Alright I still have yet to actually attempt to run one of these, and after renewing up fond memories of the mafia game I totally owned (https://exilian.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3094.0) lol, it's about time I do.
So who's in?
Players
Tusky
Joob
Cara
-
Sure thing!
-
/in :)
-
Technically, I'd like to be in, but I'm not sure about my responsiveness atm... :/
-
We tend to play mafias pretty slowly over the course of several days per game-day, I shouldn't worry :)
-
Great, then I am gladly in... :)
-
Whoa I forgot about this. Anyone else up for play?
-
Well get ready for the shortest mafia game of all time. :P
Khan was murdered last night. The only active members during the time of his murder were Tusky, Joob, and Cara. CG, being unwillingly thrust into the position of arbiter in the case, has chosen the most unorthodox form of court in allowing the three suspects to act as their own legal counsel - and as the jury! The three will argue amongst themselves until two of them decide who is the guilty party, at which point Glaurung is standing by to execute the sentence without hesitation. If they choose wrong, the real murderer will use this opportunity to escape, likely murdering the lot of us on their way out.
-
This is tough! We haven't had much time to see what people say & the things that then happened.
I guess I'll pitch in first and say I'm not mafia (obviously we're all going to say that!). With basically a choice of 2 others each it's important that the other towny believes me - because if a single vote goes to a townsperson then that means the mafia will win! At least I think that's how it'll go down, right?
If so it's a little 50 / 50, and I personally have nothing to go on to suspect which of you is mafia. I will have to see what compelling arguments are made :)
p.s. Am I correct to be posting in this thread itself? Never played a mafia before
-
Yes this is the place. I know it's a little different since we don't have nearly enough players, so I figured it would be easiest to just start with a murder and go from there. Basically two of you need to decide against one in your group and accuse them of the crime.
-
Ok no prob. How long is the day phase?
I'm not sure if the others are lurking or are going to put forward their suspicions...
If it's the former then I will randomly pick one of the other 2 as my vote before the day ends
-
So we're playing mafia... with literally no information so this will be completely random? Huh.
*Puts on spiffy detective hat*
*Observes complete lack of evidence*
*Takes off spiffy detective hat sadly*
I guess we wait for someone to do the evil voice? :P
Rules question so I know how cautious to be about preliminary voting to pressure people etc - are we playing it hammer-vote style (day ends as soon as someone has two votes), or fixed-day style (day ends at a fixed time and people can shift their votes)?
-
Right, so, I'd like to point out that I was fast asleep that night, trying to catch up on the sleep lost due to 3 performances, a conference, a birthday party and the sun (which is the true villain here - or anywhere), so I couldn't possibly have committed a murder that night...
Furthermore, I don't know the victim and therefore wouldn't even have a motive...
Also, are we going to talk about the fact that Jubal conveniently had a clip on hand of people talking about a previously committed crime and doing what he refers to as "the evil voice"? Have you been using that to practice?
-

It's more so hammer-vote, so you'll want to be openly blaming and conspiring before you cast a vote. I'm still the judge so I can demand votes at any time.
Days and nights are essentially in real time since you're all locked away in separate cells during the night.

