Dimos, you may have noticed that on the main site, we have a gallery for images from various mods. (http://exilian.co.uk/gallery/ (http://exilian.co.uk/gallery/)) Would you like me to make a gallery for you, and give you an account, so you can add your mod screenshots to that, and simply direct people there?

I just realised...

You have the mod at EXACTLY the right period for Hereward the Wake! Seriously, adding Ely and the fens as a mini-faction of Saxon rebels under Hereward would be seriously cool.

Hello guys. Another day, comes near it's end...

At least I took advantage of my time to work on my mod.

I have finished the Turkish, Venetian, Scicilian and moor troop tree the last two days... Meaning I still have to do Hungary, the mercenaries, the Knights Templar (minor neutral faction) and maybe tweek some troop trees...

I will now indroduce some screens from the mod. I will have more sceenies -for each faction- posted here anytime tomorrow.
I also have to work on NPC'S and Lord names. Some of them are already done, though...

more to come...

EDIT: Scenes... I have finished Odense village scene. Many new ones, from Jubal's SR as well.

So... Here it is if you would!

http://www.filefactory.com/file/ah924g5/n/Dimos_Europe_1080_mod_0_1_BETA_rar (http://www.filefactory.com/file/ah924g5/n/Dimos_Europe_1080_mod_0_1_BETA_rar) [download links will contain all future updates and fixes]

This is a Basic release of the mod [BETA 0.1 version]. It has some minor [and easily fixable] bugs, but it is still 100% playble and gives you a good amount of fun and a nice time. I want to thank Jubal for his scripts and for hosting the mod in exilian, Andeg for his map base [which I personally refined, adding mountains, forests and smoothing shorelines and rivers], MISHO, for his exellent work and Pants! as well. My mod's first BETA, includes many of my textures [hope you like them], my work with the troop trees, lords and mapping [city placing, tweaking]. All those stuff can give you some evidence about the further development of this mod. I hope you'll have a nice time playing my mod and you'll enjoy the whole lotta thing.

Feel free to comment, request and corect me. Even if still not 100% finished, I want to believe that this mod will be warmly received by m&b players.

With total respect to all of you, Dimos

Make the Normans and Saxons in Britain different factions if you can
Title: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Dimos on October 20, 2009, 06:37:24 PM
In the next release there will be more or less the same factions [version 0.2] . Version 0.3 might contain more than 21 factions and maybe Saxons will be added... Thought they where no real faction, but just rebels and, by late 1080-early 1081 , most of their leaders where inprisoned by King Willian I .

As you might undertood the first thing we are trying to make in this mod is general historical accuracy. For example I will be able to get a 1-castle faction as Saxons, but first of all, there are other factions that have to be made... For Example Pisa at the period was stronger, but for now it will remain part of Holy Roman Empire and France, Croatia was a Kingdom in decline (the King was married to Ilona, sister of King Lazlo of Hungary, and died childless around 1090's ) and so Croatia will be incorporated in Hungary for now, Bulgarian nobles, made a rebellion at the City of Skopje against the Byzantine Empire, but by 1081, the rebellion was crushed, Serbia (Which will be included as a single state, and the heir of it was also declared King of Bulgaria) was divided among tiny and powerless principalities, the Principality of Volga-Bulgar and the Principality of Hallych-Vollynia (less likely) might be incorporated to the Principality of Kiev, since they present no new-style troops or anything....

So in the next versions (most probably after 0.3) , the new factions to be included will be:

Kingdom of Scotland
Kingdom of Hungary
Papal States
Republic of Novgorod
Kingdom of Pamplona (Navarre)
Cumans
Kingdom of Denmark
Turks
Kingdom of England
Serbian (and Bulgarian) Principalities
Kingdom of Poland (Grand Duchy, at the time)
Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Tribes, at the time)
Kingdom of Castille and Leon (also Gallicia and Portugal, united under 1 ruler)
Moors
Byzantine Empire
Holy Roman Empire
Republic of Venice
High Kingdom of Ireland
Kingdom of Sicily
Kingdom of France
Principality of Kiev
Egypt

Cheers. PS: A question for all of you guys... Do you prefer kingdom names such as ''Ireland'' or ''High Kingdom of Ireland'' , ''Serbia'' or ''Serbian Principalities''

Post any opinion below... New release... maybe this week!

EDIT: PS.2: Also wales was divided between 4-5 major and so on minor factions, easily manipulated, so England will hold 'em... Apulia was semi autonomus, but now it will remain in Sicilian Crown state, Pomerania was Free (and maybe thriving) Duchy, but it will remain in Poland as well... Bohemia was an indepentent Kingdom, of mediocre strenght and influence, but is effectively part of Poland and Holy Roman Empire... And of course Muslim Taifas where under a state of Semi-autonomy, even by the time Yusuf ibn Ammar was the ruler of the Almohads... and so on!

Personally I think High Kingdom of Ireland or Serbian Principalities is better.

Just started playing the game, and it has been smooth sailing for now. Any problems and I'll let you know.

Historic note: Lisbon was taken by the Moors in 719 (and called by them al-Lixb

Post by: Dimos on October 27, 2009, 05:43:36 PM
Good to hear from you! You are really helping me with your notes. I know about the issue you refer to, and hopefully in the new release it will be a TOWN (not castle) and it will belong to the Moors...

