Being made by successful mod team behind Brytenwalda, this new DLC 'Viking Conquest' features, as one might expect, Vikings. As we all know, everything from childrens' birthday parties to pillaging monasteries are better with vikings and so this game should be M&B Warband: Better Edition.
-
Should be pretty good. Brytenwalda was exceptional quality.
-
Hmm, interesting... should be promising.
-
So, I'm pretty sure we all know about the upcoming Viking expansion for Warband, and recently (Today/Yesterday/Tomorrow/A few days ago) there was released a gameplay video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJx6yQ5wmwY&list=UU26Cwg9HjAR2mGiUQAInQxg) for it. One thing that looks simply amazing about this is the sea combat. It looks to me like the ships may be drivable, and with storms and moving waves as well as sea to land battles... well, lets just say I was at first a bit dubious about it, but now I'm looking forward to it just as much as Bannerlord!
-
MERGED! Sorry, I couldn't see it before. :P
-
so i bought it today, now just got to wait til december
-
I bought it too! Yay! Can't wait! :D
-
preorder? -.- No. No. Noooo. No. Nooooo. Ha hahahahahaha ha hahahahahaha hahaa bahahahahahahaahahahaha no. Goddamn it no!
I have a slight problem with preorders. Even for awesome things.
-
Oh? Please explain? I'm curious. :)
-
eh it's mount and blade
I would be disappointed if it didn't have bugs
-
It's terrible practice for the industry. Some new releases are being rushed out the door asap, chucked on steam with a release date in a few months and then gamers get a product which is either lazily constructed and terrible (Alien: Colonial Marines) or sometimes doesn't even work or are blatantly falsely advertised (War Z). This is further compounded by the ridiculous practice of review embargoes which has led to games like Aliens: Colonial Marines being bought when if anyone was allowed to review it using a review copy of the game, then we would have known what a portugalup it was beforehand. I didn't buy it because of my hate of preorders but I have seen the furore of the internet and despair.
-
Well, fingers crossed that the Brytenwalda team and Taleworlds won't do that. Even if they do we can expect many patches and bug fixes from the Brytenwalda team for weeks to come after release.
-
That's my point exactly Khan, you just have to hope. Granted Brytenwalda/Taleworlds have a great rep and will almost certainly release the game in a decent fashion and patch it after release, but I'd rather be certain than almost certain. Waiting until review copies are out and people are playing the game in a finished state is just sensible.
-
Maybe, but it'll be more expansive, and even if you buy it now, you'll be saving money. By no means do you have to play it straight away, you can buy it and wait for reviews. It's not even that expensive.
-
You're only saving money if you like the game :P
Buying it and then waiting on reviews seems kind of pointless really, why not just wait for reviews then buy it? Like in the Christmas sale or something :)
It's also not about the actual cost but about promoting bad business practices for the consumer I have a problem with. I hate that pre-orders have become the norm, and I especially hate it when companies add a dlc incentive to buy the game early. I hate it even more when there are different dlc incentives from different retailers (bioware/activision/EA seem to be the main culprits here) because then you can't even get the complete game.
-
Hmm, I see what you mean, and I agree. As it is a game that I enjoy I pre-ordered it so t didn't cost me more when it came out. I was going to get it one way or the other, I just though, for me, pre-ordering it was the best way. Especially considering it releases just next month.
But I do see where you're coming from and I do agree.
-
Honestly I just wanted to bring up the topic, have been meaning to for a while but didn't want to create a thread for it along with my other bullarmadillo ramblings :P
-
Hahahaha, rambling can be fun though. :P
-
While I am excited for the DLC, I am waiting for a steam sale before purchasing. On a related note, has anyone else tried the Napoleonic Wars Expansion. If you can't abide multiplayer I can't recommend it, however if you are willing to overlook this the gameplay is brilliant. It seriously lacks a single player mode though.

Viking Conquest: Attack of the Clones

From what I've heard it's apparently really buggy at the minute, frame rate issues galore.
-
Oh, I haven't been experiencing that. But I do like some of the new mechanics, particularly the seas battles and travel is really well done and improved. Another thing I like was that now they have ferries you can cross big rivers on. Another cool thing is that you have to ask permission from the lord that own the village you want to recruit from to be able to recruit from it, or you can got straight to the ruler of the faction and ask permission to recruit from that factions villages. There isn't all that much variety in weapons and armour, but I suppose that comes with trying to make it more realistic for the era it's set in.
-
The trouble with this sort of thing for kit is that the individual pieces should in theory be very much more individual since everything is handmade, but with a relatively small range of materials and basic styles. Ideally you want some way of inputting random variation to the same base items more...
-
+1 Jub. That idea is awesome, is it possible creating a table for each weapon and randomising the model? I know there are tables for each soldier but can there be tables within tables? Tableception! Probably, idk :/
-
I actually had this idea for a game where absolutely everything was purely randomly generated. Every model, texture, everything. But I don't know if that's possible or not.
-
They're called roguelikes :P
-
Hahaha, no, that's not what I mean. In roguelikes, all the art is predrawn, than randomly placed in the game. What I mean is that you'll never find any two things in the whole game that look alike.
Imagine Skyrim where you have 100 iron swords and each of them look different. That it what I mean.
-
"Write a random generator to produce n unique and sensible-looking swords" sounds like an interesting task.
-
Exactly. :P Not impossible, but if you were to write a game where the whole world were like that... now that would be a long and difficult task...
-
The textures would be the worst part I feel.
-
I know Khan :P
Way out of my knowledge base here but couldn't you have texIDs and then just do it the same way as the models?
-
Did anyone actually get this expansion? If so, is it worth the money? :P
-
Nope, my Warband stopped working a while ago, need to reinstall the damn thing.
-
I got it. I really liked it, it had a lot of frame rate issues for me but think its fixed now and working well. There is a storyline as well which is rather fun to play chasing down some evil viking dude, though i never finished it i ended up trapped in Norway and my ship was destroyed by vikings leaving me stuck across the ocean from where i needed to be. Ignoring the main story quest is awesome aswell though i spent ages trying to take over the British Isle with the east engles.
