Hello all who appreciate the game Rome: Total War, it's mod Rome Total Realism and Ancient History!
I am ahowl11, a humble citizen of the United States, and one who's been trying to make his own mod for almost five years now. Ideas bounced around for most of that time, until I developed a keen interest in the old mod, Rome Total Realism Platinum Edition. From there I went about modding it and then Total War Rome 2 came out and I thought my dreams had come true. Instead they turned into a nightmare with how bad that game was >:(
So alas, I turned back to Rome Total Realism, and made a small RTR 0.5 campaign right here at these forums in Exilian. From there, it was a year of constant circles, as I could not decide what to do next. People came, and people left but I stuck to my dream of remaking RTR. Then in May of 2015, Anarchon and I got together and started this thing from scratch. We implemented a new map, decided the faction list and I added all features from BI and ALX, and was able to get the mod to work with the ALX engine. From there Anarchon became ill and left, and me and a few others implemented all BI and ALX units into the mod, as well as reskinning and renaming many vanilla units. We also implemented a new recruitment system. From there unit cards were made and our first public beta was released in April. Since then, Emodude, Xeofox, Aaronbarron, Quinn_Inuit and I have been hard at work trying to make this game more challenging and beautiful.
Now thanks to Jubal and the Exilian community, RTR is back at Exilian, and I am now proud to announce that this will become the new home for RTR, so fans, players, modders, historians and enthusiasts are all welcome to this forum to discuss things about the mod, books they have read, shows they've watched and finally just enjoy being in community with others who have the same interest!
Please introduce yourself, and check back often as this community and mod about ancient history continues to grow!

Ave. Vincentius here. Got started on RTW by my brother, and was hooked quickly. I mainly play factions with heavy infantry, which means Rome, Seleucia, or Macedon. I have covered the entire RTW map as the Julii, Brutii, Greece, Seleucia, and Macedon. Most of that was on E/E, I mainly play M/M now.
-
Hey Vincentius and welcome, post all your future testing experiences here and it will help us solve a lot of issues.
-
Hello, I am Lenin Cat (aka Kirila the Kitten from TWC) and I will give this mod a try as soon as possible.
-
Welcome back, Lenin Cat! :)
-
Hello! Philip here (nickname Sheridan here and on TWC). Total War modder since three years back, working on projects such as Ancient Empires and Rise of Mordor. Was invited by Ahowl11 to try out this mod.
-
Welcome Philip good to see you made it here!
-
Welcome to Exilian, Sheridan/Philip :)
(And all new people, do feel you can PM me or other staff and ask about any Exilian-related stuff!)
-
Howdy all. FATW beta tester and humble contributor. I played RTRPE with relish years ago. I am sorry to learn that Rome 2 was such a bust, but happy to learn that the one TW game I own is still the basis for so many excellent mods. I look forward to testing this mod, and contributing in what other ways I can.
-
Welcome Wambat, hopefully everyone that has joined recently can get into the system soon.
-
Letting you guys know I'm alive: beta tester and occasional adviser :P.
-
Hey guys, I'm still here too, been hella busy IRL though, but I got time now :), where's the link to the GIT instructions for windows 10 :)
-
I finally installed the thing! Will be popping up and giving more advice/ideas soon hopefully.
-
Hiya, I'm GUNIN! I was introduced to the mod a few days ago by Ahowl. I'm hoping to provide some meaningful contributions to the RTR project on the code side of things. I'm also a hobbyist writer, artist, and Let's Player.