Unfortunately the new scripts and the faction towns jubal send me yesterday, seam not to work with the editor... Either due to the fact they are done in module system -therefore no compatible with the map editor[?]- or because the editor cannot handle so many cities -due to technical reasons [?] - ...

So, today I started hand scripting in txt files, and by now I have placed some major cites around as well as 90% of Dannish settlements... If I work on sush a rate thought, It might take more than 1 month to do only the map! (something I could have done in 1 hour -the most- with the editor) and also then I will have to fix the troops, test around the kingdom management stuff , implement some scenes I made ... I hope I will find a way to solve the map issue, somehow...

Nice to be missed. :-)

I'd like to help in whatever i can though I don't have much experience in moduling M&B. But anything you think I can help, please let me know. I've also found some inaccuracies in city placements. I'll try to mark them in the map and send them to you. Nice touch in Salamantica, i didn't knew it was the original name so I already learn something :)

About names and kingdoms I think you should always go for the correct one at the time and on the language of who held it at the time (like al-Lixb

Yesterday night, work started for the new release.

So here is a,
Quik question to everyone:
The Byzantine Empire will have 4 cities...

The 3 will be Constaninople (Capital) , Thessalonica (Co-capital) and Nicaea (the Biggest Asia-Minor Byzantine City)

which sould be the 4th?
1) Trebizond (Later the capital of the Trebizond Empire)
2) Adrianople (Founded by Roman Emperor Adrian, later 3rd Capital of the Ottoman Sultanate, nowadays in Bulagria)
3) Velico Tetovo (Capital of the First Bulgarian Empire, just fallen thos' years)
4) Athens (Described as a village, thos' ages... late capital of the Latin Duchy of Athens, proposed only for gap filling purposes)
5) Philadelpaea (Big Asia minor City, the only to remain under Byzantine rule till early 1450)
6) Your own opinion (also mention why!)

I need as many opinions as possible!
Now I am starting by placing the towns in Ireland and Great Britain!

i like athens :) they are one of the hoplite warrior states, ofcourse sparta  is better, but even so athens makes a good number 2 ;)

Velico Tetovo... Mostly because of it's significance in war between Bulgaria and Byzantine Empire ... Also it was a Bulgarian capital and Bulgarians were quite a force back then
Title: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion

Adrianople i reckon, or Trebizond due to its proximity to the capital; Philla is too close IMO.

Post by: Dimos on November 08, 2009, 06:47:25 PM
Good to see the discussion was sparked up a bit... And all of you have different and well ''defended'' opinions...

1> (PS: The Sparta one is not so apropiate, since by the era of the Early Roman Empire, Sparta was in decline, reaching almost destruction... the citizens of Sparta though, had build several castles/fortified small cities in the Peloponese region)

2> (PS: Veliko Tetovo and Adrianople are my 2 best, followed by Athens in short distance... Velico Tetovo was the last capital of the First Bulgarian Empire which was effectively destroyed in 1080 - early 1081 after the Rebellion of the Bulgarians in Skopje. Skopje was the capital of the Byzantine theme of Bulgaria, but will surely be included to the Serbian Princedom (the Priclipality of Dioclea), since at exactly that era it reaced its zenith, incorporating many Slavic regions, including Skopje)

2.1 > (Velico Tetovo seams to have lost its significance after 1081, but Adrianople is a bit close to the other towns... Adrianople was signiicant for many more years tho...)

3> (PS: Athens would balance the situation a bit in Greece, along with Thessalonica, but wasn't so big city at those ages)

4> (PS: Trebizond will revive a bit of Romantism in the Pontus Region, since it sounds good for the player to Conquer it and run his empire from there)

5> (PS: Kingdom management is in now... I will test it around those days... also I hope that by tomorrow all the English, Scottish and Irish cities, castles and villages will be placed!)

Title: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: blackfang on November 08, 2009, 07:07:14 PM
well i kinda LOVE hoplites :) their spears/pikes (depends on what nation's hoplites you refer to) usually slaughter the enemy before they can try their swords against the shields ;) but its your call :)

(ps that about the spartans being better i only refer to the warriors, not the nation :) )

So, I have placed the English cities/castles/villages as well. Exept 2-3 villages and 1 castle...

Should I place it as Baernmouth Castle to south england or to Rennes castle in North France? At that age I thing Bretagne was a bit semi-autonomous region of france...

Also 1 village will be de facto be given to france so as it will have many villages around. Next 2 factions I hope to place thos' days are Kingdom of Denmark and Turks

I need opinions before I can move up though. Please post soon!!!  :knight:   :P

Yeah, since it will make England too crowded if we had it on the south!

Thanks for the replies. In some moments England will be done!

You are both awesome!

EDIT: Now all English Towns are placed and 99% of  Turkish ones as well. (2 turkish villages left)

I may not include Aremenia minor (because I want to avoid some places having so many towns gathered...) and instead I might include Georgia (if it had a kingdom at that age) or the Baltic Tribes (Lithuanians, Livonians, Prussians...) Though they had tribal organization...

EDIT 2: Any other suggestions are welcome!

So I have almost finished the placement of the locations on the map! There are till to be placed 4 castles and their bound villages, the training fields, the monasteries and the bandit spawing points!

