The trouble with historical games is that they can only by historically accurate for the start date(s). After that, whatever happens is completely random. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a particularly exciting game.

Sadly I am not detecting much of an increase in excitement, but it should be worth taking a look at.

Why not? I've wanted this for some time now, as long as it has the same kind of variety in units/factions as the original.

I'm sure it will be fun, but I don't think it will be able to top the original. I just see it as taking the same game and adding more bells and whistles (graphics, characters, boats, etc.), which are good, don't take me wrong, but... um... I don't know what point I'm trying to make... I think I might be turning into Jubal. :P

Rome - Total War 4-LIFE

I am kind of with you on that comrade_general. I don't know how to feel at the moment, I mean I have spent so much time playing and now modding RTW. I feel as if nothing could ever replace it

I got pumped up really quickly to see one of my dying hopes to become true, but then I remembered all the crazy armadillo the TW series have gone through (some might say straight up prostitution of the series, dunno who *whistles* I just hate all the DLC crap, aight? :P ). But I just couldn't rest until I found some hard data. I think this is actually the first game ever I'll be so expectant to (I was rather aware of the BF3 development, but I never got the excitement feeling I get with knowing R2TW might come out).

I'm rather torn up, inside... on one hand, it might be really cool to see all the new things they want to implement, and although graphics never have been very important to me, I'm just plain curious to see how the game will actually look. On the other hand, there's RTW, with all it's modding capabilities, and just that overall nice feeling the engine gives you while playing that makes you feel at home (except for every moment you're confronted by the diplomatic changes ingame)... I guess I'll try to remain skeptical and not to build up too much hope... sometimes it's better to prepare for the worst.

Although we all know that we might get even less modding tools that the few ones there are for the Warscape Engine.

My last TW game purchased was the Kingdoms expansion.

You haven't got any of the new ones?

Well, they're not that bad, but not worth the whole price :P I honestly would have paid what a full-price game today costs for RTW... I wish I could count how many hours I've spent there (I think my steam account says like 250 hours, but ever since I got the disks like two or one year ago, I barely play the steam version... and I must have gotten RTW on steam 2009. Best investment EVER)

No, I haven't got any of them.

I suppose I will some day, like you say when the price drops.

Yeah, those succulent summer sales on Steam should be coming around the corner about now.

BTW, don't play any of the games (if you ever get one) without mods. Seriously.

-ETW is bugged to hell, and really lacks interesting features that mods give it (but I only like it above NTW by the feel the game gives, NTW feels way to futuristic.
-NTW and TW:S2 have ridiculously high death rates... it's stressing to play them. They become so much more enjoyable with stats rebalancing mods.

I actually haven't touched TW:S2 since months... still looking for an excuse to install those mods and give it another go (and RTW keeps me coming back!)

It's basically the only TW I play currently... I tried installing a mod for S2TW yesterday, but failed horribly... wasn't too eager to play S2TW in any case...

Yeah, only play Rome and Med 2 cause my technology curse is such that Empire TW won't play without massive lag, to say nothing of Shogun 2.

You're not missing on much though... try borrowing a pc that can run it for 20-40 hours and you'll have your fill of the three games :P (unless you really like a certain period/theme)

Nah I don't like any of those periods much anyway. ;)

Med 2 covers me. Well Call of Warhammer does anyway. :P

Hi there people. I'm new here, as you probably can see.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the Rome 2 banner on totalwar.com. I have spent so much time in Rome 1 it's ridicoulus. I hope the mod support is as good as it is with Rome 1, eventhough it probably won't...

Looking forward to getting to know you people! :)

Hey! I guess we all RTW junkies are rather hyped on the sequel... I'm trying to not formulate any opinions or expectations of it, but it's so hard will the little info we have so far! I'm really looking forward for some trailers in the future :P
