So, what do you say? Portugal would be a quite unique faction to start with.
Who's in?
How many turns should each of us play, I think 20 is too much for M2TW's 200 turns so... what about 10?

I'll give it a go. I always find my play progress is too slow to win the campaigns (which is a pain). Though in my current playthrough all of Europe seems to want my head, which doesn't really help!

I find it hard to be bad at the older TW games, the AI is pretty terrible even on VH, most common reason for losing to AI is due to be heavily outnumbered

The recruitment took me a bit of getting used to, but the mechanic is similar. Cannons are a bit of a pain though! Never mind if your mortal enemy gets a pope elected!

Yeah it seems to get a point where you have to deal with the excommunication because you've gotten too big

Shall we make some house rules?:
1-We care about the Pope, but not if he's an hipocryte.
2-Make Balanced armies, not full stacks of the same unit.
3-Use Princesses with care, we don't want to lose an early diplomat. Also, we will only marry her if the husband has at least 3 stars of either Command or Management.
4-Don't send 60 years old men at war.

Open to suggestions.

How about an outline of our overall plan? The two Iberian rebel settlements are a good early target. The moors are quite nice to go for too as the pope doesn't get involved. Agreed on the princess, we don't start with a diplomat so she's quite an asset

Yep, Moors are our initial target. But as soon as we drive them out of Iberia, we should focus on Spain. They must not become too powerful!

The Portugese always do that to me as England... Right pain!

So rebel settlements, moors out of iberia. North Africa has Timbuktu though which is damn good for trade goods. What's our policy on crusades? I guess we'll play the expansion differently depending on who gets excommunicated/invades us?

Crusades will only be followed if we are in the position to do so and we are not dragged in a bloody war. We might take an expeditionary force on Timbuktu as well.

I captured Zaragosa with a little bit of loss. Our princess has allied with the French & gained trade rights & map information from the moors & spain at no cost, though she's had some fairly useless suitors.

We got mailed knights for something, I forget what... but I'm trying to join them to the other troops who are mostly just ones we had hanging around. It may be worth making Zaragosa into a castle when we have some income as I seem to have broken our economy as I usually seem to at the start!

I'll PM the next person on the list (Dripping D) about sending the save file.

Yup, I forgot to mention we have a 'raise the amount of catholics' mission in lisbon which is why I moved the cardinal there. The moors snuck their iman in when I wasn't paying attention.

So we begin.

First order of business...

Disbanded several mailed knights, way too much of a drain on our weak early game economy, and built basic farms in all settlements. Also married off the princess to a pretty decent general, he spawned in Lisbon and spent his time travelling across to Zaragoza (offending the spanish along the way).

Moved any non essential units in eastern provinces into an army commanded by the heir and marched on Valencia

Whilst building rams and ladders our heir gets married, must of been a grand wedding in the siege camp.

Battle begins!

I have 1 ram and 2 ladders attack from the west with the bulk of my force, on the southern flank I have 1 ram and 1 ladder attack with a smaller force in hopes of splitting their forces.

The southern force successfully breach the gate after the western forces' ram is burnt down. My troops were well matched on the western walls and only sheer force of numbers allowed us to take the walls. The enemies towers taking a heavy toll among the missile troops.

The flanking force is charged by mailed knights, missile cav and a bodyguard unit. Forcing me to charge my knights into the scrap to hold the southern gate. Eventually we gain control of the western gate and my general and two mailed knights charge through and into the rear of the desperate fight for the southern gate.

Casualties would of been significantly lower if the pathfinding wasn't so terrible on walls.

Not much occurs in the next few turns, built some mines and tanners and the economy is coming along strong.
Begin converting Valencia into a city as Pamplona is more than enough.

What are you doing there Moors? Turns out it's their Sultan, all by himself right on our border, TARGET ACQUIRED.

Cue rounding up units in Valencia and Lisbon to launch an attack on the Moors.

War is declared upon the Moors and the Valencia force takes out a large Moorish force north of Cordoba. Then I march them onto the capital, didn't have the movement to besiege it though.

Meanwhile our king and some of the Lisbon garrison marches on the Sultan's camp. Ram is built but he surrenders next turn, up to the next player if they capture or kill him.

So this is Portugal now. Pretty good position I reckon, might need to get some more mercs into the army by cordoba though.

Also early on I directed our merchant to Timbuktu...