After the map placement/issues are done, my next goal will be  to make a unigue and accurate troop tree for each faction!

PS: Finaly I used the fourth HRE town as Vienna!

The model my mod uses can be found in Jubal's mod. I think you are refering to this Galleon's / Caravel's model, which is made by MISHO . The Viking Longboat model, which is also used in SR, is made by a guy whose name I can't remember now.

The church lacks its original colour, but I still like it...

Hey, newcomer! Welcome to Europe 1080 mod...  :knight:

I am working on the 0.2 version of the mod, which will definately be much better! More f[r]actions, more troops, more bandits and patrols, more towns villages and castles!  :ball:

~ If you like a bit the 0.1 version, I inform you that you will love to play the 0.2 version! ~

I will upload some new pictures of troops soon enough... All is left to do is:
-Make some troops trees for: Poland, Kievan Russ, Cuman Khanate, Venice -also fix the Irish troops and maybe Papal states' one-  ;)
-Rename and re-equip all the Lords  :knight:
-Place 10 locations -maybe 9, maybe 15- that are a bit wrongly placed...
-Polish the dialogues -especially those that are related with religion-  :ball:
-Make sure factions are balanced enough!  :knight:
-Fix some scenes!  :ninja:

EDIT:
Any help is apreciated, even if I prefer to have a small team working on the mod, for practical reasons...

Happy to hear that you're alive :D ....
Might a suggest though to get a less comercial spammned file uploader, prefer to use the one in taleworlds.
For a time being the most likely job I could do for now is the textures, I'm just way too new for the 3D works =.=' .

Remember though, Russia kinda behind in most weaponry tech, but quiet well in numbers... which I don't know how that could be possibly be worked out with autofights since that is still buggy (Heard of peasants beating a group of Deserted Lancers yet?).
I haven't really checked-out the game yet, but if you haven't worked on the sea part of the mod yet. I remember seeing a vid from the Camelot Mod who made quiet a good transition from land travel to sea travel. Last time I checked I remember he was quiet busy in trying to get the bugs fixed in the sea battles, so for now it is set in autobattle. But might be worth looking into.

I don't think all the Kings and Lords should have crowns, that might seem a bit excessive. Too bad we can't delve into the past and see what it was actually like. :P But yeah, perhaps the "bigger" Kings should just wear crowns? Or, even though it might be a lot of work, make separate crowns for some of the Kings and Lords, like have larger and more stylish headpieces for the really up there rulers and smaller, more "crude" crowns for rulers of the smaller countries. Just throwing it out there, though.

Actually all leaders should have crowns ... It was like a national symbol at that time
Title: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Dimos on February 15, 2010, 10:43:14 AM
Yeah... I was thinking... there where some Warrior-Kings though, like the King of Lithuania [if you have not noticed, Lithuania was a Kingdom at the time and had tribal organization] Also faction leaders like for example The Pope wore no crowns but Papal Mitre...

Also, I think having diferent Crowns for different Kings is good, if we had more crowns... Right now those 2 are the crowns we have availiable...

Some kingdoms like Hungary for example had no Crown availiable and the requested one by the Pope and the Byzantine Emperor...

Cheers, Dimos...

PS:
I wish to hear more opinions and anything that you wish to share with me and the forum...

-The Templar ''Chapter House'' is located North-West of Jerusalem in Palestine... To enter it you need to be baptished as a catholic -there is also a secret entrance, if you wanna sneak in...-

-The Assasins' guild is located in the TAVERN of a major city of Europe... Just behind a door that you can find in that tavern... It has 2 rooms where you can do the assasin quest and after you are accepted in the guild you can buy some assasin equipment... -Note that their daggers are doing 30 damage or so-

I cannot reveal the city for obvious reasons ... If you can't find it you can ask me in windows live messenger, ok? I recomend that you search for it alone, though...

Wicked mod! The texturing on the troops is great, and i can see that there have been huge amounts of work put into this! I would criticize the "Arena Fights", i.e when there isn't a tournament and u just feel like a fight, its kind of strange to have it in a dungeon, as the whole point is that rich sponsors give money to strong fighters in the arena and maybe hire them etc. So fighting in the dungeon is aimless as there are no spectators? Also, when u start the fight u r all bunched in the middle and undoubtedly will get hit by a weapon.

Also, archers are at a huge disadvantage in the dungeon arena, as there is no range, so they cannot shoot people before they get to them, and without a melee weapon they get owned.

Another thing, there is no city called Veliko Tatovo, it is Veliko Tarnovo, as i am a Bulgarian, i am pretty sure this is the case, also, Adrianople is now Edirne and it ain't part of Bulgaria, its Turkish. Otherwise this is a great mod, keep up the good work!
Title: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Dimos on February 20, 2010, 03:38:33 PM
Marcus: Thank you!

bengos101: As I have said to you the assasin's guild is in the basement of a TAVERN in one of the cities... How you tried to find it? Which cities have you searched? If you can't find it tell me so as I can pm you the secret... Also, have you sneaked in the Templar Chapter house?

Pavski: Good day to you and welcome to exilian first of all. It is really positive to see new people joining around here... Those ''arena'' fights are leftovers from SR mod, which is the scripting base for my mod. You are probably speaking for Toulouse and Marseille and also Leon has that stuff... I think I can solve that easily, so don't worry it will be fixed...

