Title: WHTW Bugfix Patch Released
Post by: Jubal on September 23, 2015, 09:25:06 PM
Here you go. Install instructions, just paste the data folder over your WHTW data folder to replace the relevant files.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/warhammer-total-war/downloads/whtw-bugfix-patch

Should fix:
- Lack of screeching for screeching units
- Chaos Horsemen bug
- (Hopefully) erratic Chaos general bug

Also:
- Some small improvements to a few building descriptions
- Knights of Myrmidia now recruitable as campaign mercs in Estalia

There is another problem. The Banshee's range attack is gone and now they're a melee unit but can still use screach.

Yeah, that would be because you can't have screech on a ranged unit, which was the problem to start with. :p

(OK so to give a bit more on that, the engine could hypothetically handle it but it's tied to animation files which I can't edit)

That's weird. Are you using show_err, and has it given you any error messages? Have you tried fully uninstalling/reinstalling the mod and patch?

Hi Jubal,

i havent used show error but through testing each unit ive discovered that the marauder horsemen are ifne, its the chaos general in the imperial campaign that is causing windows to display a ' ROME 1 has encountered a rpoblem and must close'.

Its only the general, any idea what i need to fix? having a look through previous threads now.
I tried the switching to lesser general but then WHTW wouldnt even start :s

Many thanks for your time!

Sounds like you made a typo when switching to the lesser general - post the relevant sections of the file for that and I can check :)

Hm, can't see anything wrong. Anyway, try reversing that and instead doing it by changing the linkages in descr_character.txt, that's what I've done before and had it work OK.

How do I change the linkages?

Sorry if youve said it somewhere before, quite tired today!

thanks

OK so descr_character is made up of entries like this:

Code: [Select]
faction romans_julii
dictionary 15
strat_model sm_kisgen
battle_model turban_general
battle_equip gladius, chainmail shirt helmet and rectangular shield

All you should need to do is change the battle_model for the gauls from celt_general to celt_lesser_general.

Hi there. I'm having a crash problem with the mod. It's crashing on the hordes of chaos turn. I'm at year 2801 and playing as the beastmen. Thanks for any help. Love the mod.

Have you tried reloading and rerunning the turn end a few times? Is there a specific battle etc that's causing it, and have you tried using the -show_err command line to see if it gives an error message.

Glad you're enjoying the mod, and welcome to Exilian :)

I've tried reloading the game about 4 times and it crashes every time it gets to the chaos turn. As for a battle, i'm not engaged with chaos on any fronts at the time of the crash, though there is a medium sized army 1 move from one of my cities. And we are at war. And i have no idea what the show error command line is or how to use it.

Are you using the steam or non-steam RTW version?

Non-steam. With a no-cd crack.

OK, so in your WHTW shortcut properties where it has the -WHTW command line, add -show_err after that, and if there's any error message produced when it crashes, let me know. :)

Ok, so I added the -show_err line to the target location command after -mod:WHTH and now it looks like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:WHTW -show_err

And after that the problem still persists and I am getting the same error message: Rome: Total War has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution"

Not sure if I did that properly but nothing else popped up when it crashed.

No, that's done right, means there isn't a specific bug and it's probably some inherent instability that's worked itself into the save file unfortunately :(

So I need to restart my campaign then?

I suspect so, I'm afraid - I can't think of anything else I can suggest.

Ok, well thanks for your help with this. 60 turns is a lot to redo so I think I'll try another race. Oh, and I think someone missed a 0 on the ungor spears' maintenance cost. Right now it only costs 5 gold per turn to support them. Don't get me wrong, I love having a 12 stack army for 60 gold per turn, but it feels a bit like cheating. Especially when a slightly inferior unit (ungor warriors) costs 50 gold.

Anyway, thanks again for the quick responses and assistance. Cheers.

Yes - I'm sorry, Rome as a game engine has some inherent instabilities, and a number of those seem to trigger more often in some mods.

If you want to tweak things like upkeep costs I'm happy to show you how; most things like that are fairly intuitively done in the export_descr_unit.txt file in your WHTW/data folder. :)

Hi Guys,
I've only just discovered this mod after not getting the official CA / GW Warhammer to workon my laptop and got to say well done,
I've been getting crashes before battles with Chaos and by the looks of it so has a lot of others.
I;m not sure if anyone is still getting this issue or whether it's already sorted, but it seems to be a problem with the skins of the Chaos General.
If you go into the desc_model_battle.txt file and replace the Chaos general with the lessor general the game will work

It's at the bottom of the file and reads;
type            celt_general
skeleton         fs_swordsman
skeleton_horse      fs_hc_swordsman
skeleton_elephant   fs_forest_elephant_rider
skeleton_chariot   fs_chariot_sword
skeleton_camel      fs_hc_swordsman
skeleton_scorpion_cart   fs_carriage_ballistae_crew
indiv_range         40
texture            gauls, WHTW/data/models_unit/textures/WHTW_CHAOS_GENERAL.TGA
texture            britons, data/models_unit/textures/officer_barb_general_briton.tga
;texture            spain, WHTW/data/models_unit/textures/WHTW_CHAOS_GENERAL.tga         ;SHOULD USE CARTHAGINIAN NOW?
model_flexi      WHTW/data/models_unit/WHTW_CHAOS_GENERAL_high.CAS, max
;model_flexi      data/models_unit/officer_barb_general_med.CAS, 15
;model_flexi         data/models_unit/officer_barb_general_low.CAS, 30
;model_flexi         data/models_unit/officer_barb_general_lowest.CAS, max
;model_sprite      60.0, data/sprites/celt_general_sprite.spr
model_tri         400, 0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5

Copy this and save it somewhere, incase the problem is fixed at some point.

Then delete from the second line. So below
type            celt_general

and replace it with the text from below the Celt lessor general.

Your Chaos general will look like a lessor general, who still looks bad ass, but the game will play.

Hope this helps anyone who is still playing and having problems.

And thanks JB for a great Mod.

Aye, that should indeed work. I'm not sure what's up with the greater general model, but I also don't have the necessary programs & abilities to find out (the one aspect of modding I've never done is 3d model design!).

Really glad you're enjoying the mod, Darrero; let me know if there's anything else you want to ask or that I can help with (and welcome to Exilian, too!) :)
