English through and through, with a very Lancashire influence on my Mother's side.

Don't you mean Scottish influence? ;) #insidejoke #nottwitter

Presumably therefore you must have some Spanish ancestry too, via Argentina?
Ye, probably, I never realy bothered with finding the origins but a bit of googling only found ppl with same surname that live in Argentina

I just found out my older sis did a bit of research on our last name and it turns out it's jewish with origins in Ukraine, Poland, Russia and Romania but most of jews with with that name migrated to Argentina and the states. Guess my family was left behind...

Anyone say Germany?

Yeah, I'm half-nazi *autoritarian*

Honestly, I haven't really figured out much about my heritage... I just know I'm 50% chilean and 50 % german :P I believe my last name comes from the Dusseldorf area though.

@Ash, being a neighbour from Argentinians, I can't recall ever hearing that name :P might be due to me not knowing many argentinians, but "kohon" doesn't sound very latin, to be honest :P

And all cute. :D

So how far do you guys think you have to be from your heritage to be considered something else? For instance, my grandparents on my mother's side were both born in Ireland but grew up in Australia. They consider themselves Australian, however my mother claims Irish descent as do I. Would you guys say that my children could in good conscience? How about grandchildren? How far could it go before it's just not worth it and the heritage is bred out of you?

As far as I know, if 1/4 of your bloodline belongs to an ethnic group you can make that your ethnicity. So if you have 4 grandparents from 4 different ethnic groups you can choose any of them. At least that's what I learned from sociology.

from sociology.

Or politics.

Dunno, that sounds like sociology to me, but I might be wrong.

Well for example, we'll put myself down and see what you think.

My grandparents on me mother's side were both born in Ireland but grew up in Australia. Their parents were all Irish except my grandfather's father who was English.

My grandmother on me father's side is half Irish, half Scot while me grandfather was half English, half Scot. Does that mean I can claim English and/or Scottish descent too? Or is that too far back to matter?

I hope you all realise that I'm only asking for the sake of conversation. Exilian's too quite these days. :(
