Title: Rome II - Your hopes, your fears, and your expectations?
Post by: Shankbot on September 30, 2012, 01:32:59 PM
What do you guys really think about Rome II, and what are you hoping for?

I have my doubts about it - I expect it will have very high end graphics, poor modding compatibility, and fairly average gameplay. I don't think I'll get it, myself.

Yeah, I am worried about the high-end graphics requirements as well. Modding capability doesn't bother me that much, as I'm not a modder - however if I can't play some awesome mods, CA will have a very sad Shank. ;)

Well, the more we can do the more awesome the mods will be.  :P

Hahaha, fair enough. ;)

Says they are ''trying'' to get the minimum hardware requirements similar or the same as Shogun 2. The game looks pretty damn awesome though.
I don't mod games so that is not an issue for me but..... from what videos I've seen, the game looks genuinely gorgeous. Just hope I have a working computer by the time it comes out!  :)

The graphics look stunning. The whole Omaha-style beach landings are amusing but feel somewhat odd in an ancient setting.

Aye, it looks pretty good right now, so hopefully in a year or so when they release it will really be "the best total war game" to date.

Loving the improvements. All that "darker side of war" and realistic approach.

Considering CA's u-turn on modding recently, I have hopes R2 will be at least as moddable as M2TW.

And MTW2 was the most moddable of them all, right?

Shogun was short lived. At least in my opinion.
Probably because it lacked modding capabilities.

Was that a sarcastic question?

Why?

I mean look at Call of Warhammer, The Third Age and all the other big mods.
I have a feeling that MTW2 had a few more modding options and less restrictions than RTW.
And RTW had tons of options.

Plus, I'm a sucker for Medieval setting.

I think cause it's prettier, more people have put time and effort into pushing M2TW's limitations and such than Rome.

I personally will not get Rome 2 because, regardless of how good it is, my computer will refuse outright to play it. :(

I can't remember much that was wrong with RTW, except the cartoonishness of the units and the poor AI. M2TW brought in some nice little refinements like multiple unit training, so we will have to see what R2 will be like. I just hope it won't be full of bugs on release like ETW was. And I also hope that R2 has plenty of modding options, judging by CA's recent comments, they appear to be swinging in the pro-mod direction, rather than cutting it all out just so they can flog DLC, they seem to think that the two can happily co-exist, which is a plus.