I know about Tarnovo! I simply forgot to rename it before I uploaded the mod! Sorry for that, absolutely right in pointing this out! It's not only Adrianople that has that issue... Braga is also a Portugese city today, though it is a village of Leon. I mean, things where a bit different 900 -or more- years earlier. The region of todays ''Edirme'' is called Thrace. Thrace is nowadays divided between Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria... I mean don't mind that, it's ok for me!

Good points mate, thank you a lot!

To all:
I was thinking in making a mercenary troop tree with Portugese units. Portugal was not a state at that age -just a county and the count of it was King Alfonso of Castille, Leon, Galicia, Count of Portugal and Emperor of All Christian Spain- ...

Simply put I wish, if some players are from Portugal can have access to their home's troops if they make a Player faction.
The same might be done with Bulgaria. In both cases I have in mind a simple troop tree with a basic recruit and mediocre cavalry and infantry advance lines. Although the players can use ''Helraldric'' mercenary troops, I have already in game adding those troop factions will flavour the game a bit, I think

So here is a rag I made which is to be worn by the Portugese sailors, the recruits I will put for portugal...

And here is an atempt to create a Bulgarian Lamelar Coat:

Also about new factions [largely depends on Jubals scripts and time] I think the only factions that existed at that age and are not featured in the mod where: Duchy of Pomerania, Kingdom of Cilician Armenia, Welsh Princedoms... [?]

EDIT: Reply no 100 on this topic!

Also... I wish everyone of you that play the mod to tell me your opinion about the new armours / factions or whatever else!

Just looked over your mod and decided to download/try it out.

Was wondering if it would be possible to mod it so factions that were good mariners could get a bonus in seabattles? (like the portugese)

And was wondering if some of the groups that are included in the other factions could have unique troops as well...like some hopolites in Greece, Ect. (not necessary, just make me personally happier...but a ton more work...)

Thunderaa: Yeah mate, buw what excactly do you suggest for the Portugese sailors? and do you mean the hoplites in patrols -hoplites are more ancient though- ? Overall was the mod satisfying? Do you think the amount of work put on the Scripts by Jubal and in the Textures etc by me was satisfying?

Pavski: So here my dear mate I proudly present you with a new Bulgarian lamellar armour for Bulgaria! The ''dark hunters'' in the south balkans will be most probably be turned in ''bulgarian'' or ''Slavic'' Brigands/ Raiders/ Bandits ... AND that party will have Bulgarian troops inside so they will use the following armour:

Colonel_Ryan: Thanks a lot with the support mate! I have a ton of lessons that period, unfortunately! The final exams are in about 1-2 mounths so I am in the finishing line, and I have to pass it successfully!

Development note:

Since this is my last year at school, I am having some exams in about 1 - 1 & 1/2 - 2 months from now. I will keep working on the mod, but the exams are sure something that will reduce my work rate, surely.

Possible fixes for the next release:
New textures
Tweaks on bandits
Tweaks / adds on Mercenaries
More stuff for Lithuanian and Papal troops
More historical accuracy
More new scenes & secret locations!
Conversation /Party names tweaks
More fun stuff!

^Note that in those tweaks I do not include the ''move faster'' tweak, since it is unrealistic feature. Before version 0.2 was out, I had tested the mod to see how long it takes to get from a map's edge to another. It takes 5 days, currently [Going from the cape of Lisbon to the eastern European Russia] . One Roman scholar noted that Imperial Roman roads were so safe that you could go throught the Empire in 10 days, which means historical accuracy demands a reduce. I think reducing the speed more will be a and stupid /annoying bad thing, so I will leave it as I have it set right now. It is set to resemble realism!

My scripting tweaks:
>Speak to Guild masters / Village elders from the town menus
>Change fief's ''culture'' after you conquer it [recruits from new faction-owner]
>Activate a new tutorial

^- Do YOU want me to do the above noted scripts? Opinions please!!!

Keep on posting all of you, fans of Europe 1080 mod! We need your support...

Jubal: Hehe, glad you liked them! By the way, I found the way to add them as seperate objects in the item_kinds1.txt with my hand script. Yeah, I'll trust my own judgement on the other scripts as well. Those are quite simple scripts for me. I just want you to tell me if you like the tweaks and the stuff that are about to be scripted.

SRN: Really glad you like them mate! I hope you'll get the time to play the mod a bit once you'll have some time.

To the community: People, I need your opinions about the textures and the scripts! Also I would like someone to tell me which faction(s) need(s) more textures for their troops. I also hope silverwolf will be able to make a ''Papal Tiara'' for me since it will flavour the game a bit if we could have a Papal Tiara, a Patriarch Hat and even a muslim Imam's hat.

Cheers!

Exept from your opinion for my new textures, I wish you to tell me your opinions about the tweaks I posted previously and which I plan to do with my basic scripting knowledge. So I put those in the spoiler bellow:

A new bohemian tunic. Which one is better dark, or light blue, please I need your opinions!
Dark Blue Bohemian Tunic

Light Blue Bohemian Tunic

to be used for the bohemian mercenaries along with the red one with the white standing lion I made...

