Title: Resources
Post by: ahowl11 on January 24, 2014, 07:42:20 PM
Hey guys, since we have a few historians here on the team, I thought that we could compile our resources here. Books, websites, pdfs, commentaries, articles, podcasts, maps etc are all resources. Even previews from other mods would be reliable.

These can also be of personal use, for me I'd like the PDF version of Duncan Head's 'Armies of the Macedonian and Punic Wars' book, but scribd wants you to become a member to download pdfs now. Basically stuff that will help us out.

- Armies and Enemies of Imperial Rome - also talks about the late Republican period and the auxilia system;
- Seleucid and Ptolemaic Reformed Armies 168-145 BC, volume 1
- Seleucid and Ptolemaic Reformed Armies 168-145 BC, volume 2

Okay, my articles on TWC regarding Hellenism might be useful for descriptions, most of all:

Athens:

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?593186-Athens-during-the-Hellenistic-age (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?593186-Athens-during-the-Hellenistic-age)

Sparta:

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?584316-Sparta-in-the-hellenistic-period (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?584316-Sparta-in-the-hellenistic-period)

Crete:

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?583003-Crete-in-the-hellenistic-period (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?583003-Crete-in-the-hellenistic-period)

Also, I've got many articles and stuff as PDFs on my computer. If anyone wants anything from that I can upload it if you tell me a site where you want it at and where we don't get problems with copyright ;) (Since most of that I downloaded for free when it was available for a short time, but usually you have to pay for it).

Summarized, I have PDFs in store about the following topics:

- Antiochos IV Epiphanes
- Cretan Slingers
- War between Crete and Rhodes
- Dionysios I. founds Tyndaris
- Ptolemaic possessions in trhe Aegean
- Seleucid and Attalid foundations in Western Asia Minor
- Was Baalbek a Roman base in the 1st century BC?
- The empire of Tarkondimotos
- The area of Teurnia from the 2nd century BC to the first century AD
- Roman slingers
- The Augustan Conquest of modern day Austria & Hungary
- The Water Supply of Petra
- The worship of Savus and Nemesis in Andautonia (This sounds very strange, it translates as ''The worship of (Celtic) gods in Roman Illyria''

Me. But I have not tried something anything like that. However once we get the new factions in, HK will shadow Egypt. We will have to find ways to make public order an issue.

So we would need permission to use these, and then we would need to do some extensive editing to make them fit in to RTR, but CATW can definitely be a resource.

No offense, but they don't seem very good, quality wise.

Hence why I said they would need extensive editing to fit into RTR. The models are good, the textures are not.

I'm not a fan of the uniform textures as well. Man I need a 2d artist!
Title: Re: Resources
Post by: Bercor on February 07, 2014, 11:34:28 PM
Some of the models seem a little too squeezed, but maybe that's caused by the rendering.

Woohoo, finally got a new mouse :). On Topic, I beta Tested for Classical Age Total War for a bit, mostly for bugged units and honestly, this might work. Sure some of the units will need some work and are overly glammed but for the most part they would fit nicely, just take some of the shine off so they could work with the other units. You know z3n is still working on this mod, if you offered him some stuff to help him with his I'm sure he will be willing to share units with you, with permission from coco of course.
Title: Re: Resources
Post by: ahowl11 on February 08, 2014, 11:50:09 PM
Yeah I have a good relationship with z3n and I don't think coco would mind. O think I would just use the models and by then hopefully I'll have a 2d artist who could assign a texture to it.
Glad you have a new mouse, we missed you.

For further reference, here is a link to the French Wikipedia and a map showing the borders of the Aedui confederation. Red are the Aedui, pink their clients, brown their allies, and grey their major ennemies. The map and corresponding article usually refer to Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico

The confederation seems to have included these tribes:

Aedui

Clients: Ambarri, Segusiavi, Mandubii

Confederates: Brannovici, Bellovaci, Bituriges, Senones, Parisii

They also seem to have been on friendly terms with their northern neighbours, the Lingones.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Maps_of_Eduens_people-fr.svg (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Maps_of_Eduens_people-fr.svg)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Map_Gallia_Tribes_Towns.png (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Map_Gallia_Tribes_Towns.png)

This should be of some use gameplay-wise, as it gives us enough reasons to grant them a good number of starting areas. The territories of these tribes encompass cities like Bibracte, Alesia, Avaricum, Lugdunum and Lutetia.

Good luck then. Their manager, in the press conference after the first hand, refered several times to Eintracht Frankfurt as Bayer Leverkusen and said they would easily win in Leverkusen (I'm guessing he was drunk, or is just stupid). Make them remember your name.

Haha yes my mate also mentioned that, and thanks. Wasn't Paulo Sergio manager at Sporting as well? Because, as my signature shows, my second team are Hearts in Scotland, and Paulo Sergio led them to the cup win in 2012 (winning a derby against city rivals Hibs in the final 5-1). Hehe, he was a flop here in Sporting. Most fans didn't like him, me included, and we finished the season in 4th (which it's pretty bad for Sporting). However, he had balls, I give him that. I'm glad he did well for you, though.

For general orientation and if you read about my unit suggestions, you might be a bit confused with all the regions in Asia Minor, so here's an overview of where what is:

And similar with Greece:

Aegean and cities:

Just putting this here. After having read Polybios in detail again I think a consular army should ''officially'' be made up the following way:

1200 Hastati
1200 Principes
600 Triarii
300 Equites
1500 Velites

960 allied Hastati
960 allied Principes
480 allied Triarii
600 Pedites Extraordinarii
600 allied equites
300 allied equites extraordinarii
