Title: Trading zines, anyone?
Post by: Lizard on July 05, 2015, 08:07:20 PM
So I'm really getting into the idea of zines - small print-run, not-for-profit, self-published magazines, usually A5 size on a variety of topics.

I was wondering if anyone here writes them? Or would be interested in an exchange?

I don't think I've ever seen a zine in person. Did the internet not make them obsolete?
There's a certain novelty to the format though, I must say.

It'd be fun to have a zine stand at ExiliCon (2016?).

The 'Blogging Age' does make them a little obsolete, but there are people out there who still make them (as well as publish the PDF versions online).

We should definitely have a stand at the next Exilicon. This one is a bit short-notice :P

Well if you've got some we could still run one this year. I don't have anything suitable to contribute really (short of the stuff I've written for tUGS (http://gorkamorka.co.uk)). What's the zine scene like in the UK?

SF fans (i.e. fans of written SF) used to produce quite a lot of zines of varying sizes and qualities, and I think it's from that community that the name originates. I think some still do, but I suspect a lot of the output has gone electronic.

Time to get making, I suppose.
