So I just decided to teach myself to play - it's a hellishly difficult game, is my main conclusion, though in fairness I'm also a hopeless chess player when faced with any decent opponent.

Does anyone else here play? :)

I've played quite a few times and lost the vast majority of them. The computer program I'm using only has quite a small board compared to normal Go which probably changes the dynamics rather...