Also some stuff I should not forrget:
-Add the Spawing point for the banker in all scenes, therefore solving the ''banker do not appear in fights'' bug -Testing shows that the problem is succesfully solved!
-Add Mercenary Turkopoles, in-game
-Add Bohemian Footmen mercenaries
-Change dialogues [New religious vows, presantation of NPC's and more...]
-Add my new retextures in-game
-Find out what will the ''knights of Santiago'' will turn to
-Expanded troop trees
-Maybe add the Almoghavars
-Make all town patrols look alike [with the retexture of a gambeson and by the aid of the native ones] [also create 5 basic town patrol units: City_Watchman, City_Watch_Skirmisher, City_Watch_Crossbowman, City_watch_Horseman, City_Watch_Horse_Archer ] TESTING
-Turn the ''Dark hunters'' into ''Bulgarian Brigands''
-Bandit tweaks
-Put the spawing points of the ships in the right places on the map... - Testing shows that we have a problem with the travelling merchant ships, which as expected cannot reach their geographically opposite ships [North-South]
-Ability to speak to the village elder from the menus
-Rename ''Byzantine Empire'' to ''Roman Empire''
-Make captured villages produce recruits of the new owner - postponed?
-Work on all Lords equipment
-Add my new scenes for villages, castles and towns
-Add the new, hidden tutorial...
-and more

All those are goin' to be used in the 0,25 version of the mod
-Green are done or mostly done
-Orange are being worked right now
-White are not started

Yeah, guys your choise was clear!

Also, what do you think of my other tweaks? Are those good ones? Boyninja616 wanted the troops of each faction in ''native'' languages... I might release an extra txt file with native names of the troops... Although the Official Version will have the English names of them.

So it might be useful to have some fellows help with the names of the troops in native languages... For example Silverwolf can propose something for Croat dudes...

Thank you guys for everything so far!

Which city have you captured, and how was your kingdom named?

I am really happy you managed to instal properly and play the mod. I really want to hear your opinions on it in all stuff around; Textures, gameplay mechanics, scripts, factions, troops, the ''secret'' jobs of the assasin and the templar capter house, religion, lord issues ect...

Thanks a lot for your interest in the mod. I hope you'll keep posting on our topics. Keep on Walking!

You should not replace the armors... Just add new ones to create some diversity between the units...
Title: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Dimos on May 20, 2010, 08:23:40 AM
they look the same ...wolfy ! I mean they are just ''copies'' of the other ones in better looking moddels, so that's why I replace them with those... Note that the Portugese armour which is already in-game will not be replaced, at least for now, neither will it be retectured. This is a replacement for an armour posted 2 pages before...

Hello back!  :D  Wolfy, don't be that nervous!  B)

I said to you that they are exact copies of the old ones! No need to have 2 similar armours in-game, that limits the ability to add more new stuff, and I hope you understand why, don't you? Better to have many different than few same, a wise man said once -even if I don't know who he was of if he was  :P  -

I don't agree with you ... I think that armies look like a bunch of clones right now and that looks bad. There should be at least some diversity... But it's your mod and it up to you to decide.

-Catalon- Almoghavars are added. They will be availiable via the Spannish factions [Navarre / Castille-Leon ] troop trees.

Also most of the patrols are tested and they are ok. I will need to fix the ''merchant moovement on the map bug'' maybe with the move of the york ships down is the mediteranean...

I will also have to work on the crews...

And some other basic stuff. I hope that in a few days / weeks the mod will be ready for a new release! Ah! NOT TO FORGET TO do a new troop tree fro the lithuanians, which will be used after Duke Daumantas III will gain power and if he manages to christianize all of the pagan country.

Very nice job done guys!
Epharisto poli, Dimos! Since I love particularly the medieval setting of this mod; which I tend to favourise over other, well done as well, mods for M&B.

Moreover from curiosity; I started lately to check on game codes and ingamescripts and stumbled across some nice small ingametweaks (some of them you guys have already implented in Europe 1080) which sounded fairly compatible with your game setting. Promptly I implemented them in the game code; thus increasing the ingame experience slightly.

I know your guys are busy as hell, and the summer lures everyone outside; but if you are interested on implementing those small tweaks into your mod; just go ahead! You can grab them at the downlink link at the end of the post easily.

List of changed files:
- conversation
- item_kinds1
- menus
- module
- party_templates
- quick_strings
- scripts
- simple_triggers
- sounds
- triggers
- troops

Basically, I added some new minor options to the game (v 1.011). Like talking to the Village and City Elder right away from the menu, decide to engage in battle with either defenders or attackers; regardless of the attitude towards the faction, Talak's Weapon Mod; which I think it suites to this medieval setting, the possibility to give soldiers to own patrols or peasants, garrison "backup" troops in villages and heroes in castles and mainly anything that was proposed in the Taleworlds Forum on minor tweaks to the game, especially from MageLord and two other guys. Run your version with the new text files and check the new opportunities. Great deal of fun!

The files are compiled but not entirely tested by me, as to ensure the basic code guarantee to Europe 1080. No credits for me are necessary, since i only implemented the work from MageLord mainly.

