The Shaigel
« on: March 10, 2023, 05:44:34 PM »
The Shaigel is the north-easternmost part of the continent that includes the Heirophancy, Mav, Dulshan, and so on. It has few major river valleys, being largely a rugged, heavily forested coastal region with the dry steppe grasslands of the Wendings lying inland and the mountains of Tullactara to the south.

The Shaigelta, the people of the region, are dwarfs, somewhat tall by dwarf standard, lean of build and stereotypically with flat, pale faces and dark hair which they wear in ponytails. They build mostly in timber, which is plentiful, though their monuments are stone, mostly large circular flat-topped tombs built around rocks out at sea. The sea-storms of the region are one of the things preventing the development of larger settlements: there is little good farmland, and ships cannot easily traverse the coasts to buy the lumber, pelts or minerals that the Shaigelta might otherwise produce. Traders from Tullactara do nonetheless come for those things, especially rarer furs and amber both of which are plentiful in the area.

While the Shaigel lacks many of the features that would make it a perfect environment for humans or dwarfs, its wild creatures and fey spirits have some renown. Huge fish and dolphins hunt along the coast, as do dragons, and both deer and bears or gryphons that prey on them are common in the forests.