Nice work! I shoulda moved that merchant on my turn, but I suppose while we were friendly to the moors it didn't really matter. Is the pope still being annoying and demanding chapels everywhere?

But avoid excommunication if you can. Never trust the French, they've stabbed me every damned time. Fortunately, Iberia makes quite a nice wall for them to throw their soldiers at!

The Prince was lost in the siege of Cordoba, but the city was taken. The Moors tried to retake the city but I sallied forth and slayed them all. The King then assembled a large force to take Granada, which is only held by a few men.

The goddamn French thought it would be a good idea to blockade one of our ports so we are now at war with them. The council wants us to blockade the port at Toulouse for 2 turns. A French army was spotted near Zaragoza so I started conscripting an army nearby at Pamplona.

Moneyz is coming in pretty good and we haven't exploded yet, so all is well.

Well as it stands there was a crusade called for Jerusalem just before I was excommunicated so no chance of a crusade against us, I have a diplomat on route to Rome to suck up to the Pope (not sure how to get un-excommunicated?)

So this was rather eventful.

Boring stuff first, I converted some spare castles to cities, keeping Toledo as a recruitment factory. I've also sent 4 more merchants south to Timbuktu, there are some gold/ivory/slaves to the right of our current merchant and I think some more gold/ivory to the left in a different province.

Now for some fun, the pope sent some troops to our shores. They left right away though, but turned down a request to be reconciled even when given free reign to set the requirements. So I recruited an assassin to train up for pope killing as I've seen some last until their early 90s and this one was only 60. Fortunately for us, he died in a few turns and one of our cardinals was elected pretty much unaminously. So that reversed the popes opinion on us and France. I had decided to try to hit France hard while the pope couldn't do anything about it, but carried on because he's on the verge of excommunicating them. I got bordeoux, but didn't reach touluse in my time. Our pope didn't last and is now a polish pope, but the changes in relationships should help a lot!

damn nicely done, I would of kept pamplona a castle until toulouse was secured, I doubt the moors will be a threat unless we make them so, even then the straits can be blocked by a navy, so toledo could easily be converted into a city soon

Toulouse was taken without loss, and then the Pope wanted peace between us and France, so we're sitting easy on that front for now.

The Moors were totally ripe for the taking, so our glorious King took a great force across the sea and literally strolled into the city of Algiers, while further to the west a smaller force is on its way south to take out the small garrison in whatever city is over there.

Otherwise I've just been filling up the construction queues and assassinating things and people.

Just sending it to Wolfie now. It was fairly constructive. The enforced truce witht the French ended and for some reason they emptied the castle to the north of our borders. So I took it.

Marrakesh sallied the turn before it fell, but it fell. I lost a few more men than I'd have liked due to me not spotting some spearmen at the right time...

I also went east to find the final Moorish castle, which fell, though again my losses were larger than I liked as I'm bad at sieges, but that wiped out the moors.

I converted Algeirs to a city as I saw no need for a castle there any more, some of the men are in a position to go south and take Timbuktu and the city to its east whose name I forget, there's another merchant going down there too because why not.

A small force layed siege to my new castle, they were easily got rid of without significant losses.

Unfortunately, Tripoli is under Venitian control, I was hoping we could swing east without needing to worry about upsetting any catholic factions, I left it unseiged for Wolfie to make the call.

Diplomatically, HRE and Scily are now allies, but Milan are getting annoyed with our anti-French stance. We have a border with them so we need to keep an eye on them. If we do want to hit the French, I'd recommend Rennes next as it's fairly poorly defended, unlike Paris and Marseilles.

10, I left turn 59 with just the decision of attacking venice or not left, that way you get all the messages and such for turn 60

I took Marseille and Rennes from the French - against the Pope's wishes. I told him to stick his excommunication up his ass.

Sent an army down to take Timbuktu because it has a cool name.

King Gomie set up a fort on the south-eastern front since the Venetians already have a presence there, but the next person might as well move past them or take them out as well since they can't really retaliate.

The Milanese have sent their Heir into our lands, but there is an army nearby that can crush them, which should be done because we are already at war with them.

There are also a few rebs in the home country to be dealt with.

Other than that - huzzah!

So I tried to install this on my new laptop, seems M2TW hates windows 8... My old laptop is back in Cov so for the next few weeks I'm out. Sorry!

Not quite sure how this works, but I uninstalled it then reinstalled it by going through the setup programs on the disc rather than allowing it to autorun (because it was refusing to do so). It now works! Computers, they never make sense...