Some footnotes for the next release of Europe 1080:
- Pathway point clearing for stacking of parties (good work done in Wedding Dance, no stacking there)
Possible solution in emergency case: Script the lords for "beaming home" after a initial period where they haven't moved an inch on a map. It's devastating for smaller "nations" like Navarre, where the whole "expeditonial army" is stucked somewhere to a nonsense grade.
Could this problem be somehow solved, the game would became greatly more fun in general! Everything else could be considered secondary!
- Some "nice to have" features:
1) More quests please for the very nice heroes. Like meeting Vasileios, travel to Constaninopole, meet Emperor Alexios, request Vasileios for duty for example. Not that much work after all. Some background information obtained on the heroes would greatly enhance the already dense atmosphere indeed! In case, you don't want to go solo on this mod, i could attend to the python and scripting and figure out some nice files for you. The game code seems not that complicated as in some other games. You don't need a hand; it's fair for me too! No interest on creating some mod on myself. Too much involved on other business as well.
2) Some minor fixes on Castille & Leon troop tree. They use mainly egyptian tree. I am not sure, but dare to remember that in the 0.1 version of Europe the Castillans used "home" troops. I don't care about the Knights of Santiago not fitting in this setting. Seem to me perfectly reasonable as they are some kind of unique unit.
3) Where are the famous Templars in Southern France, Mallorca and Eastern Spain ? Couldn't imagine a dense medieval setting without those crazy guys. They are a wonderful opportunity for future quest updates!
3) Minor text changes. The Town Crier in Rome is still ashaming the europeans with weird names of a kingdom that no one knows. Could look in these files as well to comply those for your medieval setting, if you like to.

One last note: go ahead! Great mod :sparta:

kamuisif: Hmm well maybe it will be cool feature... provided James has the will and ability to do it. Can you give us some hints on how it ''MUST'' look and what changes will it bring to the game?

Pavski: I promise you'll see them in action first hand soon. Those dudes are really badasses, let me tell you. They don't have the best armour but provided you have around a dozen of them or more in your army, they are pretty powerful ! Also the Bulgarian Horsemen can be a good light cavalry solution, able to hold the enemy for a while before a feasome horde of Bulgarian Axemen finishes them off !

Arminius: I've pm'ed you about your improovements pack. Still waiting for your answer! I am interested in some stuff and I don't like few of them... Keep on posting and working!

To all: Summer halted my work a bit but many new features are worked on right now. After version 0.25 the mod will gladly move to its completion. Even in 0,25 it will have many stuff that you maybe dislike. At least I've fixed many bugs, worked on a ton of new troops and bandits, done many new textures added some crowns and worked on many many new scenes and enterable locations!

Yeah, that's true.... Most people play Warband nowadays... It's a quite popular game, mostly because of the multiplayer. And that kind of popularity is bad in my option ... The game attracts a healthy number of idiots and immature children.

I don't have Warband myself but you should get it if you want to finish your mod... Version 1.011 is not very popular lately ...

Well I tend not to follow the trend, not to be lead by the will of others. I don't wanna buy a game whose company decided unfairly that I was an unwanted member of the comunity.

I am in exile, here at exilian, but this exile is now my web ''home''. So, with fans or withought them, we modders do games for our own pleasure, first. I will stick to 1.011 and hope my, yours and Jub's work atracts some people here.

Just tha hats. Still waitng for Jubal to send me the basic files so as I will strat placing the faction towns and re-work on all factions troops lords etc...

Hope version 0.3 will bring a fair amount of newcomers, but it won't be for warband... so we might be close to the end of updates, if most people won't play it. Though if Jubal has the will to work on the scripts continuously, I will be glad to provide all our forum's members who have 1.011 still with the mod's updates and news... I just did some new scenes so far and I am also testing some others, wheter or not to put them in-game

Title: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Ker Raven on February 05, 2011, 06:04:12 PM
Hello Dimos

A little bit of verbal meandering....
The more I play this mod the higher my opinion, it just takes me so long to get anywhere because I now stop at every town and village to explore the scenery and go poking about in other peoples castles.
Firstly played a 'test game' to see if I liked the mod and have now moved on to a 'serious' campaign which I have diaried as is my quirky way, and will take some up to date screen shots and put into the Titles and Estates section.  I do agree that gamers should use the forum to encourage others to use and enjoy the mod.

Original v. Warband.   Personally I prefer 1.011....but then I am and always have been a solo wargamer even @0 years ago when I was writing rules and scenarios for table top historical wargamers. For some reason WB does not have the same feel as 1.011 for the solo player, I am just glad and very grateful to talented guys (and gals?) like yourself and Jubal who are putting working into 1.011 mods for my enjoyment, you deserve all the support and praise that we piggy back gamers can give you.

Historical Accuracy ~  I am all in favour of a reasonably accurate historical staring point....historical timelines completely go out the minute your avatar starts to make an impact on the environment...so the historical bracket maintains a degree of disipline, however a large degree of poetic licence is needed to make the game play interesting without the need to constantly use cheats to move the action along or avoid unwanted events.

