...does anyone have any thoughts on this matter? It seems to be resurfacing in both the UK and US.

Mitt Romney has categorically stated that for him marriage is "between one man and one woman" whereas Obama has finally come down on the side of saying he believes it's important that LGBT couples should be allowed to marry. In the UK, it's becoming a tension between Liberals and Conservatives in the coalition government.

So, what are people's thoughts?

This will just be a pinned thread for rolling news chatter, like a discussion & debate form of the Booze Up. Just post and comment on any interesting news items you find out on the webs.

As a start, it looks like the economic crisis might be going to claim another government; if there's a list of rules for central European diplomacy, surely "Don't ignore the population of Prague" is very high up on it...

I've been wondering if we should look at undertaking a voice acting project, have everyone contribute a bunch of lines and do some kind of play or something. Maybe some Shakespeare would be cool? Any thoughts?

This was a concert I filmed and performed in at Brooke village hall in Norfolk. It was in aid of First Aid Africa, a charity that sends people out to train people in first aid, in Africa. As the name suggests. Track listings will appear & extend as I get more stuff up.

Narnia Total War / BUG REPORTS
« on: April 03, 2012, 10:47:12 AM »
Please report bugs here!

Obvious or previously reported stuff, DO NOT report this please:
- UI cards are all peasants, we haven't been able to make any yet
- The generals are more or less all the same, we haven't got general skins done, though expect a patch for them at some point.
- Ditto that map models aren't all done
- Faction symbols in campaign are still the vanilla ones

From the Beeb:

Email and web use 'to be monitored' under new laws

The government will be able to monitor the calls, emails, texts and website visits of everyone in the UK under new legislation set to be announced soon.

Internet firms will be required to give intelligence agency GCHQ access to communications on demand, in real time.

The Home Office says the move is key to tackling crime and terrorism, but civil liberties groups have criticised it.

Attempts by the last Labour government to take similar steps failed after huge opposition, including from the Tories.

A new law - which may be announced in the forthcoming Queen's Speech in May - would not allow GCHQ to access the content of emails, calls or messages without a warrant.

But it would enable intelligence officers to identify who an individual or group is in contact with, how often and for how long.

Fricken' hell. Again?!?

Okay, I have two stories in process, and I'm wondering which one I should work on.

Which of these premises etc takes your fancy?

1. Fire and Water
Designed as the first part of a trilogy, I started writing it about four years ago. The plot is epic fantasy in a classical style fantasy world, with Byzantine Greek, Iberian, and Saxon elements and themes, involves various machiavellian plots, an schism'd order of uberly powerful mages with powers linked to different elements, and so on. Currently sitting at about halfway written, fifty thousand words in. Will need quite a bit of rewriting of current sections, though the plot thus far is fairly fleshed out so that'll mostly be stylistic.

2. Guns, Swords, and Steam
A story to go with my RPG rules, centres around an army officer seconded to an early 18th Century version of MI5. It's in the GS&S world, with some steampunk and clockpunk elements, a few bits of gothic and high fantasy lobbed in in places as well. I've written about twenty of twenty-five short chapters and made a start on 21 to 23, but that would leave it quite short so more chapters and more padding would be needed to fill it out (it was written for A Call To Arms, so I'd basically have to pad it up from a snippety e-mag story to a more bulky work).

Thoughts? Questions?
