The game has mechanics showing not just the farming side of peasant life but the importance of community and specialisations in shaping people's place in the medieval world. This includes elections to certain village roles, a representation of the legal status of your particular peasants, and the core struggle for subsistence food and enough surplus to pay your feudal rents.