Future tweeks.  I am sure that I am not suggesting anything that has not been raised before but my  'like to have' list of cosmetic changes or playable enhancements would be.......I am sure some may not be viable and other are already in progress.....
~Walk through manor houses in your villages where you can station small numbers of troops and prisoners (mini castles), or the ability to 'dump' unwanted soldiers into the village.....historically most town and villages would have had several trained yeomen forming a small militia who the lord could call upon, armed and ready as part of his feudal levy.
~Re-activated chests/storage/stables in castles where equipment and horses can be stored for later use
           and for closer historical adherance
~The return of some plain colour surcoats and leather armour not linked to faction liveries, ie brown, black, white and grey, serching for suitable kit for your companions can sometimes be a trial as the game progresses particularly if your party is not linked to one of the set factions.
~The removal of the plate armour for some knights and the sword sisters.  I would be happy for the sword sisters to stay as there is quite a lot of historical evidence to suggest that women serving as men?-at-arms throughout the middle ages was far more common that Victorian based history would have the world believe. In fact most castles were managed and often commanded by the 'chatelaine' the wife, mistress, mother or sister of the fief holder when away on campaign, during the civil war of Stephen/Maud it is suggested that almost 75% of fortresses were held by women for their men.  Perhaps the plate could be simply replaced with heraldic surcoats with mail.  I would assume that most sword sisters will be serving as mercenaries so would probably wear either plain colours or their employers livery, matching his banner.
~Additional unallocated or editable banners and liveries and the abilitity to change your banner via the camp menu perhaps.  A knight who rises to become a Count or Duke will almost certainly enhance his coat of arms to reflect his new status particularly if it accompanies the creation of a new faction.
~For similar reasons, the ability to change or add a title to a companion's name as you can for the player avatar.
~Finally that old chestnut ...the Death Wish.   Realistically soldiers do get killed or permanently disabled in combat.  I can understand that gamers may wish their avatar to be immortal and it is sad to loose a companion as happens in many role playing games, however, is it viable to have a  low percentage  of enemy or friendly faction lords killed in battle, thus freeing up estates to be given as fiefs. Companions once killed can never be replaced so perhap a few might be seriously wounded from time to time causing them to leave the party and not be available to re-recruit for a suitable period.

Sorry that is one hell of a list and I must emphasise NOT demands only suggestion, the type of thing I would like to do if I had the skills.

My apologies for having a serious bout of verbal diahrrhea.  Please do not feel the need to politely reply to each point.

To all: Now guys I must say I am impressed. Seems 1.010/1.011 still has its fanatics and I'm glad for this.

I am especially happy my good friend phoenixguard09 still plays 1.010/1.011 m&b. Well on the other hand I am surprised he didn't knew that Silver Wolf  has his own life. Mate! SW is a necromancer! He can do anything dude!!!

Also, Lord Silver Wolf  , I am happy that you play with your favourite Croats and that you will make the religious hats needed for the mod.

Ker Raven: Welcome to Europe 1080 my good fellow! First of all I am truly and fully happy that you like the mod in general terms. Your ideas are clever and innovative and therefore must be looked upon with much interest by me and Jubal.

Quote
~Re-activated chests/storage/stables...
That's a good point and should be looked upon. Don't know about the stables [how possible is that and how will that be done] , but about the chests and also an ability to storage horses in a place I think it's a nice proposal.

Quote
~Walk through manor houses...
An other nice idea It will require new scripts and scenes, but I can make some villages have a taller and most ''defended'' house -the manor- which will have inside it some items worthy of a Lord / Noble...

Quote
~The return of some plain colour surcoats and leather armour not linked to faction liveries...
I was thinking of that myself the other day. Hopefully I will do some textures that will be ''Neutral'' ones an will be used by mercenaries, companions and minor Lords... or even by the player!

Quote
~The removal of the plate armour for some knights and the sword sisters...
Well. I once asked Jubal if I should remove the ''Great Helm'' from the game in favour of another new moddel. He replied negatively suggesting that this Helm is nice and that he likes it personally in-game. The same is how I feel about the plate armour. It might not be so historical, but all games can have one historical mistake. Maybe I will do my best so as it will be extremely RARE. I will remove it from the items availiable for sale so as it will re-appear in the shops in very rare occasions and will be availiable mostly on the vast battlefields of Europe. About the Sword Sisters, yep I was thinking of maybe introducing also -exept the peasant women and thefemale camp guards- another type of women warrior-recruits. The ''surcoat'' idea is a goo one since we can make those female warriors more Helraldric and suitable at the era.

Quote
...the ability to change or add a title to a companion's name as you can for the player avatar...
Well that is a nice idea especially if you want to have the full control of the game events. For example you can choose to marry Ymira or Alaina or Klethi and make them ie. ''Queen [name] '' . Also you can choose to make Marcus or Jubal a minor Knight, leader of a garisson or even Bishop Leon of Chalcedon an Arcbishop or a Catholic Cardinal ? or Bishop Vitalis an Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem or Alexandria...

Quote
~Finally that old chestnut ...the Death Wish...
Well let me have a negative stance on the last issue, for I prefer a game full of life. Maybe if many people think death mode should be included we must make a way for it to be activated-deactivated before the game and expand that even to the player himself...

- - -

Good points. Please post more and pm me your Windows live messenger [msn] adress so as we can spea more about the mod. Thanks a lot all of you people who bring life to this mod!

Dimos

I had a thought about chests/storage........perhaps an easy compromise would be a chest/table with a book perhaps called 'castle Inventory' which opens in the same way as the chest and could be used to keep the castle/town inventory of food, weapons and horses.  I don't know if this would work....just a suggestion.