Hey Guys :)
Not much to say really. Have been following the development of this mod from time to time, but havent really gotten around to contribute much. Did some historical research on the ancient germanic tribes, but thats about it.
But Im looking forward to hopefully be able to contribute in some way.
Unfortunately Im often busy modding Rome 2. As a Member of the Divide et Impera team and the coming release of version 1.2, we got a lot on our hands.
If I can be of any help at some point, I will :)
Will be checking out this forum from time to time
Glad to see that you are such a persistent man, ahowl

Thanks for dropping by FlashHeart07, we are happy to have you here! :D
And best of luck with the Divide et Empera release! :D
-
Sup guys.
I got a pm today to check in, quite unexpectedly, and it's good to see that RTR is still around. I think I am the third oldest member of the project, from a long time ago when RTW 1 had just come out, Tyr was looking for modding help for a more history and realism oriented game and I signed on right there. Took over the coding and scripting work from the first person to attempt working on it, who's name I've long since forgotton unfortunately, and we brought it from there to its "final" release with all bells and whistles in what must have been 2004 or 2005 before college finals and joining the military destroyed any semblance of free time I had and I disappeared from the internet for several years.
I remember talking to someone, ahowl maybe(?), around the time RTW2 released but the launch of it was, well, not great and I couldn't get the game to run properly on two different pcs before giving up on it for the time being and forgot.
I'm glad the name still carries on over ten years later and I'd be happy to help with anything if you are looking for input of any kind.
-
Hi Deimos! It's so great to have someone from the first generation of RTR! I myself only stepped in sometime 2010, and I am so glad whenever I see someone from the elder days come back! Welcome back :D
-
Oh damn, I've just realized that I totally forgot to introduce myself.
Well, I'm Vrosivs Avgvstvs Rakvs, but you may call me V, and I was a part of the RTRVII team in 2010-2011. Did mostly beta testing at the time, then I started to get into coding and culture trees/tech trees (can't quite remember) when I had to retire. Now I'm back, and although I can't contribute very much at the moment, I will be taking care of the PR stuff, and later down the line, hopefully, even more. :) So glad to see you everyone, let's revive RTR.
-
Hello everybody! Long time no see!
-
Hey, welcome back! :)
-
Greetings everyone ^^
I'm Arjos, from Italy, I studied foreign languages and literatures. Hopefully soon to be secretary of production for a swiss company. I'm a reenactor and practice historical archery. I love metal music and am a member of the EBII team.
Was contacted to help out with Kolkhis, I hope I can do my best :)
-
Welcome xeofox and Arjos! Great to have you here! :D
-
ABH here. I am the team lead of the Ancient Empires mod for Attila, and friendly with Ahowl. History buff, and that's mainly what I'll comment on around here. I've done a lot of my own research for our mod, and enjoy discussing that stuff. Our mod teams have built up something of a relationship exchanging ideas and research. Look forward to getting to know everyone else here.
-
Hi ABH! Great to see you here, thanks for joining the forum :)
-
Hello,
I might eventually one day find some time to do something here again but I doubt it.
-
Hi z3n! Hopefully you do, but you're welcome here nonetheless :)
-
Hey all. I'm Blastoise Groudon over at TWC and I'm here to help the best I can.
-
Welcome Arjos! Nice to see you here!

Oh, where would life be without almighty gigantus?
Well, at least I'm not the only EB II member here (I'm Ibrahim at the Org) :P

Hello,
I'm here at the behest of Ahowl, whom I have on my Steam friends list, and who has worked on this project with a diligence that I've found impressive.
It's possible I'm the oldest of the RTR oldies here (or close to it, anyhow). I became involved with RTR (I cannot remember which version---maybe 3?) in its very early days back in 2004, albeit then only in the role of community contributor. I became an official a member of the team in the summer of 2005 (under infamous project head Tyr, who would go on to defraud the community of donation money), working as a general contributor and beta tester for the massive project that was RTR 6; my claim to fame in that mod was the inception of the landblock that prevented the Carthaginians and Ptolemaics from moronically spending all of their resources fighting each other across a giant desert, though I added quite of bit of heres-and-theres as well. I thereupon moved on to the RTR:PE team in 2006, on which I did the unit balancing and contributed other general tweaks.
All that self-aggrandizement aside, I'm hoping to help where I may with this mod. RTW is still my favorite of the series, though it has always been mods that have made it fun. I couldn't possibly estimate how many hours I've put into playing said mods (entirely the big three, but RTR in the majority), but I can definitely estimate how much time I've spent playing vanilla: probably 20 hours or so, after which I discovered RTR. Not a fan of the Roman ninja or the Celtic head hurlers, or the wardogs, or much anything else in vanilla. I'm guessing nobody here is.
Anyhow, hi!
-
Hi Crymson, and welcome! Or, should I say, welcome back :D
RTR 6 was what got me into RTR, and ever since the day I installed it I never returned to vanilla! Thank you for helping create that miracle, let's create another :D
-
Good to have you on board, Deimos is also with us, so he might be older than you, who knows!
-
Hello,newbie to exilian

