Title: Britannia BC
Post by: Son of the King on April 01, 2008, 10:49:57 PM
(http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p9/Son_Of_The_King/RTW/Britannia%20BC/bannerv2.jpg) (http://britanniabcmod.bravehost.com/)

Britannia BC is a mod for Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion. It covers the Iron Age period in Britain. The main campaign will begin in 270 BC, the late Iron Age and last until the Romans finally conquered Britain in 43 AD.

Britannia BC is not intended to be historically accurate in any way at all, and the main reason for its development is that I want to, and always have wanted to play as the British Tribes in RTW, and conquer all of Britain in the name of the Iceni. Slowly, this vision is becoming reality.

My thanks go to PrivateClark for helping me with models because of my expensive-software-phobia. Also, thanks to SrJamesTyrrel for his gift to this mod, the La Tene captain. More thanks to Andalus, for allowing me to use his Gallic Cavalry texture, and PC's model.

Factions

The following factions will be represented in this mod:
There is one faction slot free. Anyone got any ideas?

Map

The campaign map is intended to cover Britain, Ireland and North-West France. However, CaesarVincens was making the map for me, but I haven't heard from him in a long time so I don't know at the moment since I can't get it to work at all :-/ . Anyone here a mapper?

Thanks :)

I have a question though... Do you think the helmets look too Eastern?
Title: Britannia BC
Post by: Jubal on April 02, 2008, 03:01:18 PM
No, but I'd colour them bronzey/gold or darker iron coloured.

I thought so... Too much Dodge...

The region map is almost done btw, and I'm not looking forward to the height map                                                      .

Still need to fix the unaligned shield and the helmet colour properly though...

Also, can RTW models be edited in Gmax?

They will probably be recuitable to numerous factions, but this texture is for the Trinovantes.

PC, I'll email you the shield and the texture for this unit, can you please work your 3ds magic on them?

Hmm, the shoulder is sorta poking through the shield in one of them. Not very hard to fix id imagine, let me know if you want that changed  ;)                                                          .

Also, you should probably take the helmet texture i made and put it on those retextured saxon keel in the OP, their helmets are a bit flat white as well.

Fitzroy is Latin for son of the king. Hence why Henry VIII's bastard son was called Henry Fitzroy.

I always have a strong urge to call you it, Fitz.

Many thanks to SrJames for his gift to this mod, a new officer, seen here leading Iceni Guards to battle.

A bit of topic but I think you may be wrong there. Becuase the latin for king is rex (filius could be the fi part but where the :)                                                       does the roy come from?)
t' mod looks good, is there any progress on the map?

Well French for King is Roi, so I'm guessing somewhere similar to that. The Fitz part is the "Son of" bit.

Post by: Jubal on October 17, 2008, 08:50:28 PM
In fact it would be truer to say that Fitzroy is old french for son of the king.

Shockingly, I have poked this mod with the fire poker that I didn't bring back from my holiday. In other words I have actually made progress for the first time since what seems like forever. I've done nearly all the Iceni missile units, and so now only have their variation of Heavy Spearmen and their chariots left to do. So much for a demo early in the year :$ . At the rate I'm going the demo will be early 2100 lol.

Been doing UI work recently as you can probably tell. Got unit cards for all the Iceni units I have created so far as well. I hope to have the Iceni finished soon (read in a few weeks). Should be able to get a good bit of work done soon since I've nearly finished with exams and stuff.

I've also done the Fenland Cavalry today, not taken a screenshot yet though.

Got to do these 6, then more for the Trinovantes. Then I will release what will be more of a teaser than a demo featuring these two factions in custom battles. Then I will get to work on the Catuvellauni and the Ordovices, although I will definitely need the help of someone with 3d Studio for the latter, and possibly for the former as well.

Anyways, onto the Slingers :D .

Incidentally, its the screenshot which hasn't worked, rather than making an actual campaign map work (I still love you for this CG). If anyone knows why all my screenshots are black screens then I would be happy to know.

Also for some reason the last letter of the settlement name doesn't appear (Londinium in the region names file, Londiniu in game).

It has something to do with one of the visual effects options (anti-aliasing maybe?), the easiest solution is to push prtscr then alt-tab out of RTW, open up an image editor and paste.

Enter a new line at the end of the file or the game will ignore the last character.

Since I finally have the means to, I have got rid of the weird helmet from the Raiders and Dismounted Raiders, and also given them a shield thats not the alpha channelled one from the sea raider model. Will provide screenshots when I can take screenshots of something other than the desktop behind RTW or a black screen...

I'm planning to somewhat unify the shields across the faction, rather than the mish mash of different styles there currently are. I also plan on redoing a few of the textures (I'm looking at you Saxon Hearth Troops but blue), and generally making the stuff I have better, before finally doing some work on a different faction. I have 3 or 4 months free until uni starts again so might actually get some proper work done this time round.
