and would take at least eight strong men to pull open. It swings inwards obviously. The wall itself is made of many vertical logs which have been secured together through a variety of methods. Between the distinct lack of handholds and the sheer height of the ten foot wall it is unscaleable. Any streets, alleyways, etcetera are securely blocked by the watchmen.

I get out my poetry book, got down on one knee and begin quiety making a pryer to The Lady.

The man levels his gaze at Barnan first and answers him. "I'm the Marshal of Bregonne's forces Barnan Arbell.  My authority is unquestioned in this colony. If I say I will take all of you, I will." At this point he turns to Tonto. "However," he continues, "You, have declared a challenge. Upon my honour I must accept the challenge however I refuse your terms boy. Your friends go with my men either way. On the other hand, if you can somehow defeat me in single combat, you're free to leave. I will be keeping an eye on you either way, boy."

He draws his longsword from its scabbard. "Now what say you?"

I can't remember if this was stated in the PM's I sent to everyone with the profiles but it would probably be a good idea to save your profiles to a Word document or something similar.

NightAngel you'll need to describe how Tonto's approaching this fight if he's going to go ahead with it. At the very least whether he's going to focus more on offensive or defensive actions. In addition to this any called shots he wants to make, anything like that.

"Leave it alone boy. I think you have bitten off more than you can chew" I say to Tonto. "And sir Marshal" I say mockingly "What exactly were you saying was unquestionable?"

I face the Saurus and secretively point to him, me and the rest of us than to the gate than shrug. Being a Saurus he should know if were strong enough together to open it. With he being the big guy he is with the "BIG viking" and the Ogre and the rest of us I have the slightest hope that me might pull it off. Than again maybe not. The crossbowmen would kill us all before we even touch the gate.

Title: Re: Warhammer Fantasy RPG: Dark Majesty

Keeping his sword level and held in both hands the Marshal faces Barnan. His face contorts with anger. "My authority damn you Barnan!" He turns to his men. "Relieve these impudent scum of their weapons and escort them to the Marquis' dungeons." Taking another look at the hulking Saurus he adds, "And get a muzzle for that hing too!"  The watchmen crowd in, however they make no move toward Tonto who may still end up fighting the Marshall.

Just a few points. First Cuautemoc is not strong enough to open the gate. Perhaps if all of you were to work hard and give it a good heave you might be able to get it open but regardless it would be slow work. The thing is huge and heavy, built to resist the pounding blows that the huge denizens of the jungle have unleashed on it in the past. (Lustria's full of carnivorous dinosaurs remember?)

Second, Alexander's not playing so there's no Ogre.

Third, yes Crowns are a basic way of measuring currency. Now just because it says 5 Crowns or whatever doesn't actually mean you have 5 Gold coins from the Empire, it's just an equivalent measure of wealth that might be measured in the Estalian coins, spices, furs, who knows? It's just an easy way to mark it down. That being said, 5 Crowns is a pretty substantial bet.

Lastly, your options here are pretty limited at the moment. You can cause a fuss and try to break free or you could go quietly. Whichever you go with, the time for talking is now pretty much over.

Well just to let you all now what's going on at the moment.

Bjorn, Cuautemoc, Folstaff, Barnan and Tonto are surrounded by twenty-odd watchmen and the Marshal of Bregonne who all have weapons held ready and have moved in to apprehend the suspects. Tonto and Barnan are at the fore of the group while Folstaff is standing on the left flank of the group, Bjorn is leaning nonchalantly against the gate and Cuautemoc is staring down the watchmen on the right flank. Tonto is of course kneeling, praying and reading from his large, leather-bound tome and Barnan is engaged in some rather choice words with the irate Marshal.

Frederich on the other hand is hunkered down nicely further along the street, pawing through his bag as he's feeling a little peckish.