Hello, friends in RTR.
I am humbled to be in the company of so many fine folks over here. Thanks to ahowl's not giving up on me, and a nice invite from Mr. V over at TWC, I am here to test and hopefully contribute to the reemergence of this great mod. These are indeed exciting times!
What can I say about myself? I've been playing since the days of RTR 6 (maybe earlier?), though I never dared venture forth from the shadows. Ten years later, there is still so much potential in this old engine, and I'm glad that ongoing projects (RTR, of course; but also mods such as Dominion of Men and Rise of Persia) continue to unlock its secrets. I love ancient history -- and seeing it done right, which is why RTR has always been close to my heart. I also enjoy the occasional foray into AAR writing (you know, those things we had before "let's play" came along...?). I look forward to contributing whatever skills I have to the RTR cause. Glad to be here!
-
Welcome Cyprian2! Glad you joined us, mate! :D
-
Hi to all :)
Lets have some fun!
Welcome! Lets start it! :)
-
Hey to all I'm pumped for this mod :)
-
Welcome, ye king of Macedon :)

-
Welcome!

Welcome mate!
-
Hello guys! :) Long time no see. Some may know me some may not. I'm Andrei and have been with RTR modding team since 6.0. Been away for some time but i'm here now. I study history (phd now) and may be able to help in some areas. Other then history i did some small 2D work (avatars).
-
What area of history do you specialise in? :)
-
Hi, I'm The Khan, you may remember me from such subforums as The Storyteller's Hall, The Boozer, or even The Beer Cellar. In any case I have nothing to do with RTR, I don't even own a copy of RTW, legitimate or not, so you can just ignore me. ;D
-
anunnak, man, long time no see! So stoked to see you here, welcome :D
Khan, thanks for dropping by man, welcome, get comfy :D
-
Hi Anunnak!
Wow, you've got a lot of the old gang here. I don't go back quite as far as 6.0, but I did do a teeny bit of coding for RTR6PE.
-
Happy Christmas to everyone who celebrates it! :)
-
Ayyy, merry Christmas indeed to all who celebrate! ;D

Hello, my name is Tomas and I am a long time fan of the RTR series and of the history of ancient Rome which fits very well together of course :)
The RTR series give a realistic and hardcore feeling to the total war series, that is somehow going too much into the arcade fun direction. That is why I often like to get back to the RTR and play this instead of the RTW 2.
I like to read a lot and if I could pick my university again, I would have rather studied history or archeology.
I am a Slovakian who is currently living in Serbia very close to a place where Marcus Aurelius wrote most of his famous Meditations, the city Sirmium:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirmium. The biggest unexcavated hippodrome lies just under the city center, which must be a dream of every archeologist :)
Anyway, glad to be here and have fun playing this amazing mod!

Welcome to Exilian, Tomas! Do make yourself at home and feel free to look round more of the site, there's a main history and science (http://Welcome to Exilian, Tomas! Do make yourself at home and feel free to look round more of the site, there's a :)) section for example as well as the RTR forums themselves. And if you need anything from a staff perspective just get in touch :)
