Order knight model in various stages of development, just to prove that I'm making my own models from scratch, instead of using official material.

The models are being made in Wings 3D, an open source modeling program.

Order knights.
Not the warm and cuddly sort.

Finally finished.
Will be edited and scaled accordingly during development.

About 4500-tris together with the sword.

Is there a story behind the crystal like things, or are they just there to look cool?

The forces of Order (those crystal soldiers) are the invaders in the realm of madness.
They are led by Jyggalag, the Prince of Order.

The Diadem of Euphoria, worn by Thadon, the Duke of Mania.

"Liches are the result of mages who, by seeking immortality, subject their soul and body to black magics. Liches, although capable of slowly rotting away, lose none of their former minds, and can still think sharply and cast powerful spells as they did in life. "

Did you ever play the really really really early M&B version where undead were going to be a major part of vanilla and King Harlaus (later of Swadia) was some kind of lich?

No I didn't.
I must admit that I had no idea about this...  :D

But that explains why there are undead resources hidden in M&B.  :P
Those resources were really helpful, by the way.

"It would be erroneous to conclude that dwarven smiths did not take the manufacture of their weapons and armor very seriously. Every piece of war crafts I have examined show a remarkable amount of unnecessary detailing and personalization that is just as evident today among the most ardent blacksmiths."

I just had a read about the Dwemer on seeing that - I like the Assyrian/Dwarf crossover thematically (GW's Chaos Dwarves used to have some similar concepts in terms of look). :)
