Rome - Total Realism / Removing the annoying default intros
« on: October 12, 2016, 06:16:48 AM »
Just found a tutorial that removes the annoying first two movies (logo and intro) without impacting on other video stuff.

Any objections if I add this to GIT?

The effect can be reverse\restricted by simply commenting out the lines.

The Thermopolium - Communication & Chat / Gig's stuff
« on: October 09, 2016, 07:08:44 AM »
I have been around the modding for a few years now - but rather exclusively at Total War Center where I am also an administrator.

My expertise is in mapping, scripting, coding and general bug hunting - all M2TW based. Hopefully this will not cause problems when applied to RTW. If you have a thread\posts where my input could help simply drop me a message (I figured out eventually how to get a pop up for new messages) and I 'll see what I can do.

I recently quoted myself a few times instead of editing because I didn't pay proper attention, resulting in some embarrassing double posting - and then had a closer look at the circumstances.

Looking at the two buttons closely together at the top right one notices the absence of a really distinctive difference, eg color and\or shape. Changing one of the icons would be helpful. Or removing the top edit icon altogether seeing that there is another one below the message field on the right.

Rome - Total Realism / Gig stuff downloads
« on: September 15, 2016, 12:21:19 PM »
Here is where you get the downloads of my stuff.

The result of the coastal smoothing and mountain rework can be downloaded here: Rome Total Realism - GigPatch 1

Gig Patch 1 - 15th September 2016
  •     Added mod version graphic at first menu screen - see data\menu\texures\modversion placement.txt for more details
  •     Removed (non fatal) formatting issues from descr_climates.txt
  •     Removed (non fatal) formatting issues from descr_regions.txt
  •     Removed (non fatal) formatting issues from descr_regions_cultures.txt
  •     Formatted descr_aerial_map_ground_types.txt for easier reading
  •     Modified heights values in descr_terrain.txt
  •     Implemented smooth coasts and exagerated mountain ranges
  •     Generated new map_roughness.tga file
  •     Provided zero byte map.rwm file to force generating of map after installation
  •     Added batch start file (RTR\RTR start.bat) for easy desk top short cut creation
Notes
  • The installation will automatically find your installation path if you have the RTW Gold Edition, for other versions it hasn't been tested and you may have to manually enter the install path by browsing to your Rome Total War main directory, NOT the RTR directory!
  • You will have a new desktop shortcut that is linked to a BAT file which will enable easy change of the parameters
  • A zero byte file is provided which forces the game to generate a new map from the updated map graphic files

Rome - Total Realism / Smooth as silk
« on: September 11, 2016, 05:34:54 PM »
A quick test if the smoothing works in RTW as well as in M2TW - some trip wires on the way, but eventually it worked.

Need to polish some jagged edges but the principle is fine.

Rome - Total Realism / Making mountains of molehills
« on: September 11, 2016, 02:37:00 PM »
I gave a quick spin to the Alps and would like a feed back if it is too extreme or if I should continue this way.

Background - the enlarged map widens the distance between points but the height stays the same, hence mountains look like dimples and some exaggeration is needed.
