Mafias and RPGs / New Game

Alright I still have yet to actually attempt to run one of these, and after renewing up fond memories of the mafia game I totally owned lol, it's about time I do.

So who's in?

Valar Morghulis / New New Version
« on: March 29, 2018, 03:40:30 PM »
So a while back I made some upgrades to the mod. Have a go at it, if anyone even plays rtw anymore...

This new version includes a more active script...

- Alliances are forced between the Starks, Tullys, and Arryns. It will be annoying when one of them tries to besiege you every turn but that's just a fault of rtw that I can't fix.

- Westeros factions are forced to be neutral to the Knight's Watch, with one exception; if the Boltons become hostile with the Starks then they will not necessarily remain neutral with the Watch.

- White Walkers can't make peace with anyone.

- Dany gets some dothraki boiz if her faction conquers their homeland.

- The White Walkers can be destroyed by capturing their original settlement, and you should get warnings about their expansion, but you'll get a nasty surprise if you venture there.

- You'll get a notification every time someone captures King's Landing.

Also I've removed the modified traits/ancillary bits from before and this seems to have fixed some of the ctd's. Yes I know there are lots of references to 'Romans' and other bits from vanilla rtw but it's just too much to take it all out.

Star Trek / The Orville
« on: March 22, 2018, 07:56:00 PM »
With the disaster that is Star Trek: Discovery (seriously, the acronoym is STD :P) The Orville has become the honorary new star trek series for many trekkers/trekkies everywhere much like Galaxy Quest is considered part of star trek lore.

It's definitely set in a prime-style ST universe; the ships, lighting, uniforms, structure are very reminiscent of TNG, and it also presents a positive and hopeful outlook of the future. The stories are usually well laid out and thought-provoking, and sometimes scary, like the episode featuring a planet that operates on a Facebook style direct-democracy which judges your guilt/innocence. Also it includes some great comedic moments and more light-hearted characters.

All in all it's not perfect; sometimes the comedy timing is off, some of the stories are just rehashes of older ST episodes (at least for someone who has seen them all a few times like myself), but it is an enjoyable program has more of the elements fans of star trek wanted to see but didn't get with STD.

The Boozer / A phone sentence
« on: October 05, 2016, 02:29:08 AM »
Saw this thing on FB. If you have a smart phone or tablet hit the middle word 20 times and see what sentence it comes up with.

I got:

"I don't know what to do with a merc so i changed the way i had the goldcloaks set up."

That's something I might have said last winter while working on the GoT mod. ;D

"We need to talk."

The End

Mafias and RPGs / A mafia...

I'll run this thing in a few days regardless of how many sign up. Who's in?

So, following from the rocketry thread, I've been working on the scale model of the Jupiter-C. Near as I can tell I'm doing roughly a 1:34 scale.

Here are the main components already constructed; fins, engine mount, nose cone, and main body. I'm pretty happy with the nose cone. It's an unusual piece to say the least. I carved out the bottom of a wooden dowel rod and attached to it a rolled piece of cardboard, which I shaped by hand since I don't know the math (or have proper measuring tools). :P I made the motor mount to fit the third size motor, one just above the levels I usually mess with, but since this is a bit larger and heavier it might need the extra thrust. I can always make an adapter for smaller motors.

Here it is fitted together, fins not attached yet the one just sitting there for example. Just need to attach those and come up with something for the little Explorer 1 satellite that goes on the very top.

Then it's on to paint and decals...

Star Trek / Theme Songs

Which one is your favourite?

I know I had made a thread for this a long time ago but I can't seem to find it. But anyway I got back into this little hobby again since I haven't much else going on right now. Oh and I also watched October Sky again last night. One of my all-time favorite movies. If you haven't seen it what's wrong with you?

I can't believe how many rockets I've actually gone through over the many years that I was an enthusiast. Dozens and dozens I sent up never to be seen again. The idea is of course to recover them intact. :P

This is my current small collection. The Astra is the base model made by Quest Aerospace that I got quite a few years ago actually. It's been flown at least three times. The Alpha is Estes Rockets' base model, and competitor to the Astra, which is obvious by looking at them, but I think Estes has been around longer than Quest. I just recently got and built the Alpha, as part of my resurgence into the hobby, so it has not flown yet. The Gnome is a mini model from Estes that I should probably turn into an actual explosive missile since it's related to my previous relationship. :P

I've got some cardboard tubes lying around and I'm planning to make a scale model of the Jupiter-C rocket that took the first US satellite into orbit following the Vanguard rocket disaster.

So we'll see how that goes

I'll try to post updates of my observations here.

17 April 2016
I saw my first glimpse of the swarm this morning - one of the few times I'd seen a cicada still in its earthly shell. Normally I only see the empty shells after they have crawled a few feet up a tree and left the empty skin still grasping the bark, a small slit on its back where it had squeezed out from.

This specimen had just dragged itself out of its earthly home, where it had been buried for the last 17 years! I'll probably lose track of this guy as he crawls away (he's moving in super-slow-motion for now), but the swarm is just beginning.

Valar Morghulis / Full Release!
« on: April 09, 2016, 07:02:46 PM »

Westeros is in chaos; fissures spread across the landscape, between plain and mountain, field and forest. This land is being carved up like thin ice before it shatters. Cold sweeps down from the north, lord fights lord and brother fights brother. In Essos, thundering hooves and dragonfire threaten to rise up in the East, as the free cities squabble over profit and the chance to make the most of Westerosi misery. Stark, Tyrell, Lannister, Volantene, Dothraki, Wildling - everyone looks to themselves, even as greater threats loom in the dark night. This is a time of fear and rage, of battle unto destruction - a time of total war.

They have a saying in Braavos - Valar Dohaeris. All Men Must Serve. Such is the way of the world as we have long known it, And the saying has a reply, too... Valar Morghulis. All men must die.

We (Comrade General and Jubal Barca) can now proudly announce that Valar Morghulis: Total War, bringing George RR Martin's fantasy universe into the classic Rome Total War engine, has now been fully released! After just two months of intensive work from start to finish you can now experience in full the wars over the Iron Throne - and carve out your own path to ultimate victory.

Download it from ModDB now:

Thanks to everyone who helped and supported us - as ever, all rights to Game of Thrones, the soundtrack, etc are reserved to their respective owners and we make no claim to them. We'll still be working on tweaks and fixing, so do as usual let us know bug reports or post AARs on our forum. Please share this on social media/with your friends - the more people who get a chance to use this fan work, the better!

The gathering dusk falls over Westeros for another night. The rains weep over another battlefield, and the sky is a darkling grey. It has not turned cold - not yet. But it will do, no doubt. For all that the Dornish claim to be unbroken, for all that the Lannisters roar or the Arryns cling to their honour, there is one truth that lies below them all. The truth that the North remembers.

Winter is coming...