Hm, well based solely on those posts from Jubal and Caradìlis I would say that Jubal sounds more like someone that is in a position where he doesn't know who out of me and Caradìlis is mafia, weighing up the unique situation we are in. The post from Caradìlis had an air of defensiveness.
This could of course be Jubal being extremely cunning in how he came across...
-
I was told to defend myself, so that is what I did...
Then of course, you could just be looking for someone to blame...
-
I find it a tad ironic of being accused of practising theatrical voices by the person here who actually does acting (and mentioned as such in her defence statement) :P Though it does seem that Tusky has gone a little faster towards an accusation... Hm.
-
I make a point of not making sense... It's a hobby... :P
Hm, indeed... Although, from where I'm standing, both of you are suspicious... Ah, mafia - as if I weren't paranoid enough already... :P
-
Looks like our time is nearly up for making a decision?
I was quick to make an accusation before, yep. Sorry - maybe that was a mistake. Hope nobody is taking this personally! That being said I am very looking forward to saying: j'accuse at someone to vote
I guess there isn't really anything I can say to make the other towny believe that I am not mafia. It's everyones word against eachothers at this point!! :-X
-
Okay, that's it, I trust none of you!!! Neither of you are behaving very innocently... (help)
-
Would y'all rather do a secret ballot?
-
Isn't secret ballot worse for town? Because it means there's a risk of a voting b, b voting c, c voting a, in a triangle, so then nobody gets lynched and presumably the bad guy wins?
-
I'm with J on that... (which is presuming I don't get murdered in the near future, which is highly likely, because I have no clue who's on my side and am paranoid of trusting anyone else but me - but hey, what else is new?)
-
Well then, someone vote.
-
I feel guilty going first. Also I "fired first" last time which made me look guilty. However...
Caradìlis: J'accuse!
I think that you have been deploying your excellent thespian skills to mask your true identity as a member of none other than: THE MAFIA!
If it turns out you're not then I'm sorry... Jub is an evil genius by saying very innocent sounding things
-
You're right, it does make you look guilty!
a) my thespian skills would only be of use, if I were actually guilty - also, they're not that great...
b) but I see you had your choice set on blaming me for it all from the beginning, so I guess this is it, since I still don't know which one of you to trust, as neither of you has given me any reason... And I for one was raised to not convict or accuse on the basis of lacking evidence and presumptuous conclusion...
-
Hm, I wonder what happens if I...
Vote: Caradìlis
-
Okay, see, that's what I mean, both of you are behaving evilly... And what reason did I ever give you? I might be chaotic, but that doesn't make me any less good!
Also, what happens is: I now know with a certainty that you're the evil scheming person behind all this.
But guess what, too late, because as I knew from the beginning, because evidentally nobody here cares about me, you'll murder me and there is nothing I can say or do against it...
As they say, democracy is the worst form of government...
-
The votes are unanimous and Glaurung takes Caradìlis off to the gallows. However, just before he can pull the leaver and send her to a sudden stop from a short drop, Jubal, the real murderer, rushes the stand and grabs my gavel. He smacks me on the head and beams it towards Tusky, catching him in the face. Glaurung leaps off the platform to intervene but Jubal sees him coming and knocks over the courtroom chairs, sending Glaurung tumbling to his death. Jubal scowls at Caradìlis and makes his way to send her falling himself, when suddenly an arm grabs his leg and pulls him under the chairs. Glaurung, not quite dead yet, grabs the gavel laying on the floor and rams it down Jubal's throat, declaring, "You are terminated!". Caradìlis, still on the gallows, breathes a sigh of relief.
-
*shocked gasp*
Well now both egg, and gavel are all over my face. Bravo, well played Jubal.
Sorry Caradìlis!
-
Well, that was an unusually happy ending for a game of Mafia. :)
And yeah, I mean, 2 players 1 mafia is kind of easy mode for the mafia, I just had to sit around and attempt to sound vaguely reasonable. Good game though, folks.
-
Hang on, I'm still alive? Yay! Also J is dead and we're all safe juhuu!!! Also, I knew it! J's always guilty when he's silently lurking in the back! :P
-
Hmm, I'm now wondering what I was guilty of when I was lurking at the back of the theatre last Friday...!
Ah well, victory is mine, and I died in the endgame writeup so I don't have to feel bad about it :P
-
haha - actually it was unclear if the blow to my face was fatal or not :-X
I think it would be interesting if there are a few more participants at any point to give another attempt with a few day / night phases, but was fun with just the three
-

Hmm... let me think... What might that have been? Hmmmm....
-
And so we, the innocents - bruised, bloodied, and broken - hobble out of the courtroom to carry on our lives. But then the camera zooms in on Jubal's lifeless hand...
Sorry if this starts at the beginning, just skip to 2:35 if it does. :)
