As many of you are aware the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil is nearly upon us and as is common in many workplaces and social clubs we are going to be having a sweepstake!

All those taking part will be assigned one or more of the 32 nations competing in this tournament.

Whoever is lucky enough to get the winning team will get a yet to be decided prize (probably just bragging rights)

So if you are interested in joining please say so, I will randomise the teams on the evening of the 11th (GMT) so everyone has their team(s) before the first game

We've got a bit of everything over here but football refers to Aussie rules, which is nothing much like anything else really. Most of the country follows it predominantly especially Victoria and South Australia which is where I'm from. The only two states it is not big in are New South Wales and Queensland, which is where I live. They're both big on rugby league mainly.

As far as the soccer goes down here, I don't really follow it but I'm pretty sure that the Queensland and SA teams are the two best ones. But I wouldn't know. :P It is definitely called soccer down here though. ;)

The draw that Dripping D has drafted was taken from the seeding of the cup which was done on October 2013, on second thoughts I believe that we should take the draw from the world cup betting odds as this is more a realistic approach as a lot has changed between October and the cup itself, also the seeding was unfair on people who played less games through qualifying (which is why Brazil were seeded at 11th as they didn't have to qualify) and for teams like Italy who had already qualified and put out experimental teams in the last couple of matches and didn't play as well.

What do you guys think?

Othko, Columbia look super hot, definitely one of my fave teams in the tournament, even without their star striker Falcao playing for them! Khan, Ghana lost to USA and will be utterly devastated, you also play Germany next who are the most efficient team in the competition, Ghana will be annihilated! Brazil look decent, although they drew against Mexico!

I suspect they'll give him a suspended ban and a large fine because otherwise Uruguay lose their star player. However, because he's done it before I wouldnt be surprised if they ban him straight away.

On the minus side, Luis Suarez just generally seems to be an awful person all round both for racism and persistent cheating.

On the plus side, I got two teams out of the group stage!  :D

Just need Ecuador to beat France now... not really seeing that happening, but I can hope.

Well, armadillo, I'm probably screwed against Colombia then.

We all have at least 1 team into the R16!

Brazil apparently weren't that impressive, I think going forward SotK maybe has the best hand with France/Chile, or TTG4 with Argentina/USA. I can see both my teams being dumped out in the next round, though I'm holding out for Costa Rica to unexpectedly shock everyone and win the tournament :P

(Seriously though, they should beat Greece I think, then one more shock win against (probably) the Dutch would take them to the semis...)

German supporter now, the Argies have even been pushing the Falklands issue even at the world cup and we more recently fought a war at them.
And our rivalry goes both ways whereas the Germans only care about the Dutch.

Yeah, but Argentina going after the Falklands is just kind of sad rather than a serious rivalry, it's like a puppy staring at a plate of dog biscuits on a shelf six feet above it.
