Batman isn't supposed to be a good guy. He was supposed to be an antihero. Different eras of Batman have him portrayed as different men. In the late 80s/90s he was very much a badass with no morals, kicking the hell out of bad guys and lawmen alike if they got in the way. I like that era simply because I think that's a better portrayal of him as a vigilante. The other kind of batman is much more sunday morning cartoon friendly with stun grenades instead of dislocating peoples jaw and breaking arms. Basically Alan Moore got hold of Batman for a while. Which he did, as it goes. (Alan Moore is V for Vendetta, Watchmen etc i.e. high violence, strong political themes).
