Zero She Flies Chords/Lyrics

(1/1)

Jubal:
Posting this here because I keep meaning to work out the chords to just about the one song I know from this band.

Watertight

Out here on the water wide
Am         C                     Am
(Row, my lady, row)
 Am         Em   Am
Shadows dance and strange birds fly
Am           C                                     Am
(Go, my lady go)
 Am         Em   Am
Cotton fields are growing high
C         Am            C          Am
(Row, my lady, row)
 Am         Em   Am
Hands reach up to touch the sky
Am            C                          Am
(Go, my lady go)
 Am         Em   Am

And your words will echo through the darkest night
Am            C              G                                       Am
Faith, love, oh please, won't you show me a guiding light
Am            C              G                                       Am
And even if I run I know that I am right
Am            C              G                                       Am
Keep me safe, keep me warm
             C                    G
Watertight
Am

Nb in the final trio, the chord for "safe" seems to work as either Am or C, but C seems nicer.Out here on the water wide

Cotton fields are growing high

Keep me warm
Watertight

Spin and swirl and breaking free
(Row, my lady, row)
Withypool won't wither me
(Go, my lady go)
Hang my woes from the hanging tree
(Row, my lady, row)
Mercy, love, and mercy me
(Go, my lady go)

And your words will echo through the darkest night
Faith, love, oh please, won't you show me a guiding light
And even if I run I know that I am right
Keep me safe
Keep me warm
Watertight

I'll also admit to not understanding the lyrics well, though it's a very pretty tune. Withypool seems to be a particular place in England though I don't know what relationship it has to the other elements of the song, and the combination of cotton and hangings makes me wonder whether I should be in southern England or the southern US. It's an odd one. But good nonetheless.

Glaurung:
The lyrics mystify me too - I would have said southern US, except for the mention of Withypool, which is a small village on Exmoor. The band are apparently from Bristol, not that far away, so it could be something personal. Aside from that, I like it, particularly the rhyme and rhythm in the verses.

Jubal:
Mm, yes, I guess in a moorland context cotton fields could be bog-cotton/hares' tail, not that it grows terribly high or in a particularly farmed way.
