Title: Pixel Dungeon Adventure - A Web Comic
Post by: pixeldungeonadventure on August 13, 2018, 04:43:50 PM: I'm new to the forum but thought I'd share a web comic I've been working on for a bit. It's called Pixel Dungeon Adventure and is a sort of D&D Dungeon Crawler hybrid. Anyways, hope you all enjoy.

Yeah, that scenario always feels all too common - though really hard to get around in game design too I find unless you make all the enemies undead or something. Order of the Stick does some good deconstruction of it. I really like the pixelly style though - it definitely sets it to fit clearly in-genre!

Nah. Just kind of an amalgamation of various games I've played. A little D&D, a little old school jrpg like dragon quest, and little dungeon crawl plus some other random stuff.

Keeps you safe from readers rules-lawyering you that way too! (I've likewise gone for not having a specific ruleset in the comic I've been starting out on writing recently which has a vaguely D&D like world).

Are all the tilesets for this your work? They're really nice - I particularly like the focus on the heroes' hats, it helps give them some clear identifiers despite the very minimalist style :)

I tend to do them in spurts, so like 4 or 5 in a day and then go a bit without creating a new one. It might sound corny but it's whenever I get "inspired" if you will.

It's really good! :)

My comic is titled Mountain Leopards (https://exilian.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5721), I've only just started on it really but do reply to that thread with any thoughts you have on it! The art style is basically a bad knock-off of Order of the Stick, but hopefully the humour is reasonable.

Haha. Despite the comics clear anti bard sentiments, I actually really like playing as a Bard. Though, when I first came up with Auto's character, him having a bard mount eventually was one of the first things that came to my mind.

This is the reason I don't read OOTS on the regular basis. I wait for 50+ episodes to accumulate and then read it all in one go so I don't forget stuff. :gandalfgrey:

In response to the discussion above, you've made some good points. I sometimes forget not everyone has spent months pondering these characters and rereading old strips to make sure things are at least somewhat continuous. :) I tweaked it slightly and posted it below.

He's unconscious, which should hopefully be clear from the next strip, but if it's not I may need to redo that sprite or find some other way of keying the reader in.

I have been reading it, but this once-a-week pace is too slow. I think I'll leave it for a month or so and then read 4-5 parts in one go. I know other comics aren't much faster, but OOTS has got some substantial content every time a new page is released. It feels like the "bites" are just too small on the Pixel Dungeon Adv.

Post by: Jubal on April 01, 2019, 09:43:03 PM: I've been starting to learn Savage Worlds as a ruleset lately with a view to GMing it. Wizard skills in that are multipart (power + trapping effect) so the number of possible combinations there is a teensy bit terrifying.

I love playing a wizard in most table top games but yeah, those magic systems take a good minute to figure out.

Post by: Jubal on April 01, 2019, 11:35:11 PM: From what I see so far I'm liking it, it's quite focused on combat, but generally pretty lightweight and really aesthetically nice if you like polyhedral dice (a key system element is that you upgrade the die type rather than a stat number when you upgrade skills, so the worst is a d4 and the best is a d12 - gives quite a cool feeling as you get a physically different die the better you are).

Oh cool, I kind of like that idea. Might have to suggest it to the group I table top with.