To answer Therix, you'd expect that your weapons would likely be kept in some kind of store-room. However you wouldn't be told where. They may even be tossed out, melted down or otherwise destroyed somehow. When you say you won't let them, is this going to be violent refusal or just a stubborn, "I'm taller than you, so try it suckers!" ?

I'll be on the defence trying to strike his hand.

Getting rather worried at the direction this is going I say "Every one stop. It's hopeless, just give up" I throw my sword and crossbow at the ground in front of the Marshal and slowly walk over his direction.

OOC: Guys there's no sense in getting into a fight you quite clearly can't win.

Let me and Jubal escape and we'll bust you out.

Fine, whatever, but they aren't taking my stuff OR putting a muzzle on me.

I'll comply with the guards' wishes for now, given that fighting will clearly get us messily killed.

After some extended discussion involving raised eyebrows and discrete looks, Barnan, Folstaff and Bjorn hand their weapons over to the surrounding guardsmen who intend to march them towards the fortified citadel of Bregonne. Cuautemoc on the other hand stands tall abjectly refuses to be muzzled. Eventually the Marshall abandons the idea and simply holds out his hand in a non-verbal request for the Saurus' weaponry.

Only Tonto is left, who draws his rapier and stands ready with a defensive guard. The Marshall draws his own sword, a large weapon with about four feet in the blade. Tonto's rapier is woefully outmatched. Striking fast, Tonto tries to smash the flat of his blade upon the back of the older man's hand. The edge of the blade catches on the crossguard of the longsword and the rapier is wrenched from Tonto's hand.

And now I must wait for NightAngel just to see what he's going to do.

I hand over my mace and shield, but make it as clear as possible if they are not kept well then the consequences will be grim.
Also, any attempt to cuff me is...unadvisable.

second no wait third time this has happened to me in RPGs, run off weapons drawn and then get blamed for something we didn't do

I'd like to head towards the nearest inn or tavern, assuming none of them are open I'll just sit around outside and try and get a brief bit of rest until the morning.

At this moment, a bolt of lightning streaks down from the sky, blasting the Marshal senseless as he is hurled backwards into his men. He is blackened and charred but not dead as he begins to roll on the ground in an attempt to extinguish the flames.

Oh great...mental dilemma here...
Well, I still can't do anything to the marshal, since he is still technically in a challenge, and being a law-abiding young lizard, I still understand the rules of the duel.
I will just lean against the gate, watching the show.

Grab sword and declare.

"Thank you Lady!

Well marshal it would appear the divine does not look kindly on arresting on baseless allegations.

Do you yield?"

Grant the saurus the sign of the twin-tailed comet (flick the V at the saurus)

OOC:just cus we're the PCs doesnt mean we all have to work together on one big plan
self preservation is the key!

RPGs where all the PCs work together are fun but moments like this are too good to miss

(even if it is a sign of the lady, i doubt this happens alot so black magic is most peoples explanation, especially as The Lady just struck down a knight of brettonia, most citizens will assume chaoatic intervention)

I don't understand the V sign. I'm a saurus, not a human.
The voice of inspiration clouts Bjorn round the side of the head. "Clearly ones intentions were better than the other's."

Folstaff stands and looks completely unperturbed (while inwardly trying to seem as unperturbed as one can in such a situation).

I take you to one side.

"Friend let me tell you something. See that man? Him, he wants to kill you he wants to lock you in his nice little dungeon and burn you without a reasonable trial, under wrong accusations.

I on the other hand want to take you out of said dungeon where will remain alive, does that sound nice? Does it?

Then shut up."

I thought the duel was for your safety, even if you beat the marshal I doubt his men will let us walk out alive so, 'friend', let us comply, the more we fight the more swift our deaths will be. And quite frankly this isn't the way I want my saga to end. Best of luck anyway, may Ulric smile upon you.

Yeah I'm sorry about that but honestly I think we (well I really) sort of lost track of it. It's the first time I tried to GM an actual RPG on a forum and I think I screwed it up.

Sorry again guys,
