So this is a poem I wrote about 4 years ago and just dug up, enjoy!

Uncontrollable. They Storm.
Gathering together again, they sigh.
Such a tedious affair to be had
But they hug each other goodbye.

Collecting under familiar terms
all filled with the same despair.
None ready for the expedition
Though they've had time to prepare.

Seldom will they live to see
the beauty that lies below,
To become attached is forbidden
for one day he will say no.

They pour to the border
All grief racked and stricken.
Some take the leap of faith
They crowd begins to thicken.

Rolling down to caress
the unknown takes shape,
their life etched, scars form.
No one will reach the nape.

Their paths are swiped away
Brushed with the back of a hand.
Their presence will be remembered,
for as long as he can stand.

Holding his broken faith
the boy still wonders why.
He vows to show no weakness.
So no one sees him cry.

Ooh, that's nice. I likes!  :)

If you've got much poetry, there's this board where different people have their own poem-writing threads for cluttering up with rubbish (in my case) or sharing their works with the adoring public (in the case of our master poet Andalus);

Is there a place where we could post our favorite quotes from various authors?

If not, can we make one?

OK, here's one.  Most of my dialogue doesn't work well out of context, but I think this holds up reasonably well:

"Kara?" Lissy whispered into the younger girl's open door.  A silhouette at the window turned to face her.
"Oh...Lissy?  You're still up?" Kara whispered back.
"Had some thinking to do."
"How did that go?"
"Not well.  Rafe came by to tell me something, and now I have even more to think about.  So I've accomplished negative net thinking for the evening."  She sighed.  "Story of my life."

Nice :) I always really struggle with dialogue writing - I'm very comfortable with descriptive writing, but especially trying to write pacey or serious dialogue I find like trying to squeeze blood from a stone sometimes.

Random bit from a short story I'm working on

She risked a glance back. Sweat ran freely from her brow into her eyes. She wiped them and heaved gulps of air into her lungs. The hot midday sun beat down upon an apparently empty lane, flanked by open golden fields and a couple of run-down, empty looking bungalows. At the bottom of the hill she could just about make out some figures. Those were the bullies. She was sure of it. They must have stopped running, and were now just waiting for her to come back.
