I've seen this on Facebook as the 7/7 challenge - I was actually tagged and partaking was actually rather anxiety inducing.

You post the first 7 lines of a work in progress and tag 7 others to do the same. I figured I'd start a thread and then anyone can partake. :)

Here is what I posted - I have no idea where this piece is going to be honest - I might post some more excerpts of it in another thread (you know, the bits that I don't read back and cringe at myself :P)

‘Come now, you’re never too old for games.’
Lisette stared, unable to form words in her mouth.
He simply smirked, eyes menacing. Lisette dropped her gaze, took a deep breath, and forced her eyes to meet his once more.
‘Who are you? Wh-‘
His eyes seemed to flash and she felt her cheeks flush.
‘Oh Lisette, you know very well who I am.’

I thought I'd post this here in a new thread seeing as I really hope to do more covers in the future :)

I uploaded a cover of Life on Mars the other day (done in one take, so my voice does crack a few times and there's also the sound of a nightingale at the end of the second verse - I really liked that though so that definitely contributed to the single take. That and the fact it was 10pm. :P)

The picture is one of our wedding photos - it's my bridal bouquet. :)

Stories and AARs / Daughter of Coldharbour - Sigyn's Journal (Skyrim)
« on: July 30, 2016, 11:23:08 PM »
Sort of related to my 'Sigyn's Journal' thread, but not really (this isn't inspired directly by gameplay, if that makes sense. I'm also planning multiple posts/chapters.)
This post is pretty short because it's still more an idea than an actual piece of writing. Also have no idea if people even like the idea, so let me know :P

A biting wind stung our faces as we left the protection of Solitude's walls. It would not be a pleasant journey through the mountain passes north-west of the city, but I was determined to reach our destination.

It had taken a fair bit of persuading to convince Serana to return to her childhood home off the coast of Haafingar. The last time either of us had laid eyes on the looming, black castle was after an unpleasant and final encounter with her father, and I had known she wouldn't be too enthusiastic about setting foot there again.

After a lot of talk of a 'healing process', plus the reminder that her mother still frequented her quarters there from time to time, my companion had finally agreed. Truthfully, yes, I did think perhaps there was some healing to be done, but I had my own reasons for wanting to see the fortress again.

Serana knew – to some degree – of my fascination with the Daughters of Coldharbour, of that I was sure. Since being a child, I'd read every book I could find, spoken with every priest and priestess I knew, about the Divines, and, becoming older, studied the Daedra. But the Daughters... they were something different. Something I knew to be legend, but never thought... I knew it would be difficult to explain to Serana. I expected her to be nothing less than defensive each time I asked,  and I already supposed she knew my insistence to return to Volkihar had something to do with it. She seemed to be much more sympathetic and open to my curiousity now, at least.

We made West, past the statue of Meridia, picking up a road to an old fort that led towards Icewater Jetty. Serana was much quieter than usual.

'Are you alright?' I asked, slowing on the road and turning to her. She looked up, shook her head, as if she had been lost in thought.

'I'm just fine.' She smiled, and knowing what I'd really been asking, added, 'It's nothing but an empty shell there now. My father, his followers, they're gone.' She half laughed, and smirked a little. 'It's not as if we're really going for me is it?'

I looked down, biting my lip awkwardly. Serana took hold of my arm.

'Really, Si, I don't mind. I'll give you it's not exactly conventional research, but...' she sighed. 'I just – I don't want you getting hurt, or caught up in something...'
I couldn't help scowling a little.

'You may be several thousand years my senior, but there's no need to be patronising.' I retorted playfully. Serana grinned once again.

'Let's keep moving then. The sun... well, it's not great for my skin, if you know what I mean.'

Stories and AARs / The Mysterious Isle Dumont...
« on: July 26, 2016, 11:27:26 PM »
Something of a continuation of my Journal of Corora the Songstress ---> http://exilian.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4258.0

A novel-style telling of a Pathfinder campaign myself, Othko, Teejackbo and TheRealNemesis are playing, which is being DM'd by SotK.

The Adventurers

Eldor - an elven paladin
Miglond - a barbarian scribe from a human tribe
Fenris - an elven rogue
Corora - a half-elven bard from the village of Ave Lenora on a forest edge

This particular chapter is set in a private backroom of the local tavern in Wrackside - 'The Quacking Moon'. Wrackside is one of three towns on the island, and the most northerly. It is populated mostly by farmers and beachcombers.

Comments are appreciated :)

Love this show. It's lighthearted and the plot lines are really clever.

Anyone else watch this? :)

General Chatter - The Boozer / Bees; The Fuzzy, Buzzy, Scary Friend
« on: June 23, 2016, 12:45:33 PM »
I really want to like bees, but I've been scared of them for as long as I can remember. I think someone was stung when I was in playgroup/preschool and that's what started it.

There is also currently the most enormous bee in our bathroom at the moment and I can't get it out.  :-\

But I really, really want to like them. It's one of those situations where life would be easier if you could talk to them.

I want to re-record a song I wrote years ago (I originally played piano as accompaniment) and change it up a bit. :P

Thought people might be interested (maybe?) in seeing some of the wedding stationery we made for our special day. :)

This was our seating plan:

Lothlorien was the top table. :D

... I am in no way a particularly good seamstress, but I just finished a purse with a kit SotK's parents got me for my birthday, and I must say I'm pretty proud of it. :)
SotK's mum however is a fantastic seamstress, and helped me out, and also lent me her sewing machine (as I do have my own but haven't used it for quite some time and I'm not even sure I remember how) :P
I definitely plan to make more little things like this, and I'm pretty confident I could manage unsupervised next time :P

This is possibly my favourite hobby, I just can't pass up a good journal when I see one - especially narrow ruled ones!

I thought this thread could be a good place to share photos of lovely, pretty journals (for anyone else as enthusiastic as me :P )

I think this one is adorable - it was called 'The Owl at the Party' in Waterstones. :)

General Gaming - The Arcade / ARK: Survival Evolved, or PET DINOSAURS!
« on: February 21, 2016, 12:34:21 AM »
SotK, Teejackbo and I got this a while ago - last summer - (it was pretty new at that time) and at that time I found it difficult to play (there was a lot of lag, the mouse sensitivity seemed crazy because of it).
Since then though, patches have rectified that (in my experience) and we've just been getting back into it today. :)

Also, tamed pet dinosaurs, what more is there to want? :P

I love book stores, and thought I'd start a thread for particularly great ones people have visited and would recommend (because ALL bookshops are great :P).

I personally really love Waterstones Deansgate in Manchester (UK). If I'm in town and start feeling particularly anxious, I go there to browse and calm down. It's over 3 floors and has a cafe as well. (I notice quite a few Waterstones are adding Costa Coffee's/cafes actually).
The Waterstones in Chester City Centre (UK) is lovely as well. It's set into the rows and it's lovely inside.

Stories and AARs / Sigyn's Journal - A Skyrim Tale
« on: January 30, 2016, 11:35:43 PM »
So I finally got to writing an entry for this!

Sigyn is a Nord female, travelling with Serana, a Volkihar vampire as a companion.

I decided to just jump straight into it, rather than writing any sort of introduction. I was assuming people reading would be familiar with the Elder Scrolls universe. :)