Thank you for everything you do, your work allows us to play with passion! The only criticism that I wanted to make concerns the Sicilian faction, which at that time had as its capital the city of Melfi, but unfortunately does not exist in your map, as there is the city of Salerno, became the capital after Melfi. You could implement them in a future update, so make it even more realistic map and the game! Thanks for everything! Of course I'm available to more historical information, images and how to serve you.

P.s. sorry for my English

Your english are good and your proposal important for our work. The mod is currently mooving too slow since Jubal lacks the time to script for us. I have made some new scenes, and if you like I can show you a bit of them...

I will be happy if you like to share anything with us. From infos to ideas or criticism all are welcome, if done with love for the mod and passion for history and medieval adventures...

Thanks a lot, Dimos  :)

Like I said, this is the situation of the Kingdom of Sicily about 1080, with capital of Melfi. (http://cronologia.leonardo.it/umanita/slavi/im109d.jpg)
If you want to explore a little history and you can see here pictures of Melfi:

I'd like to see the new scenes that you made.

Hey Dimos, just wondering, if it were to help you get moving again, what exactly do you need worked on in Python? I'll see if I can fill in for Jubal in this regard. Admittedly whatever I do probably won't be as good but I might be able to fill in.

Sound good?

- Phoenixguard09: Can you talk to me in MSN ? I will tell you what I need, I'll also ask Jubal to send you the files. Thanks in advance my friend!  :)

- Mikes da Melfi: I'm gald you're supporting us, Mikes. Your request must be noted. The only problem I fin to that is that it gives a better feeling to have Naples as a Capital, like I did in Hungary, which should have had Esztergom as Capital since Budapest was 2 cities at the age, Buda in the East and Pest in the west. I must think of possibly re-working on both cities... I'll post some scenes as soon as I can. Thanks

Aaaah Dimos, I understand personal preference but I'd vote that you should at least add the city.

I've got to get some time free on the other computer but I'll see what I can do. I'm busy for pretty much all this week with a tennis coaching course but I'll try and figure something out.

Cheers,

glad this project isn't left to rotten... Thanks PG...  ;)

I simply tend for balancing reasons not to add so many towns in a place and few in another... Adding Melfi means the removal of Naples (at least as a city, which isn't so good IMO)
Title: Re: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Phoenixguard09 on December 13, 2011, 07:14:47 AM
Well Melfi was the capital. Perhaps Napoli should be just a castle? What does Mikes have to say on all this, seeing as he brought it up and is Sicilian?
Title: Re: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Mikes da Melfi on December 19, 2011, 03:11:51 AM
I agree with you Phoenixguard09, at that time was the capital of Melfi, then it would be more historically appropriate that Melfi was the city, and even Napoli castle, but if the home owner, the friendly Dimos, believes that Naples has more charm .... But Melfi Castle is at least!

A new scene for Edinburgh. I've also done a new one for Inverness castle and Edinburgh tavern. I think they need a bit of polishment, and that can take a while, but after that we can have a limited edition with the new scottish scenes.
In the above scene there is both a walled town and an un-walled port. Is it good?  :)
Title: Re: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Phoenixguard09 on January 12, 2012, 09:46:54 AM
Mate, I can only see Inverness, I think Edinburgh Tavern's not showing up.

It looks great but it does look a bit bright up there. Don't suppose you know if skyboxes are edit-able in 1.011 and if it's possible to have them differ in different places?

It might be a good idea to ask around (Jubal perhaps?) because then you could have it all dark and dingy in England/Scotland etc and nice and bright and sunny in Italy for example.

I dunno, just a suggestion but definitely looking good mate. ;)

Well that was supposed to be Edingburgh. I will show more pics soon. Inverness is depicted as something like a motte and bailey, a wooden tall palisade and a stone castle keep and some secodary houses made of wood or stone.

Here it's Inverness:

More pics from edingburgh are coming...
The previous that's showing Edingburgh shows just a small portion of the city.  ;)

PS: about the skyboxes, I am a texturer, I can make new ones, but trust me, if you see that city during winter, you'll understand it's not worth changing anything...  ;)

Nah, on the contrary Hamza, Europe 1080 has a working download and, to my knowledge at least, Dimos is still working on it. He's also basically the only one doing anything on Europe 1080, so that's commendable.

To Khan, Extended Factions and perhaps Sourthern Realms are really the only other M&B mods that see any activity on here, and, well, wonder why that is? :P

Title: Re: Europe 1080 mod - General Discussion
Post by: Phoenixguard09 on August 21, 2012, 08:09:33 AM
I can only think that it would be due to the sheer size of Dimos' map. It is a huge area and your computer suffers for it. The same thing happens on many other mods with uge maps and lots of factions, mine, Southern Realms and Europe 1200 for certain.

There's really not much you can do about it I'm afraid because of the M&B memory leak issue.

Hamza! Welcome! It lags due to the big map and due to some of Jubal's scripts... There are so many factions, so many parties that some computers tend to lag. I believe if he adds some limits to the parties in the map it will be nice.

About the muslim clothes, yeah, they should be done... But I'm not an expert at the moment... I will do it, anyway. I have done some new scenes around, but progress is very, very slow. I wish some more fixes would be done at the scripts, by Jubal, thus we can have a more complete version of the game.

Thanks, and have fun!  :D

Uploaded the version 0.27 to M&B Nexus right now. Have fun.

The new Version has some new scenes, nothing special, but it was important to upload it at the NEXUS.
